Drain The Swamp Dems not voting
Doc replied to Huntscreek's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I think uptown redneck is over on the left coast breaking windows at Berkley so he sent in the second string to handle the troll work here.....lol. -
Looks like another ash bit the dust. That borer is getting them all. By the way, I was reading about some other critter that is coming through doing in oaks. Imagine that impact on wildlife. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/12/31/oak-tree-fungus-disease/

They used to say the rated distances were "over water"

Ha-ha ..... we always get the bad along with the good. I remember a hunt up behind the house when I was messing around a bit too close to our ravine during an ice storm, and went down on my but and began to slide toward the edge that was a straight down drop to the bottom of the falls (all rock and shale) vertical walls. I was fortunate in that there was a small sapling that I grabbed onto before I got to the edge. Eventually, I was able to get back up onto flat ground. Don't ask me what I was doing hunting that close to the edge. It was just a case of being young and stupid with that dumb invincible feeling of indestructibility. But I too learned the hard way about ice in a slightly different way. My childhood playground....lol

All the grass in my lawn is natural from simply mowing. I can't tell you what the particular variety is, but I can say that after a few seasons of mowing what used to be a wheat filed back when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper. The wild grasses, and goldenrod gradually gave way to a very hearty grass, and all broadleafs died out with the continual weekly mowing. Over the years, I have seeded the more stubborn areas with whatever cheap, cheap, grass seed that I could find on sale (price so low it was damned near free). No fertilizer, no supplements at all except for hand broadcasted cheap seed. Driving around the suburbs, I see a lot more lush lawns with a more even color and thickness, but I really do like the cost of my lawn, and it really looks quite managed. So areas outside your main lawn, you may want to think about just mowing it until it turns into all grass. But you will have to invest in a rider, even if it is used.

That's what it is really all about isn't it? ......The planning and scouting and scheming, and in the end the final ending to the challenge .... the kill and the satisfaction of having out-smarted the critter in his own element. I can see how that hunt would stand out in your mind as a favorite.

Your anchor does look a lot more forward than it should be. The trick is to find an anchor that is solid and very repeatable. I draw back until my index finger touches my "eye-tooth" I think that's what they call it. It is the tooth that would be a canine tooth, That anchor has me pulling back on the corner of my lips just a bit. It gets good back tension, arm position, alignment and is super-consistent.

I'll never really understand computers, but the problem was apparently self-healing. My guess is that there may have been an ad that wasn't playing well with my computer and perhaps it has since been removed, since ads are the only things that are transient here on this site. But anyway, mysteriously, the problem has disappeared. Thanks for all the suggestions.

My own personal opinion is that I would continue looking for a treed lot, but that is just my own personal preferences. I often see these great houses stuck in the middle of a barren farm field with all kinds of expensive little whips for trees that the homeowner will never get to see all grown up into shade trees. Are there other reasons why you are choosing such a barren lot? You asked about erosion control. Is the lot sloped a lot so that you have to worry about such things?

I'm waiting for ol' Punxsutawney Phil to sunk those incisors into that guys hand......lol. He has to be a bit irritated getting yanked out in the middle of winter and being wrestled around in front of all those people and cameras.

I have been simply driving over a lot of the snow that we have had this year. It seems that every so many days we get enough of a warm spell to melt it away without any plowing. So far this year I have only had to plow 2 or 3 times. I suspect that this time we may be in for a more extended stay of the snow, and my luck may have finally run out ...... We'll see how it goes.

Trump Gets My Respect
Doc replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The guy is just one surprise after another. It took the entire Republican primary campaign for me to become a believer. I started out thinking he was just in it for the jollies of something to do as a diversion. Boy! that was a big miscalculation. When I saw how he functions and the seriousness of his intentions, I became an instant fan. And every day since he has come up with astounding levels of energy, dedication, and creative abilities to finally think outside the box with unique solutions to problems that I previously thought were insurmountable. So this event of thoughtfulness does not come as a surprise. President Trump is a patriot. That is no longer a surprise. -
My first thought was a bear. However, I could just as easily believe it to be a close-up raccoon.

Any body see Chuckie Schumer sniveling and whimpering when talking about the Trump "terrorist import suspension and special vetting declaration"? Man, give that guy an Oscar. These pinko libs are getting so desperate that they are now pulling out the teary act. Frickin' fakes! We got "fake news" , and now "fake Schumer". No limit to the drama and theatrics.

Yes, looking at the picture I would say that they fit the definition of being barbed. So that would make them illegal in NYS. That's too bad because that buck apiece cost is very attractive. I am not a big fan of serrated blades, and while I have had great flight characteristics on 2 blade designs (for some unexplained reason), I do have to believe that a third or fourth blade would leave a wound channel that would resist closure or fat-blocking.

Ok..... It's been about an hour of normal response time, and now the site has gone to it's knees again. That doesn't make any sense. It's like something is kicking in after some time passes.

So Called "Protesters" Are Clueless
Doc replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
They are Rent-A-Protester types that have no real allegiance to any ideals. For them it is an invitation to a free-for-all (literally). But, what they do in excellent fashion is to denigrate the causes of liberalism. They are closing the lid on their own coffin. And the excellent performance of Trump is driving the nails into that coffin. Let these wandering shreds of human debris do what they do best. Let them show the world what the left has been reduced to. -
So, are we now saying that there is something about divorce that makes a person unqualified for the presidency? Apparently the left has run out of substantive arguments. I haven't really heard an argument against this president that has anything to do with how he is handling the job. The criticisms have all been about his hair and now the fact that he has been divorced. And then there is the new favorite that his inauguration crowd was smaller, and that he has the audacity to believe that voter fraud exists. The left has completely lost their minds because they have no real issues with this guy other than that they simply don't like him because he ran as a Republican. It's funny to watch, but really quite sad at the same time.

It is very weird. Now this morning (right at this moment) there is no problem. I don't have any problems with any other site, so I conclude that it is site-specific. Perhaps a particular ad or something that I not playing well with something uniquely in my computer. Although everything is moving right along right now, I suspect that before too long it will start the semi-freezing again. I have had some success by logging out and then back in again. If it were happening with any other site, I would start suspecting a "clean-up" problem, but that isn't the case. I can say that when it starts (And I expect it any minute now) it is maddeningly frustrating. And then with it being an intermittent problem, I cannot even guarantee that I can always make it happen to show somebody. I will try some of the hard-drive cleaners that I've got and see what happens. Other than that I guess I will limp along as best as I can.

For the past week or two, there is something real ugly happening on this site that keeps making it intermittently freeze up between each page. It is something that only happens on this site, so there must be something here that my computer doesn't like. I am quite patient, but today it is happening so bad that I can't deal with it anymore. It's too bad because I love this forum, but it looks like perhaps I am going to have to give up. I have enjoyed all the great topics and conversation and the great people here, but unfortunately I cannot handle the frustration.

Trump lacks etiquette
Doc replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
That's what I like about the Dems. They always focus on the big stuff....lol. Now here was the perfect husband who is a model of ettiquette: -
The only protesting and resistance that counts is that which occurred during the election. It all settled out with Trump being President and the Obama/Clinton agenda piled on the scrap-heap where it should have been long ago. Yes there is some amusement factor supplied with watching you losers melting down and whining and crying, but maybe it's time you took a second look at just how stupid and ridiculous you people look and sound. I'll tell you that the rest of the world is taking note of your actions, and you are simply burying whatever gains you commies have made over the decades. And all I can say to you is, "good riddance". You are doing a heck of a swell job.
-
It appears that the success of an administration will be proven to be inversely proportional to the size of the inauguration crowd. But you still don't understand that crowd size doesn't really matter any more. All your childish irrelevant sniping is all just the worthless sound of losers. Perhaps you didn't notice, but the man was sworn in and is already at work undoing the mess he was left with (and none too soon, I might add). So dry your tears little one, stop sniveling, put your thumb back in your mouth and softly cry yourself back to sleep.

Yeah, the day I can put 5 bullets all intersecting the same hole at a couple hundred yards from the bench, I will likely find it getting a little boring. I know it can be done ...... just not by me. But if that ever happened to me, I would likely tack on another 100 yards and start all over again.....ha-ha-ha. As far as dragging the bench a bench around the woods with me ...... well, I kind of solved that problem. That solved all the hurried shots too.
