  1. Ha-ha-ha...... We think we're so clever and sneaky. But as you can see, we really are not fooling any of the critters out there. They know all about us and our cameras.
  2. Those gurgles I understand and they serve as an early warning device to alert anyone in the vicinity to run for their lives ...... it's going to blow! And a deadly secret weapon of mass destruction is about to wipe out all population in the immediate area. Yes, Dunkin Donuts coffee is the fuel.
  3. So, can lyme disease be contracted from any tick or ked, or is there a specific kind of tick that carries the disease. I heard that the tick responsible for contracting lyme disease was a tiny little critter that is a bit tricky to see easily. I don't remember where I heard that so I am not sure how credible that is. Anyone hear anything like that? My son was telling me that the tick situation around the Naples area was crazy this year.
  4. Thanks for all the replies. I figured that it was a trapped air problem, but got a little concerned because the gurgling noises started just before the crap eruption in the basement that started all the septic nonsense. But I guess I am coming to the conclusion that the two things are not related. The gurgling noises seem to be getting more and more intermittent, so I am doing a wait and see thing right now. The noise doesn't really bother anything as long as it is not a sign of other ugly things getting ready to happen.
  5. So what does it mean when you hear a loud gurgling sound coming from the bath tub drain whenever large amounts of water are put into the system? ....toilet flushes, dishwasher empties, etc.
  6. I still think a free-ride on the public dole is probably a great way to have our college quality begin to resemble the same failures that our public high schools are afflicted with. People taking advantage of the system as just another freebie to be used and abused (for as long as they can play it). It is likely just another recruitment effort for filling the pipeline with a new gang of full-time protesters and hell-raisers for whatever pinko Cuomo-cause that comes along.
  7. The internet is full of tomato pie recipes. The pictures all look completely different. Some of them use ripe tomatoes, some use green tomatoes. Some really do look like pizza other ones look like a regular piece of pie. Apparently tomato pies are not as rare as I thought. I never even heard of such a thing until you mentioned it. Every section of the country seems to have their own version. But I've got to say that the whole idea kind of squicks me out a little. But then I'm not a real big fan of tomatoes in anything.
  8. 43 years without pumping. That won't happen again. I learned my lesson. And the real good news is that I know where the damned thing is ..... lol.
  9. I see a comparison to some of the public high school problems. Now NYS colleges will be filled with misfits and partyers taking advantage of college life because they have no "skin" in the game. Goof-offs, and disrupters, and much, much worse will fill the classrooms because it allows a couple of more years of free playtime before they actually have to go out and get a job. But what the heck, we can just lower the standards so all these free-loaders can get a degree. Wonderful .....eh?
  10. All Better now!! Tank is pumped, and water is going where it is supposed to now. Had to snake out the line to the house to break through & with the help of a plunger, the blockage broke loose. Life is good again!
  11. Growie- Listen to Mr. B !!! The brunch is sounding so much better all the time.....lol. No, seriously.....I have never heard of a tomato pie. I can't imagine what could be done to tomatoes to make them taste good in a pie. But if you ever come across a recipe, be sure to post it. It would be interesting to see what it looks like.
  12. Thanks for all the ideas. But we found it yesterday. I had a guy come out with a special probe thingy that was about 3' long, 1/2" in diameter, pointed on the end, and had a wooden tee-handle. He started pushing this thing into the ground and found the tank in about 15 minutes. Today they are coming in to pump it out (first time since the installation 43 years ago). That is no guarantee that all will be fixed, and life will go back to normal .... lol. That still does not mean that we have found the problem, but the tank had to be found and pumped anyway. Now we will see where we go from there to locate the blockage. The tank was not full, so I suspect there is a blockage some where toward the house. I have no idea why they don't cast a big steel ring in the lid for the tank cleanout. I would have easily found it with my metal detector, and a ring in the lid would assist with pulling the lid. Back in '74, we had a pretty crude zoning set-up, and things were fairly slip-shod in terms of records-keeping. So there was no records of the tank location. The builder has been long out of business, so no help there. But anyway, we've got it found now, and thanks to everyone for the advice.
  13. It appears from the crap overflowing the downstairs toilet that there is a major septic tank failure. The trick is that I have no idea where the tank is. It would appear that the tank is not steel, but rather concrete or fiberglass, so a metal detector is of no use. I checked the town hall for a plot plan that might show the location from when we had the house built, but there is none on file. So what's the secret. How do you go about finding one of these things without digging up the whole yard?
  14. There was another shooting phenomenon who recently passed by name of Stacy Groscup. He did the aspirin shooting thin too, and lifesavers. He used both longbow and compound claiming that instinctive shooting was harder with a compound because of the change in the draw cycle. He was also phenomenal with a tomahawk and a blowgun. He was shooting prone on his belly, and on his back. Just about any un-natural way that you could shoot a bow, he did it. Quite a few years ago, I saw his show in the now defunct Creekside Gun Shop. Pretty spectacular!
  15. It seems to me that Trump is in a no win situation. He talks about the whimpering do nothing Obama who basically turned the US into a friggin laughing stock around the world with his cowering failure to react to outright challenges (and that was all true) but then he gets criticized for establishing the US as someone not to mess with. Some people apparently defined his America First policy as meaning that he intended to withdraw from the entire international scene and continue Obama's policy of sitting in some dark corner sucking our thumbs and maintaining a posture of irrelevance and cowardice. Well, I guess they got it wrong......thankfully. This gas attack was just a test to see what Trump was made of. I think he passed the test.
  16. Yeah, the peepers are screeching up a storm. I have heard they have to be frozen three times before winter weather is finally done. Well, I haven't been counting this year. But between them and the warmer days, I have been engaged in the first signs of spring around our place. That is raking all the stones and gravel off the edges of the grass where the snowplow left them. Wish I could afford 1000' of macadam driveway.
  17. Wow! 38 pages and counting .... lol. These kinds of threads always do well. They give members a chance to beat their chests and declare what great hunters they are and proclaim that they are superior hunters who will only hunt the oldest and wisest buck in the woods. If they can find that old toothless, sway-backed, bag of grizzle, they have finally found the only worthy adversary in the woods that is fit to challenge their own superior hunting skills......lol. And then there are those that claim that massive racks do nothing for them because they are only in it for the meat and that flash of antlers through the trees doesn't excite them one bit. And let's not leave out the "custodians of the wild" that really only hunt purely for the benefit of the herd. They believe that the herd is doomed unless they heap an adequate volume of restrictions on hunters and hunting. They never saw a restriction they weren't in love with. I love these threads because everybody gets to spout off and make themselves feel good and walk away thinking how they must have just impressed the hell out of the entire forum membership ...... lol. Can we get another 38 pages of this stuff? It helps to brighten the day.
  18. I have that exact same trailer including the mesh floor, and bought from the same place. I don't remember how many years I have had it. I use it for hauling ATVs, lawn mowers, lumber products, etc., etc. No issue with the mesh floor, but it is kept under cover down in the barn, and has never seen road salt. Used in this way, I have no doubt that it will last through my lifetime at least. One thing I have noticed though is that tailgate acts like dragging a parachute when it comes to gas mileage (Towing with a Honda CRV). It is definitely noticeable when using a marginal HP vehicle.
  19. There you go. Now you are getting down to the real direction some of you want to go. Throw up whatever roadblocks you can think of to stifle success, and all the deer will live longer. Isn't that great. Maybe just shut deer hunting down every other year. That would work too. Not only that but enough more people would drop out of hunting and make even more deer live longer. Great! Now let's see just how many new pop-fad management plans we can throw out there in the name of making older deer. I'm sure if we try hard enough, we can wreck the entire sport of hunting with these damn crazy ideas designed to frustrate hunters.
  20. This problem is not new. We have long had areas like "Little Italy" and Chinatown and such where people of like heritage cluster and maintain their own spheres of comfort. No that is not a good result, and takes a lot more generations than should have been necessary for assimilation. But assimilation does eventually come regardless of how many generations it takes. However, those who start off with a philosophy that US rules and laws are for breaking (illegal aliens), pose a much more direct and immediate danger to our society.
  21. It seems to me that the only herd management ideas that anyone comes up with anymore are to make hunting rules more complex to the point where we are increasing the likelihood that hunters are going to be breaking them. And then we sit around and whine about the shrinking hunter numbers.
  22. I suspect he was convinced that it was a doe and that was why he pulled the trigger. I doubt that ARs would have made him see what he couldn't see before. But the fact that he shot a buck thinking it was a doe does bring up an interesting dilemma that could result in even more otherwise normally honest people being turned into poachers, or even more wasted venison rotting in the woods because of ARs.
  23. It is curious that nobody worries about allowing does to become one of those prolific fawn producers who pop out the stronger, healthier, twins and triplets. Why is it that nobody seems to worry about preserving does into the old matriarch category?
  24. I don't think it is so much directing my anger at illegal aliens as it is anger against those apologists who continue to pretend that there is no value to the sovereignty of our borders. When you call these people what they are (Illegal aliens), it avoids confusing them with all of the legal immigrants who have made an effort to come here respecting our laws and our country. I believe that ALL illegal aliens should be deported when located ...... No exceptions. And whatever means that are required to exclude them and force them to abide by the legal processes in order to set up residency here should be done ........ including the damn wall. Force them to become legal immigrants instead of illegal aliens.
  25. The kid was shooting what he thought was a DOE. He would have had no reason to worry about point-count even with ARs in place because he had already decided that it had no points. When you are filling a doe tag, ARs have no bearing on whether you pull the trigger or not. Once you have decided it is a doe and you have the necessary permit AR is no longer a part of your decision to shoot. He would have shot this deer anyway with or without ARs. So no, ARs would not have changed the outcome.
