  1. There will be cross-bows in the archery season in 5 years or less, and you know who to blame its not the cross-bow guys it’s not the gun hunters it’s not the handicap hunters. The blame for the use of cross-bow in the archery season should be place squarely on the shoulders of the origination that claims to represent all bow hunters. The NYB by taking a no cross-bow no-way for any reason stand. Made it possible for the pro cross-bow forces to get almost everything in time they want. Because the NYB made themselves look like elitist spoiled children. The NYB could of help craft a law that would have loosened the handicap restriction and maybe put in an age requirement. Let’s hope when cross –bows comes to the archery season those wanting to use cross-bows in the archery season will have to take the bow hunters course.
  2. There may be cross bows rated for 400fps but most are rated for 300 to 350 fps and that’s under optimum conditions look at are bows mine is rated for 320 IBO it shoots at 293fps. Not many of us have bows that shoot at IBO rated speeds. The only thing I would say is how much speed do you need once you go though the deer any speed left over is of no use to you. The difference between 300 and 400fps at 40 yards is about 3”.
  3. A 46% return is very good most return rates are 20% or less. For any six sigma sampling plan. They always send out more surveys then needed
  4. With a Saturday opener there will always be hunting on Sunday. There is very little interests in moving the opener to Monday
  5. There is a lot of name calling for this being a dead issue sources at the DEC have said cross – bows in the archery season in 5 years or less. This will make for good reading look at this link pay attention to pages 10 -13 deersurvppt2010.pdf
  6. First let me state that I am a bow hunter and have no intention of buying a cross-bow. With a friend who has MS I decided to do some research into the cross-bow issue. My friend is never going to climb into a tree stand again and a draw lock doesn’t work for him. A cross-bow may not work for him but he deserves the opportunity to try one if he wants. I have to admit I have limited experience with a cross-bow. I have only shot one once and found it to be heavy and cumbersome and noisy. To me it more of a novelty I’m not going to put 500 to 800 dollars down on one. The only advantage I can see is it may be a more stable platform then a bow.
  7. you can also mount optics on a vertical bow so your point is what
  8. on the trigger thing have you looked at a release lately
  9. Can someone tell me what the hell an x-gun is? I thought this was about cross-bows? I can’t find anything in my Webster dictionary under the definition of a cross-bow that mentions the word gun. It does mention the word bow though. A crossbow is a bow mounted on a stock that shoots projectiles, often called bolts.
  10. most police are useing sw-40's NY state police and DEC CO's use glock sw-40's
  11. Talked to the DEC guys at the Rochester show they said that there will most likely be no changes in the deer season this year no Oct1 bow opener the only change is the x-bow thing. The Oct1 bow opener won’t happen till 2012 and a youth deer hunt on Columbus Day weekend in 2013.

  13. you can never do to much damage
  14. Here are a couple of pictures of a Federal Barns expander slug. That I recovered from a deer I shot. As you can see the slug did not expand very well one peddle opened up and folded in. the slug was recovered from the deer’s neck facing backward it was the 2nd of 2 shots. Here’s the story; the deer was coming at me and veered to my left I shot the 1st shot though both lungs at 15yd’s. So the 1st shot killed it but it did not drop it turned 90* facing away and start running. I put the 2nd shot though the left ham and recovered it in the neck on the right side the slug tumble almost though the length of the deer.
  15. I use copper solids they shoot well out of my 870. They do seem to put a good size hole in deer. But I have not recovered one so far. I do have a 20lb block of duct seal I have shot them into, but they go clean though it at 50yds. I may try 40lb this spring. They do show signs of expansion but duct seal is denser then a deer.
  16. there are to eastern cougars i saw one in rochester just a week ago in a bar
  17. If you bait and get caught why should you get your stuff back you know baiting is illegal. To f---en bad for you
  18. hornady makes a interbond and a sst bullet in 25cal both should work
  19. I use white hots they shot good for me
  20. This is a question to the guys who hunt in the Catskills. With the habitat being more like the Adirondacks would it be better to manage the deer herd more like that in the northern zone, or remove region 3 and part of 4 out of the southern zone and make it its own zone. This is just a question for my own info I don’t hunt there.
  21. Why are there so many pages on baiting? Baiting is illegal in NY. This is what’s funny put out 100lb of corn it’s baiting plant 2dz. Rows of corn it’s a food plot.
