  1. That’s BS someone who is unsafe will always be unsafe AR’s won’t change Behavior. Fawns are off the teat by the August if there not they won’t make it through the winter. Is it ok to shoot doe fawns if it’s not isn’t that hypocritical if it’s ok to shoot 1.5 year old doe why is not ok to shoot a .5 year old. You’ll still see more bucks because you killed a doe. Isn’t that what’s suppose to happen kill doe’s see more bucks? Isn’t that what this group is saying? Maybe things have change since I took Bio 101 kill females and you reduce the entire population. That may have changed the NEW SIENCE kill females get more males I do not know?
  2. no blood on the arrow he just took some hair
  3. this is the buck my trail cam got this morning while I was hunting my stand this buck is 40yds from the trailer
  4. You have to read the law it gives the DEC the option to have a 1 week cross bow season in the southern zone after the late bow – ML season the key word is option
  5. I shoot out to 40 and have killed every deer i have shot at 40 but i can count on 1 hand how many times in 35 years i have shot that far my last deer i shot was at less then 20 feet
  6. What it looks like we will see as rule changes is the bow season opening earlier a late x-bow season after the southern zone ML season and a loosening of the distance requirement for bow from 500ft to 250ft. Here is something will the NYBH demand that they should be able to hunt in the x-bow season?

    Bleat cans

I use the CAN it's like anything else it works sometimes. I did have a 8pt come running in so fast I almost couldn't get the CAN back in my pocket.
  8. yes i would shoot a 2.5 year old and how could you tell for sure how old it is without looking at the teeth. depending on where you live a 2.5 could be a good size deer.
  9. I would go with the corn if you can find where they are comeing and going to the corn. I would get about 50 to 100 yards off the edge and see what happens you can always move if you have to
  10. The first time this proposal came out was about 5 or 6 years ago it was a group that had 20000 acres they at the time wanted to have people come to hunt for pay. The wanted a rule change in 7f, j, and h to a spread requirement at the time one of the numbers they provided had a NYC area code. They claimed their proposal would benefit the deer and hunters but they didn’t tell anyone it would also benefit their wallets. >
  11. with so many of us claiming we are doing QDM and poles saying we are for AR's answer this why has the percentage of 1.5 year old in the harvest has staide the same for the last 10 years
  12. Here is why there won’t ever be a shorter gun season it’s simple that’s where the money is. Not in the bow or ml season. When all the gun hunters go out and buy cross – bows to hunt the bow season and the bow season becomes the money maker then the gun season will get shorter. Here one thing you could do if you think the gun season is to long STAY HOME HALF the gun season. I have killed almost as many deer with a bow as with a gun including 8 p&y’s
  13. Could QDM be a prime factor in the lower number of deer sightings? We all heard it at the end of deer season on wed sites or in publications from other hunters; I hunted all season and only saw 6 deer all season. Then we start looking for someone or something to blame. We blame the DEC because we think the herd size estimates are wrong, we blame coyotes, to many nuisance permits being given out and even cars. All these are factors and there are more one of the biggest factors is hardly mentioned and that’s “US” myself included. When we all first started to hear about QDM and its management style; we were told if we wanted to see bigger bucks we needed to let small bucks walk, manage does (kill more does) this is not the same as antlerless. We were told the buck to doe ratio was way off and needed to be 1 to 1 this ratio is not correct. The harvesting of doe’s makes scents; to control a population you need to add or subtract females. We were also told that if we killed Does we would see more bucks. I do not think that is necessarily true and I can prove it. When I say doe’s I mean females 1.5 years old and older not antlerless. Because at any time before the deer season ½ to 2/3’s of the antlerless population on a piece of land are fawns. If on your land you have 15 doe’s and 5 bucks (1.5 years and older) and you kill 10 doe’s and no bucks you still only have 5 bucks. What you have done is reduced the number of doe’s by 2/3’s. What you will see are more buck sightings per doe sighting and you will see fewer fawns the next year. Another example is in Allegany County a farmer started a QDM program on his 1700 acres. He went out at night spot lighting to see what kind of deer he had and he saw lots of antlerless deer. For 3 years they took over 40 doe’s a year using DMP’s and DMAP’s. He would let you hunt there but you had to kill doe’s no bucks. They would kill a few big bucks. Then in years 4-6 they started to kill fewer and fewer doe’s by year 6 they killed less than 10 doe’s and no bucks, saw plenty of bucks before the season but killed none. Funny thing started to happen, his neighbors started to kill big bucks. They were not killing off their doe’s so the bucks were moving to where the does are. What I believe he did was not only destroy his doe population he also destroyed the age structure of his doe herd. This is what I believe we are doing under the miss guided concept of killing doe’s gives you more bucks and the myth of the 1 to 1 buck to doe ratio. If anyone can show me how killing doe’s can give you more bucks that’s a trick I would like to see. With a birth rate at 50/50 bucks to doe’s I am not advocating not shooting doe’s; what I am advocating is be careful on how many and where in the age structure you harvest the doe’s from. THIS IS A REPOST
  14. two were fwns nailed about 100 feet apart
  15. Hey that’s my girl friend !
  16. if you shoot foster slugs though a full choke they will squish going though the choke and who knows where they will go
  17. As for changing the start of the gun season till after the rut 1st you would have to define the RUT and what part of the rut you are talking about. Those of us who bow hunt allot all know the best time to be In the wood is after NOV 1st with the second week being the one of the best weeks. So the rut is pretty much over when the gun season starts in the southern zone. As for the northern zone I just read a report on another thread that said the RUT in the northern zone goes on for a 120 days so when do you start the gun season? Then if you believe what’s in Deer & Deer Hunting and Charlie A. you would have to change the start of the gun season every year. As for the 2 buck thing only about 5% of the hunters kill 2 bucks on average per year. But I have a plan that everyone will like. It would guarantee bigger and more bucks and more deer. Hey here’s away to have more deer and bigger bucks, with no AR’s. Adopt a 1 on 2 off policy we hunt 1 year and then no hunting for 2 years. On the year we hunt we have a bag limit of 4 bucks and 6 doe’s this should satisfy the big buck crowd; and the I’m not seeing any deer crowd. There would be plenty of bucks and plenty of deer.
  18. The slot limit is a good one that would go over like a fart in church. I typed real slow so The Hunter would understand.
  19. i think 150 class bucks are in the AR zone isn't that what there for
  20. more deer have been killed with a 30/30 then with any other rifle start there good out to 150yd's
