To paraphrase several posts: "But it's public information, anyone can find it if they look, so it doesn't matter if it's published". Also, one of those citations was unconditionally discharged . Even by your rational, his name should not be published, right?
-
I have no problem with people posting public information, but I see several people on this thread that were singing a different tune when that paper published the public information of gun owners a few months back.

So you write something that is completely wrong, and now you're blaming people for pulling it out of context? It wasn't out of context, you were incorrect. You are also incorrect about your "matter of time" statement above. The Elk in PA were transplanted and are heavily managed. If a handful did manage to 'escape' into NYS, the DEC doesn't want them here. There will never be a hunt-able herd unless the DEC changes its policies and makes a conscience effort to transplant them here. There is a better chance of getting a moose lottery in the future than there is of an elk one. And most of the people on this site don't claim to know 'everything about everything', but they sure do know there isn't an elk season in New York, now, or anytime in the foreseeable future. If you're getting your knickers in a twist for people calling you out for posting incorrect information, you're on the wrong site. However, if you want to see an example of true nitpicking, there is *not* and Eastern Elk hunting season anywhere. The Elk in PA are just transplanted Elk from Yellowstone (I believe they are American Elk). Eastern Elk have been extinct since the late 1870s.

Wait...wha..??

It opened as a PDF for me... From the bottom of the article: Is it safe to eat a deer with these tumors? Yes. Since the papillomaviruses are specific to deer and they only grow on the surface of the skin, there is no danger in consuming the meat if the deer appears otherwise healthy. Deer with numerous fibromas that block sight, eating, or drinking may be malnourished and therefore susceptible to other diseases or parasites. These deer may not be the best choice for consumption. Very large tumors may have secondary infections that could spread to other parts of the deer’s body causing that meat to be unfit for consumption. Irregular, broken, or bloody fibromas or those that are scabby or exuding pus may have developed secondary infections.

It is very hard to specifically (legally) hunt bear in NY state. Most bears are shot as targets of opportunity while people are deer hunting. With no baiting, and being limited to 1.5 oz of attractant, unless you know there is a bear revisiting the same area (like a dump or one that is constantly hitting garbage cans), your odds of going out and coming back with one are very slim.

NYC already has a similar law. When you file for your permit you need to declare a person who can (and will) legally take possession of your guns in case you die. If you don't, the police will come and take them.
-
I have to say, that is damn impressive and a beautiful bear. Congratulations!
-
I live in SI. We have some beautiful deer...and no hunting allowed. As the population gets more and more out of control, it was be interesting to see how they deal with it. And by interesting, I mean a huge waste of tax payer money instead of making it a revenue generator.

I was up Mon and Tues for the last couple days of bow. I saw one nice buck and a couple of smaller ones, but nothing in range. They were chasing does though. Opening weekend should be very active. I really hope that nice buck I saw shows up again.

I'll miss you too.

I think its cute that you took 11 minutes of your life to hunt down and post the actual part of the law, like you knew it off the top of your head, dude. Your post says "everything else is legal". Someone who doesn't know better, dude, might think they can bring a long arm into the city and not have a problem, dude. Or an air rifle, dude. Or a sling shot, dude. For you to say you're a LEO and then say everything except pistols and automatic weapons are fine is bad advice, dude.
-
Do you work LE in the State, or NYC? What you are saying about NYC law is not correct. All long arms in the city are registered and you need a special permit for them. If you don't have a Rifle and Shotgun permit, and your guns aren't registered with the police, they are illegal. Also, air rifles and even wrist support sling shots are illegal. How is "everything else" except pistols and automatic weapons legal?
-
Yeah, I'm excited. I'm going up late tonight to hunt Sunday and Monday. I'll be in the area of Mongaup Valley or Claryville, not really sure which yet.

No Voter Fraud? Wake Up People!
Sogaard replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I'm not getting into this again on a different thread, but in-person voter fraud is a very rare occurrence and statistically insignificant. Most voter fraud occurs through the use of affidavit ballots, which showing an ID at the poll site doesn't help in any way. Read the "Really Cuomo again" thread for details. If you really want to prevent voter fraud, and not just suppress the legal voting rights of people who don't vote the way you vote, here are a couple of good reads: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/10/13/the-disconnect-between-voter-id-laws-and-voter-fraud/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/11/04/how-to-stop-voter-fraud-and-increase-turnout-at-the-same-time/ -

You won't find me arguing that. The dirty secret is we like cheap labor because we benefit from it. We like cheaper construction. We like cheaper food. I have a saying, everyone's a libertarian until their water main breaks. Same rules apply. -

Greed, profit margins, call it what you want. When you have to pay one person at least minimum wage, and another $6-7 an hour to work in the same kitchen... -
Good luck trying to get a straight answer. I have combed through the law myself, and have even asked everyone from LEOs to ADAs and the best answer I got was, "It's probably legal, but you still might get arrested."

No, that is updating your registration information. That is not the same thing as registering for the first time. -

I'm not saying you, personally, do. I'm saying they are here because "we" employ them at much better rates than they can get at home. How do you blame just them for trying to work here when it us US citizens that create the void they fill? -

The Board of Elections runs those numbers through either the SS database or the DMV when they register you in their voter database. -

Interesting read...a little dated, but it still applies. This is one of those "be careful what you wish for" topics. http://www.businessinsider.com/illegal-immigrants-deported-2012-1?op=1 -

Yes, besides that. Because living on just what social programs, that illegals are eligible for, can provide is not something anyone is aspiring to. Or do you think it's OK for small business owners / restaurants / farmers to employ illegals to increase profits, so they shouldn't be blamed for enabling the situation you complain about?
