  1. One upside to my Deer hunting activities is that I have lost almost 10 pounds so far this season . If I can keep this up , by the time I am 85 , I should be at a reasonable weight . In the past I had tried some 30 day diets and all I lost was a few months !
  2. I have put up many ladder stands by myself and thought the advertisement video was Bogus . Read the directions that come with a stand . On a ladderstand you attach ropes or straps to the seat or platform , put the stand against the tree and secure the ladder before climbing up to attach a ratchet strap . In the video , they are carrying a 30 pound stand and don't have a backpack with any gear in it . It's also not hard to move a ladderstand . Just put your head through one of the ladder openings and carry the weight on your shoulders . No biggie !
  3. Growie --- I think you have to act like today could be the last day of your life so live it to the fullest and do what you enjoy doing . I think when I croak I want someone to say , hey go out to Eddie's stand and see if his Blaze Orange Walker is still there .
  4. Another exciting day in the great outdoors . I was in my elevated blind by 6:30 this morning . Sat until just past noon and never saw a thing . Trimmed some branches and cut down a couple small trees . Walked slow through the thickets and back without seeing or hearing anything . I had my bow saw and loppers as well as my shooting sticks in a bag . As I was walking up the lane way , two doe jumped into it about 100 yards away . One scooted off and the other stood there watching me . After a couple minutes I slowly tried to put the bag down and the doe scurried off . As I was picking the bag back up , another doe ran out of the same area . So much for hunting !
  5. Not sure myself . I think I'd like to change some words to a song and call it "Achy Breaky Parts" . When I got done today walking across a bumpy plowed field and into the woods and back plus up and down a couple hills , my legs felt like lead . I'm feeling my age and wondering how much longer I can keep it up but I don't want to quit . I think it's called stubbornness ...... I don't quit because I can't shoot a deer from my computer .
  6. Sitting in my driveway right now. When I was making the long walk from the stand I kicked 3 doe out of the lane way. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  7. Nothing moving. I am going to get down at noon and trim a few limbs. Then I will walk back to the woods and check it out. My butt and legs have fallen asleep . Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  8. I am sooooo bored . If I had left my gun in the car I probably would have seen plenty of deer . Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  9. Nothing so far . Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  10. All is quiet on the Western Front ! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  11. This just reinforces the fact that King Barack is an IDIOT !
  12. We had the M1 when I first went into the Marine Corps . GREAT RIFLE ! Always wanted one but now at my age , it no longer matters .
  13. Looks like quite a few hunters are doing unsafe acts . Uptown .... If you see an update on this , let us know what happened .
  14. I will give Geneseo another try tomorrow . I have to get there early enough to do some trimming for shooting lanes . I had my son check out the view from my pond blind . I would actually be at least 4 feet higher than the view in the pic . I need to trim some of the small stuff that blocks the view of the field which would give me a 150 yard shot .
  15. Thanks for the article that clarifies how the woman was shot . An assumption would have been by another hunter shooting at a deer and this wasn't the case . A person in the hunting party didn't have his safety on according to the article .
  16. I wear a blaze orange vest over my jacket , and an orange hat and have an orange Back Tag Holder on a camo backpack . However , I have a camo seat pad that is attached to my backpack so it covers the tag holder . I am going to cover the seat pad with one of the orange Field & Stream bags . I only hunt private property but no sense in taking any chances .
  17. I was in a double stand in Walworth this am from dark to almost 11am . Didn't see any deer . The stands is almost 10 yards in the woods next to a cut bean field . You could see beyond 200 yards . I had my shotgun at the bean field is in Monroe County and the tree stand in in Wayne County . It was below freezing and I was getting very little sun so it stayed cold . Another BORING sit . Well , there is still more time left to fill some tags .
  18. Sitting in a stand just inside a woods by a cut bean field Wondering how someone could mistake a hunter for a deer . I can see 200 yards across the field and see posted signs without using binoculars. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  19. I am going to head to Walworth in a few minutes . I am no too crazy about hunting in freezing weather but I can't shoot anything from my computer . I have never had a shot on my friend's property . Maybe today will be the day .
  20. It's a sad situation . Any time you go out , you have to worry about other hunters doing something stupid .
  21. My 2 sons that hunt saw 3 small ( this year's deer ) , a spike with a broken off spike and as my oldest son was leaving the woods he saw a fork horn . Neither took any shots . I didn't hunt but pland to spend 2-3 hours in Walworth tomorrow am . Gotta hit the sack now .
