  1. He has cleverly found a way to get his message out without filtering it through the commie media. If tweets are what it takes, then tweets it is! Televised press conferences are another of the very effective ways to get the real news out and Trump has shown that he is very adept at "forcing" his achievements out to the public. The guy was masterful in the way he man-handled the press. It is about time someone stood up to these socialists and showed the world that the mainstream media has been taken over by enemies of the country and our way of life.
  2. You know, I've got a good memory, but its just a little bit short, but I remember somebody on this site that posted a couple of great videos of a canoe camping trip up to the Adirondacks. The videos and the trips were absolutely fantastic and quite detailed. But I can't recall that he ever posted anything else, so I don't remember the name. If somebody can remember who it was, he would have a lot to add to this thread.
  3. It appears that Upstate Redneck didn't take too long establishing another membership identity.
  4. Oh come-on guys. I love the guy. He comes here and makes an ass out of himself for our amusement......who can't love the guy? Look at all the many hours he spends here entertaining us, providing a real live target for abuse and ridicule.....lol. I love his commie views. He displays, in a way that no one else really could, exactly the fools that libs are and their twisted versions of what passes for "thinking". He's like a walking advertisement for Conservatism. He and others like him, along with his rioting comrades, are the reason that Trumps approval numbers are rising. Every word and action by these people serve as perfect examples to the majorities just what this country needs to guard against. We shouldn't discourage them. You can't have a return to greatness in this country without the wackos from the left supporting the effort through their words and deeds, serving as examples of what has been breaking this country for decades. Feed the troll and keep him around and on display. He really does serve a useful purpose.
  5. You didn't think that the safe act was the end of it did you. The fact that the safe act was passed and has resisted all gun-owner efforts to erase it, and the fact that Andy got re-elected, has simply emboldened the anti-gun nuts all the more. I'm sorry folks, but that safe act exposed just how weak the gun lobby really is. There will be bills like these coming out of the woodwork now.
  6. Hey, maybe you could leave the book stores alone for those that actually read. Look for some hole in the wall where you can hangout with your own kind and enjoy your drugs before you head out to one of your burning and looting sprees. You could all stand around a burning barrel with the other comrades and fantasize blowing up the Whitehouse.
  7. Just don't wait too many years to do it. You might all of a sudden find that time can wipe out your ability to handle adverse camping conditions. I worked in quite a few of these kinds of back-pack trips, but I will say that I can't really do it now......lol. But the memories of some of those trips are priceless.
  8. I know whenever I find or see something peculiar, I often theorize with the big "why" question, and often guess what circumstances might be behind it. I know there are a lot of things that are reported on the news that make me wonder just why a sane person would ever do them, or internally attempt to fill in the blanks even though I know I'll never know the details for a fact. Whether we want to admit it or not, I think to one extent or another we all do that.
  9. That must be quite a camera/lens system that you have there. The pictures are top-rate.
  10. Ha-ha-ha .... I suppose today I would probably be arrested for child abuse, but I actually made my kids earn their allowance. I know that's a barbaric thing to do, But they actually had livestock to water and feed, manure to remove, rocks to pick, limbs and branches that needed to be stacked and burned every year. And yes, occasionally we all would have to get on the business end of a shovel and clear out our 1000' driveway. Of course I was raised under the same philosophy..... If you are given a buck, you earn it. Allowance was a sum of money that you were rewarded with for doing your chores and other things around the house. That training and work ethic set me up for a prosperous adult life. That's also probably why I didn't vote for Hillary ....lol. But anyway, a parent letting their kid(s) flop on the couch while good money is paid out for shoveling snow is also teaching their kids lessons for adulthood. Every time I see these wandering shreds of human debris at these protests I know that that lesson of a "free lunch" turned into a lifestyle.
  11. My very first deer hunt was with a high school buddy. We hauled a bunch of stuff up the hill (approximately 3/4 of a mile) and built a lean-to out of poles, branches, and leaves and spent three days and nights up there, eating a squirrel here and there along with our other food supplies, and just generally roughing it. By the way squirrel cooked over an open fire on a stick looks like a lot better idea than it actually turns out to be. Nothing wrong with the taste of the squirrell, but when it was done, it was a pretty tough decision as to whether to eat it or make a pair of shoes out of it. No deer, but we had a lot of fun. We did manage to stay warm even though we got about 6" of snow right off the bat. 4 of us guys from work went on a do-it-yourself moose hunt with tents. We had two canoes and a 8' aluminum boat with a 7.5 Eska motor. We drove up to Shining tree to Three Bears Camp, and rented a cabin (Canadian law required the us of an outfitter). In the morning, we took dirt roads (only a little better than log roads) for 40 miles. Off-loaded the boat and canoes and supplies. Got into a large lake...went to the other end of that....portaged 150 yards.... into another lake and went to the swampy end of that lake. By the time we were done, there wasn't even the sound of an airplane. We did get a moose on that trip. It was great! No down-sides, just fun. Of course we spent the whole year planning it and driving everyone at work crazy with practicing moose calling.
  12. So really, the story is not whether you can bring it to vote, or even if you can somehow get it passed. The fact is that you have to have enough overwhelming support that you can over-ride the governor's veto. I hate to discourage anyone from trying, but the time for fighting The Safe-Act was before it got passed (in the dead of the night). We even got a second chance at it all through the general election for Governor and that didn't work so well for us either.
  13. My cell-phone is for outgoing calls only and those are restricted to emergencies only. The only reason I have it is in case I plop over on the hill and need to tell somebody about it (if I can). My wife makes me carry it. It never gets used. It is one of those pre-paid "not-so-smart" phones. Nobody has the number and it is never turned on, so I can't be harassed by the darned thing.
  14. Do not confuse discussion for whining. It's not the same thing. But I will admit that everyone, well almost everyone, does have an opinion and a willingness to discuss it. I get a bit frustrated listening to it all, but in the end, I'm damned glad that hunters still have enough passion over the sport that they are willing to offer those opinions. I think that there are signs that more and more hunters are losing that passion and the hunter numbers and activity seems to be bearing that out. So go ahead people, whine away. It shows that you still care.
  15. I am at the age where if I stop moving ..... I will "stop moving". Yeah it's a struggle, but I'm still a cheap bast*$d, and refuse to pay someone for something I can still do myself. That includes digging and chopping out about a dozen stumps last year, and hand clearing a new huge area of yard and burning up 10 huge brush piles. I'm a mean critter on the end of an axe or brush-hook ..... lol. But anyway, the message is that if you like spending time on the right side of the grass, physical activity is where it's at. People can cheat and avoid all the activity they want, but it won't be too many years before their activity level will no longer be optional for them. Use it or lose it! I've seen it too many times.
  16. Ha-ha-ha ..... for the most part, the auto went where you pointed it. It did not cause you to lose your mind and drift over into other lanes of traffic, or drive off the road because you weren't able to walk and chew gum at the same time. The auto was a basic machine of transportation, and not a narcotic to recede and escape into as these cell phones have become. Comparing phones to cars is not what I would call a very good analogy. Sure, there may come a day when phones become something more than the current drug of choice, and there certainly are things about phones and their use that have done everything from streamlining business to actually saving lives. But just like the auto, the ability to be misused has changed their value in a whole lot of ways that definitely can be not so wonderful in a lot of cases.
  17. Speaking of raving POS's.......... look who's back from the riots ....... lol.
  18. Fart jokes people ......... You just can't beat a good fart joke.
  19. I have no complaints about technology, I simply do not take its worship to the level of theology as many do. When I see that guy drifting across the yellow line because he can't handle texting and driving at the same time, I am all of a sudden not that big of a fan. When I'm in a movie theater trying to watch the screen with a bunch of phone screens going on and off like Christmas tree lights, I do get a bit irritated with these people who can't draw a breath without telling someone about it. When my financial dealings and information, and indeed, even my own identity are at risk, I start to view technology with a more than a little suspicion. When I buy a new computer and find out that a dozen expensive pieces of software that I have been regularly using are now unusable because of a new operating system, I begin wondering if this isn't a planned-in cost of technology to separate me from as much of my money as possible. We all complain about growing taxes, but never seem to recognize the deeper dip into our pockets that corporations are taking in the name of progressing technology. When we see technology aiding in job exports because accrued experience and knowledge are being made worthless by ones and zeros it does make one wonder just what is the real cost of technology. I know that I am speaking heresy to the worshippers of technology, but at some point it is interesting to stand up and get a better look at the social and financial cost of some of this craziness that is being blindly accepted simply in the name of technology. Take the good of it all, but understand there is always another side to all of this stuff whether we want to see it or not.
  20. That is one thing that hastened my retirement. I have no problem with working diligently during my regular working hours. Even worked way more than my share of overtime over the years (a lot of it unpaid). But when they started trying to wire me up around the clock (even at home), my corporate loyalty took a huge hit and I just flat out refused. That little glimpse into the future convinced me that it was time to get my retirement in process.
  21. Antlers do funny things to people. They simply go berserk and do things that they clearly know are wrong. The guy probably has it hanging on the wall along with a first rate story of how he skillfully hunted and shot it. The guy had your phone number. It was just simple greed and dishonesty that made him take it. But when ever I hear these kinds of stories, I start wondering what the heck was that guy thinking of. I am a bit curious about the initial set-up. You said he climbed a tree 50 yards away. You didn't mention him installing a treestand. Does that mean that he already had a stand in the tree. Perhaps that was working on his mind a bit. He's running late (probably after work) and figured he'd spend the last half hour there (no time to go anywhere else). And then he finds you already there set up practically on top of his stand. Now all of a sudden, in his mind, he's the victim and somebody has knowingly moved in on him. Ha-ha.... from that point on he is getting himself all worked up into a lather about how he was wronged, and how you intentionally cut the deer off before he could even get a chance. That scenario would never put him in the right for taking someone else's deer, but you can see how a guy might work himself into a frenzy and start justifying all kinds of bad decisions.

    Deer sign

That is what makes current scouting essential. I think that a lot of people think that deer set up their patterns, and it never changes. And so their hunting is based on what they have been doing for years. There are all kinds of changes from one year to the next (sometimes from one week or day to the next). Even from one season to the next, feeding and bedding patterns change. That is one reason that I don't put a whole lot of stock in post season scouting. It is only useful in assessing how the herd made it through the hunting season, but certainly the feeding locations and content, and the bedding cover are totally different from what will meet you when bow season begins in the fall. I think some of these changes are a result from more varieties of human activity than what used to be. The woods never gets a rest period. The hikers and bikers have filled in the summer months with constant pressure even through the summer months. The hunting pressure has backed off considerably and hunting patterns are certainly much different, but the invasion of the "health & fitness crew" has its impacts on deer patterns that add one more variable into the mix that never existed years ago.
  23. About the silliest thing I've ever seen is two or three people sitting on the same couch texting each other. It kind of displays how people have to relate to each other now. They need that intermediate technical device now just to converse. It is a celebration of the weak wills of the humans and the total susceptibility to the god of marketing. This whole thing is a brilliantly conjured up marketing campaign to brainwash people into thinking that they really need these things. And then they have a rolling plan of obsolescence that keeps the public thinking that they need the latest one and that the one that they just spent a fortune on is complete trash because it's not the latest and the greatest ......... BRILLIANT!
  24. Really ..... Who cares? He's a big boy, and knew how politics works when he decided to straighten out the mess that the libs have made of this country. Now, do you really think that this will do irreparable damage to his fortune or his ability in the future to make whatever amount of money that he wants? You really are not that stupid are you? You pinkos are really are in a frantic, desperate, state of mind, aren't you? It is truly getting comical to watch how you are grabbing on to any little straw of hope. Look, the guy has built and lost and rebuilt again more empires than you pathetic commies will ever even dream of, so don't be wasting any time pinning your hopes on this kind of nonsense. Seriously, try a little bit not to make such a jerk of yourself. Pull yourself together. Compose yourself and try to act like a man. You're embarrassing yourself.
  25. So maybe it's true that you are safer in the woods deer hunting than you are driving to your hunting spot. Honestly, there are so many jerks on the road today that I really do feel uneasy every time I get out there. People are doing everything but paying attention to their driving. Today you have to go from defensive driving to mind-reading. So what's the verdict on the car? Can they glue it back together or is it totaled?
