Cats and barbecue sauce are my favorite. How big is it? Could it feed two?

Prayers sent. Unless his belt broke this was so avoidable. Every year this type thing happens. Please wear your safety harness and not after you get up there. Even with ladder type stands, HSS sells a lifeline. You can’t fall using it properly. Never climb even part way up without it. Not even to set stands. Your family needs you.

There for the feed

I found some dead deer near pine island. Was hoping they were road kills but there’s floaters in the ponds now.

Well this time of year there’s very few that would sit all day. I know it happens but it’s pretty rare and it’d still be better for guys than someone walking through at prime time. Rut is a different story.

I know there’s research guys that moon affects nothing. I’ve been bow hunting over 40 years now. I live in a state I used to shoot probably a dozen deer a year avg. This isn’t to brag. It was a liberal limit. I’m sure you’d all do it too. In all that time with all those deer I’ve killed lots more on a dark night than one with a big moon. This morning though was completely full moon yet at least some deer were moving. I got a chip shot at a doe after seeing a couple but that’s not what normally happens on big moons in my area. Never gonna stop me from trying mind you. On the way in I heard 2 coyote packs so I can’t say for sure it wasn’t attributed to forced movement of some sort. This isn’t a right or wrong thread. I’m not asking to change my mind either. I know what I’ve experienced. Forget what you’ve read or heard what are your experiences though and in what part of state? My observations are primarily Orange co with a lesser extent Sullivan Co. Was so bright this morning looked daytime. The camera flashed so the field shows light but this is 4:30 this morning near the barns.

If you are worried about disturbing bowhunters just remember when they’ll be there. Few hours in the morning, few hours in evening. Go mid day and I don’t think you’ll even see anyone.

What’s on that deers shoulder a fibroma?

Nice congrats! I took a doe with a longbow this morning but never took a pic. It was a little warm and I was hustling to quarter it and stick in a spare refrigerator. I never cut off bone til a day or so pass. I’m not crazy about the bugs all over the deer when trying to skin either so the quicker the better. Ive got a new piece I’m gonna hunt this weekend but like you I’m buck hunting now.

Zag I’m hesitant to say this as I don’t want anything taken wrong but there are quite a few forms flaws that could hurt him. If you wish pm me your number and I’ll help you. If you’re near Orange County I’ll even meet you to help. If anyone else needs help that offer stands for you all as well.

Good luck with him -
Yes he was a small round guy

Big difference in sport hunting and sustenance hunting. Can’t fault them.

Can’t remember who it was. I believe Capstick wrote about it in one of his books. Don’t wanna hijack the thread but Capstick put out some amazing books. Sasha Seimel was an interesting character as well. Once I find out I’ll post it up

I believe you. There was no questioning

Hmmm you were typing same time as I. Was it Bell who used the .243 for elephant also? I believe it was him but I can’t remember for sure. When I get a chance I’ll look it up

Idk man that round doesn’t offer too many perfect bullet choices for that situation. I can’t think of any. Either they’re too frangible or wouldn’t mushroom correctly Id not think. I know guys have had dramatic results on deer. But a bear that big. Idk if I’d be comfortable being backed up with that. Now I don’t take shots I can’t make so backup is irrelevant but crazy story. Not that I’m disbelieving your story. I bet they use whatever gun they had. Many many years ago and prob yo this day some of the tribal people from my understanding were incorrectly equipped to take elephants but they went anyhow. I think I read somewhere and I’m not sure who it was but they were being shot with a .243. Behind the ear I think.

.308 case, slightly smaller head. It’s actually a perfect round

I’m not sure I don’t ever go on that sight. Too much bickering

He’s a top instructor. Very good. I’ve got some Stans but I like Carter a little better. My daughter still shoots a carter. I havent shot a wheel bow in a few years now.

No problem

See if this helps you understand

Look up archery learning center. George Ryal has a very interesting way of using the thumb release. It’s using proper back tension and you fire it like a hinge. You’ll not know exactly when it’s firing, the back tension results in follow through. A string bow if you know what that is can help practice form. Remember an arrow stays with the string a long time. Further than you think. Any deviation in form can result in misses. Your hand should wind up near your shoulder upon release. You’re pushing your elbow back, not pulling the string. Imaginr you’re on a school bus and someone is pushing your elbow. You push back. Once they are gone your follow through naturally occurs. I’ll see if I can find a Clay Hayes video about that. Seeing it may help you visualize. He’s a styk guy but follow through is follow through.

Just offering to help. Many guys are sure they understand the right way so I understand. Sometimes there’s things we don’t know though. Stance, Shoulder position, elbow position, grip, draw, release, follow through is consistent among all bows or would be best if it was. Incorrect grip leads to string slap as well. I’m glad you’re good.
