  1. Seen the same thing several times on the island, so definitely not a bear or porcupine.
  2. Just my $ .02, butcher your own if at all possible whenever possible. Some of these guys have 30-40+ deer lined up in a row. No way of knowing if your actually getting your meat back. If your not, did the other guy use as much precaution keeping carcass cold? I understand it's not always possible to do yourself, but IMO it's way better
  3. Second sit of year. Same spot as last night, few trees over. Raining acorns. Spike with a young seven point chowing on acorns. At 60 yards as soon as I got settled. Saw four different bucks in here last night, including a shooter who ran under me chasing a doe. (Never slowed down for a shot) It was like peak of the rut in here last night. Deer on the Island sure don't listen to rut predictions
  4. 2009 PSE stinger, new (last year) vapor trails bowstring. 58lbs. Gold tip cut hunter arrows. Loud, slow, and deadly. There are way way way better bows out there but don't want to spend 1500 on a new setup. Next bow will be when I start planning my first elk hunt. 2017?
  5. " A New York state ban on semi-automatic weapons sets a worrying precedent that could affect the rights of South Dakotans and people across the country to use such weapons in hunting" Where does the second amendment reference hunting?
  6. Yeah expressing a 1st amendment right about supporting the second amendment doesn't belong in schools! Question: if the kid had a shirt that said "let gay's marry" would he/she be suspended?
  7. It's an obvious choice for me. I'll never sharpen another skinning knife ever
  8. Officer: "License and registration ease." Citizen: "here you go officer" Officer: "oh, your a hunter and fisherman" Citizen: "yes sir" Officer: "may I search your vehicle for evil weapons?"
  9. On stand now...thought the rain may stop before dark. Man I was wrong. I had a shed buck chasing two does the first week of shotgun last year, so I think mbucks advice on scents is a good one. I've been positioning myself in between bedding and feeding and have been seeing deer. Including a nice buck just out of range last week. I'm gonna try to hunt hard the next few days.
  10. According to Steve it would cost more money in overtime pay for cops at protests for opening up county parks to hunting than the $300,000 plus dollars to pay sharpshooters. Possibly the most ludicrous thing I've heard this year. -Increase hunting access -Mandate a certain number of does before a buck.
  11. First off anyone who bow hunts there can tell you there are hoards of bow hunters. Since it is bow only out there, a lot of people pick up the bow and hunt out there exclusively. Secondly these shooters are going to be shooting out in the farm fields not in backyards. I don't care who they are there not using a rifle in subdivisions. (Bow hunters could do that) if there was a program set up that I could shoot unlimited does without having to turn in their head (check station is 40 miles from me) then have somewhere close set up to receive the donated deer. I would gladly kill 10+ does a season. 1. Hunter/landowner program paid for by hunters wishing to participate 2. 2 does before a buck 3. And or 5 does a season to participate following year. (Reimplement earn a buck now with five does) 4. Eliminate having to check in does to get another tag, set up legitimate venison donation program. 5. Extend shotgun season entire month of jan including weekends. 6. Open up county parks & town land to bow hunters This wouldn't cost taxpayers 300k plus. Long term solution to controlling deer herd.
  12. Havalon piranta Dexter Russell- boning knife Only two knives you'll ever need
  13. If the towns would implement a landowner/qualified hunter program. Landowners sign up. Hunters take a proficiency test, shoot five does before a buck, and pay a fee (goes to paying for mail outs to landowners and maybe venison donation program). Deer control without costing taxpayers a dime. Instead TAXPAYERS are paying for usda sharpshooters to kill deer that many of us would gladly shoot with a bow. Government can screw up just about anything.
  14. Notice the mud on his feet....he's came from a swamp...
  15. Try to walk like a deer...don't get caught in an open area. Pick out a spot you want to get to and get there. I don't know how many times I've been caught mid step in the middle of an open patch, surer than sh** a deer is standing at 50 yards. Open timber seems to work best for me. Somewhere you can dodge behind a tree but also see two hundred yards.

  17. Quiet on here? Anyone seeing anything on the island? Perfect morning didn't see anything except for on short drive to stand. Cousin had a small 8 come in to a bleat. Seems like rut is over down here. Saw most activity late October to early November. Hoping for a good second rut. Headed back out for afternoon then off to pa for gun opener.
  18. Didn't sit this weekend. Sat last night and on stand now. Last night had a seven pointer at 39 yards, no real shot. Don't think I would have shot him knowing there's bigger ones In the area. This am had a fox and a doe before sunrise. Had a small racked buck at 35 yards but no shot about 30 minutes ago. First real cold front of the season next week. Thur-fri next week should be great days in to be in the stand.
  19. In stand on the island. Pinch point.Wind is swirley. Warm but cooler than yesterday. Acorns dropping like crazy. Forgot I Stripped this tree of spikes to avoid theft. Had four in my pack. You do the math...
  20. Abruno congrats! Where was that taken?
