Field and Stream had the Rocky Silent Hunter Boots on clearance a couple weeks ago . They were normally $140 and marked down to $90 and then reduced to $68 . I wore them for the 1st time Saturday . Withe temp at 36 degrees and only 400 grams of insulation , my feet were a tad cold in the am . They are quite comfortable . They have the Vibram outsole and waterproof but I wouldn't walk through any stream with them . Due to the way they fit , I had to go to a half size larger . Due to fit , I would never buy boots and shoes on-line as my assortment of footwear is 3 different sizes (although I have done so in the past with some luck) ..

Got up at 3:30 this am to get ready to head to Geneseo to hunt with my youngest son . Was ready to leave at 4:45 and checked the trailer lights as I was hauling the ATV . Left rear running light not working . Took a few minutes and had it fixed ( ground wire ) . About a mile down the road , 2 doe ran across in front of me . Slowed down in case there were more . Hauled butt down 390 as we were to meet at 6 am at my SIL's property . Coming down Lima Road in Geneseo , I had another 2 doe cross in front of me . One actually stopped in the road . It's 45 mph on most of that road and it's one road that I don't speed on . Since Nick doesn't have a lot of days to hunt , he took the stand in the woods and I took another stand in a wooded area near a pond where I put a stand 3 years ago . I didn't see one darned deer and had great visability . Got a text from Nick around 8 am that he had just shot a fawn . I texted back as to why he didn't wait for an adult deer and he said because they had run off . He saw 8 deer , possibly another 2 , a fox and a turkey . It was from the stand that I hunted from opening day in the rain . At 11:30 I got down , walked to my car , got the ATV and sled and headed for the woods to pick up Nick and his deer .The bean fields had been cut earlier in the week . Not sure what the farmer was doing but he made a bumpy mess in the pond field . Took the deer to my son's home and he and his brother skinned it and cut it up . I will probably go back out Monday or Wednesday depending on the weather Almost forgot , it was 36 degrees at 6 am ..........

I have a Ranging Range Finder put away somewhere . Not the model shown above . The way it works is by parallax ( I think ) . you line up the object you want to range . You will see a double image . You move the dial until the images overlap and look at the number which tells you the distance . I think it ranges out to 75 yards .

I bought a Milwaukee heated jacket a couple years ago . It works fairly well for a long sit but that requires extra batteries . The batteries cost around $35 each . I have 3 batteries counting the one that came with the jacket . It has hand warmers but if that is turned on it eats up a lot of the battery . Less expensive to buy wool clothing and dress in layers . Carry some of the clothing with you and put it on when you get to your stand . If you are fully dressed walking to your stand you are likely to work up a sweat and when that stops , you will get cold real fast !

Help ! Kolpin Double Rhino Grip holder
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Here is what I ended up doing . The Kolpin Rhino Grips are supposed to be mounted on the round bars but my front and rear baskets cover them up so I had to modify how they are mounted . I could have put the grips on the back but want them in front where I can see the bow when I am carrying it . -

Tried West Bloomfield Road this am . Was in my stand by 6:30 . Sat back , relaxed and watched the sun come up . At 7 , I saw something out in the middle of the field and grabbed the binos . It was a red fox mousing . I was amazed at how high he would jump . Saw another red fox on the edge of the field . No deer . Got out of the stand at 11 , changed my clothes and drove to Victor . Used the john at WalMart and did some shopping . They had a bunch of weed trimmer stuff on sale for $1 . Bought a couple reels of trimmer line for $1 each . They had bulbs for Stinger Bug Zappers for $1 . I also bought two 8" chainsaw chains for $1 each . Back in the stand at 3 pm and stayed until 6:30 . Wasn't seeing anything until I got down from the stand . 2 bucks and 3 doe were at the far end of the field . The beans were brown so the deer weren't eating the tops . I bet they had been in the corn fields south of this area .

Congrats on your deer . Sorry for your loss and hope the rest of your family is well .

I know I carry some un-needed items in my backpack but I would rather have them with me than to hike a mile back to the car to get them .

Help ! Kolpin Double Rhino Grip holder
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
The Kolpin bow holder is supposed to mount on the tubing on an ATV . I have front and rear baskets so I had to modify how I could mount it . Looks like it is going to work okay . I won't have to strap the big bow case now . -
I weighed my backpack and it weighs 13 1/2 pounds . Glad I am such a healthy physical specimen at 75 !
-
When I used one of those , I had to go to a small bow shop to buy one as the Big Box stores didn't carry the tubing . They sell it by the foot and you can expect to get ripped off for cost . I got rid of mine as I could hear the tube noise when I shot and you can expect the tubing to break at the worst time . Just an opinion .

Tonsils and adenoids ? It seemed like when I was a kid , that was done around the age of 7 years old as standard procedure .
