Not today, that place will be slammed.
-
Not forever, just until the full inclusion bill passes. Then, hopefully we can all move on.
-
Good luck! Edit: Unless you're the guy crowding in on me already. Then, scr3w you ????.

Same reason I choose a sidelock over an inline. Same reason I drive a pickup instead of a car. Because I like it. It's what makes me enjoy my hunt the most. I'm skilled with my compound, but I like my crossbow. That's the only reason I need. Beyond that it's nobody's business. Everyone is so concerned with what everyone else is doing.
-
I've seen that with guns, too & I know guys who've gone out with their compounds that were nowhere near ready. You can't fix stupid.
-
Some people just can't see that Stone. Let them have their little tantrums, because you're never going to persuade them. It's irrelevant anyway, because it's not IF crossbows get inclusion, it's WHEN.
-
Nothing is stopping them, but maybe they WANT to hunt with a crossbow. Maybe it's their weapon of choice. You're not disabled, right? So why aren't you out there with a recurve, or self bow? I mean, surely traditional guys are more dedicated & harder working, right? They HAVE to be. You hunt with a compound, because it is what you LIKE. You have that choice, so why not the guy who'd rather use a crossbow? Why should he have to use the weapon that you deem appropriate? Do you have a muzzleloader? Is it an inline? If so, why should you get to use it during muzzleloader season? What's keeping you from shooting a Hawken, like the real black powder guys? We surely work harder & have more skill than inline shooters. Right? No, it's your choice, & none of my damn business. As far as wounding, give me a break. Any weapon can be efficient when wielded by a hunter who has put in the time to learn it. Just like any weapon can wound when used by a hack. There's dbags out there who shoot too far, too late, too early, through brush, etc etc, no matter what weapon they hold.

That's like saying anybody who drives a prius is gay, or anybody shooting an AR is a bank robber.

No hunting fatalities in 2015 season, DEC announces
Skillet replied to Galliform's topic in General Hunting
So the entire NYS 2015 season was about equal in shootings to a few rough nights in the hood. I'm definitely seeing your point Mike. Great argument. I just shredded my NRA card. -
It's the pistol grips. They're scary.
-
I'd be happy to remove them for you. I won't even charge you for this valuable service.

Heading to camp to fish Naples creek Friday - Sunday. A few guys are going to come down, like every year. I'm afraid it'll end up a bust. The fish ran early this year. I was seeing lots of them way upstream the first week of March. I only saw a few last week. On top of that, it's supposed to rain Thursday and Friday. The creek might be muddy. Not holding my breath. Anybody else going down there, or anywhere?
-
I use one, mostly for bow and turkey hunting. It's especially important with my crossbow, due to the steep trajectory.
-
I'm trying to become proficient with my recurve, but I don't know if I'll be confident enough by this season. If so, I'd love to hunt with it for awhile. But, I would like the option to take my crossbow out whenever I wanted to.

40 isn't the end of the road, but you can see it from there! Happy Birthday!
-
LoL. I'm slow today.

I just looked at the DEC site. It says the setback distance is 150FT for vertical bows & 250FT for crossbows.

DEC Webless Migratory Game Bird Survey - Includes Doves
Skillet replied to mike rossi's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
Boy, I can't wait for full crossbow inclusion! -
I love traditional archery, & I have a lot of respect for people who hunt that way, until they start to look down on others for their choice of weapon. I don't see anything bad about a crossbow. Just like any other weapon, it's humane as long as you practice & know your limitations. Most of all, I like that it will get more people out there, which is very important, considering our dwindling numbers.
-
If you're really looking to get traditional, just try running them down and bashing their skull in with a rock. I'm sick of the people that have decided their personal level of technology in weapons, is the most modern that is acceptable. According to them, everybody using anything after that is trying to destroy the sport.

My Hunting with Lead Bullets Research not a debate
Skillet replied to Tacti_Steve's topic in General Hunting
Mike, what does your post have to do with Steve's thread? I mean, other than the intent to derail it by inserting a totally unrelated issue. (Nice choice of issue, btw. High fence / preserve debate would surely be a good way to dilute the thread & distract readers from the info he posted.) That's like someone dropping by one of your precious dove hunting threads & talking about bear baiting. Classy. -
Lyman Deerstalker 50cal sidelock, in stainless. Unfortunately, it is discontinued. I keep an eye out on the auction sites, but no luck.

My spinning reels are open faced, & thats where the similarities end.The fly rod is probably over twice as long as an ultralight. That gives it more leverage to fight the fish with. The flexibility of the longer pole prevents the fish from exerting as much shock on the line, as the rod absorbs most of it. As a result, you can be much more controlling when fighting a large fish. It allows you to horse them a little more, provided your drag is properly set. Those are important things when fighting large fish in small streams, where brush and rocks can quickly break line, should a hooked fish get too much room to run. Also, being able to stand back 6' from the bank and present bait to a fish in a 10" deep by 2' wide pool, is a huge advantage that would be impossible with an ultralight. Trout that see you, will not hit, period. I'm no expert, this is just what I was taught, & have experienced.

The fly rod absorbs a lot of shock, so the fish really can't get an edge on me too easy. It's nice because it gives you a lot of leverage. It also allows you to stand back from the edge and fish smaller holes without showing yourself to the fish.
