Be sure to keep in mind what a killer a pair waders can be if you get swept off your feet. Don't take any chances.

Card pull - silly young deer having fun?
Doc replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I have watched young deer doing that. And it is usually is in the spring. I think its some version of spring fever. They just run around all squirrelly and goofy, just feeling good. Sometimes I feel like doing that......... but I can't anymore ....lol. -
Ha.......That doesn't look like a place where he will find any fish to eat. However, we once had a rookery way up on top of our hill that is about a mile from any swamp or other body of water. They had about 6 or 7 nests way up in the tree-tops.

I'm locked in for the day. The house, front yard, and out-buildings are all high and dry. But ....there is a huge lake across the driveway and through the thicket up front, with water about 700 feet up the driveway. I was hoping that I might get away without a flood this year. It is a huge inconvenience, but not a disaster or anything. The swamp on the other side of the road comes up very slowly and then eventually (Within a day or so) goes back down .... very slowly. No real current to do any damage. Apparently we wound up getting a heck of a lot of rain.

I was screwed up by a super dense fog up on our hill once. I was at the very top of the hill and was started down the wrong side when I finally saw enough landmarks that told me I was going the wrong way. That could have turned out ugly with maybe an unplanned night out in the woods. Who would have thought I would ever need a compass in an area I have hunted all my life?

A full beard and mustache has always served to remove the white glare of my face. Unfortunately, as age progresses, my facial hair has become more white than the face I was trying to cover up.....lol. However, when bowhunting, I really don't want anything dangling from my face since it occasionally interferes with my anchor and the bowstring ripping away from my face.

Yup, it's howling like crazy out there right now. Doesn't it seem like this year has been almost constant high winds. I spend all my time cleaning up branches off the lawns, and I'm getting a bit tired of it.

I think a lot of these guys that won't shoot does simply don't like venison. They don't want to go through all the mess and effort just to harvest meat that they don't even like the taste of. They become "head hunters" for big racks.
-
Yes, it could have been coyotes, but I suspect it was dogs. I've seen it before. This deer was a bit slow to get up. After I shot it and walked up to it, the reason was obvious. What a nasty way to go. One chunk of meat at a time until you finally go down. There was another incident in our front yard one night where two dogs had a severely munched up a deer on the verge of going down until I intervened with my shotgun. I have no idea whether that one survived or not, but the next morning I found blood everywhere. And of course, I have related on here before our experiences of dogs getting into our sheep. We were driven out of the sheep business by dogs, So while people may say "Oh well, dogs will be dogs", and start feeling sorry for the dogs, I have developed a lot different view of wandering uncontrolled dogs.

Ha-ha-ha...... We think we're so clever and sneaky. But as you can see, we really are not fooling any of the critters out there. They know all about us and our cameras.

Those gurgles I understand and they serve as an early warning device to alert anyone in the vicinity to run for their lives ...... it's going to blow! And a deadly secret weapon of mass destruction is about to wipe out all population in the immediate area. Yes, Dunkin Donuts coffee is the fuel.

So, can lyme disease be contracted from any tick or ked, or is there a specific kind of tick that carries the disease. I heard that the tick responsible for contracting lyme disease was a tiny little critter that is a bit tricky to see easily. I don't remember where I heard that so I am not sure how credible that is. Anyone hear anything like that? My son was telling me that the tick situation around the Naples area was crazy this year.
-
Thanks for all the replies. I figured that it was a trapped air problem, but got a little concerned because the gurgling noises started just before the crap eruption in the basement that started all the septic nonsense. But I guess I am coming to the conclusion that the two things are not related. The gurgling noises seem to be getting more and more intermittent, so I am doing a wait and see thing right now. The noise doesn't really bother anything as long as it is not a sign of other ugly things getting ready to happen.

So what does it mean when you hear a loud gurgling sound coming from the bath tub drain whenever large amounts of water are put into the system? ....toilet flushes, dishwasher empties, etc.

I still think a free-ride on the public dole is probably a great way to have our college quality begin to resemble the same failures that our public high schools are afflicted with. People taking advantage of the system as just another freebie to be used and abused (for as long as they can play it). It is likely just another recruitment effort for filling the pipeline with a new gang of full-time protesters and hell-raisers for whatever pinko Cuomo-cause that comes along.

The internet is full of tomato pie recipes. The pictures all look completely different. Some of them use ripe tomatoes, some use green tomatoes. Some really do look like pizza other ones look like a regular piece of pie. Apparently tomato pies are not as rare as I thought. I never even heard of such a thing until you mentioned it. Every section of the country seems to have their own version. But I've got to say that the whole idea kind of squicks me out a little. But then I'm not a real big fan of tomatoes in anything.

43 years without pumping. That won't happen again. I learned my lesson. And the real good news is that I know where the damned thing is ..... lol.

I see a comparison to some of the public high school problems. Now NYS colleges will be filled with misfits and partyers taking advantage of college life because they have no "skin" in the game. Goof-offs, and disrupters, and much, much worse will fill the classrooms because it allows a couple of more years of free playtime before they actually have to go out and get a job. But what the heck, we can just lower the standards so all these free-loaders can get a degree. Wonderful .....eh?

All Better now!! Tank is pumped, and water is going where it is supposed to now. Had to snake out the line to the house to break through & with the help of a plunger, the blockage broke loose. Life is good again!

Growie- Listen to Mr. B !!! The brunch is sounding so much better all the time.....lol. No, seriously.....I have never heard of a tomato pie. I can't imagine what could be done to tomatoes to make them taste good in a pie. But if you ever come across a recipe, be sure to post it. It would be interesting to see what it looks like.

Thanks for all the ideas. But we found it yesterday. I had a guy come out with a special probe thingy that was about 3' long, 1/2" in diameter, pointed on the end, and had a wooden tee-handle. He started pushing this thing into the ground and found the tank in about 15 minutes. Today they are coming in to pump it out (first time since the installation 43 years ago). That is no guarantee that all will be fixed, and life will go back to normal .... lol. That still does not mean that we have found the problem, but the tank had to be found and pumped anyway. Now we will see where we go from there to locate the blockage. The tank was not full, so I suspect there is a blockage some where toward the house. I have no idea why they don't cast a big steel ring in the lid for the tank cleanout. I would have easily found it with my metal detector, and a ring in the lid would assist with pulling the lid. Back in '74, we had a pretty crude zoning set-up, and things were fairly slip-shod in terms of records-keeping. So there was no records of the tank location. The builder has been long out of business, so no help there. But anyway, we've got it found now, and thanks to everyone for the advice.
-
It appears from the crap overflowing the downstairs toilet that there is a major septic tank failure. The trick is that I have no idea where the tank is. It would appear that the tank is not steel, but rather concrete or fiberglass, so a metal detector is of no use. I checked the town hall for a plot plan that might show the location from when we had the house built, but there is none on file. So what's the secret. How do you go about finding one of these things without digging up the whole yard?

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
Doc replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
There was another shooting phenomenon who recently passed by name of Stacy Groscup. He did the aspirin shooting thin too, and lifesavers. He used both longbow and compound claiming that instinctive shooting was harder with a compound because of the change in the draw cycle. He was also phenomenal with a tomahawk and a blowgun. He was shooting prone on his belly, and on his back. Just about any un-natural way that you could shoot a bow, he did it. Quite a few years ago, I saw his show in the now defunct Creekside Gun Shop. Pretty spectacular! -

It seems to me that Trump is in a no win situation. He talks about the whimpering do nothing Obama who basically turned the US into a friggin laughing stock around the world with his cowering failure to react to outright challenges (and that was all true) but then he gets criticized for establishing the US as someone not to mess with. Some people apparently defined his America First policy as meaning that he intended to withdraw from the entire international scene and continue Obama's policy of sitting in some dark corner sucking our thumbs and maintaining a posture of irrelevance and cowardice. Well, I guess they got it wrong......thankfully. This gas attack was just a test to see what Trump was made of. I think he passed the test. -
Yeah, the peepers are screeching up a storm. I have heard they have to be frozen three times before winter weather is finally done. Well, I haven't been counting this year. But between them and the warmer days, I have been engaged in the first signs of spring around our place. That is raking all the stones and gravel off the edges of the grass where the snowplow left them. Wish I could afford 1000' of macadam driveway.
