  1. Belo -- I have a Winchester 12 ga that I bought in 1965 . It has the trigger guard safety that makes a noticeable click then taking the safety off . I use my thumb and finger to move it and that pretty much silences it .
  2. The guy said it had well over 40 ticks on it and he didn't want them in his garage as they can be dormant for over a year before they need another host . I should have asked him to take pics .
  3. While I was in my stand this afternoon I got a call from a friend . He said he had shot a doe , field dressed it and took it home . He felt something , looked at his hand and saw a bug and realized it was a tick . He flicked it off and realized it was a tick and checked out the deer close . He told me that there was at least 40 of them on the deer and he saw a couple that were huge . He wanted to know what to do with the deer and I wasn't sure . I think I would have used a couple of 3mil bags and double bagged that deer and put it in the garbage . I told him to check his hunting clothes and anything else he came in contact with and to buy some Permethrin to use in the future . I have been lucky enough to have never seen any ticks on a deer . How would you dispose of a Tick infested deer ?
  4. Was in my stand by 6:30 after placing a couple of scent wicks . The only sighting was a small buck and a button buck between 7 and 8 am . Nothing after that . Got down from the stand and walked up the hill to my car . Had some coffee and a couple of granola bars . Moved to my old stand along the trail with my back to the gulley . Sat there until 4 pm and figured I had enough of nothing for one day and left . As i took my release off , the nut that holds the trigger arm fell off . What the heck ! What else could go wrong ? I found out later when I got to the car that I had left my seat pad on the stand . I wasn't about to go back and get it . I took my backup release out of my backpack in case an opportunity arose while climbing the hill . Stopped off at the hardware store on the way home and bought a replacement nut ..... M5 ..... 65 cents . Fixed the broken release .
  5. Heading out for South Bristol in a few minutes to hunt with 2 of my sons . Looks a bit nippy at 36 degrees and a 5 mph south wind . Hope the deer are moving !
  6. Congrats ! Nice going ................
  7. Ready to get back at it tomorrow after being in the Poconos for a week . I had told my wife that I would take her someplace after having bow hunted for 4 weeks and she picked the Poconos . Made a trip to Cabelas in Hamburg , Pa and got out of there with only spending $70 on hunting stuff . Saw a lot of dead deer on Rt 81 on the way home . Going to be heading to South Bristol tomorrow am and hunt with 2 of my sons . Saw a lot of deer on a golf course while near Lake Harmony . On our way back home we swung over to my son's house in Honeoye Falls . He was in the process of unloading a doe he shot with a borrowed cross bow on RT 251 in Mendon . Anxious to get back out there .
  8. Awesome job Grow ! Help the needy .
  9. What's so new ? Manufacturers started out with bows that had 2 wheels . They went on to make 1 cam and 2 cam bows . Now a manufacturer is once again making 2 wheel bows . This is innovation ? Enlighten me please !
  10. Beautiful deer ........ pics are toooooooo big .

    Funny

What the heck ..... was she supposed to chase the hitter down and get permission . Some laws are stupid but you gotta cover your butt .
  12. I made something similar to this several years ago . Bought a couple of 4' long tomato stakes that had a pointed end , a bolt , washers , wing nut and some mole skin . http://www.varmintal.com/abifu.htm
  13. Nice story . Excellant buck .
  14. He looks like a nice size healthy deer though .
  15. Many of the corn fields have been cut and many of the sow bean fields have been harvested . The geese have already partied in the cut corn fields .
  16. I put the String Loop material on 2 bows and that works fine . It's not hard to tie them on but get the stiffer loop material . Tou still get wear and tear on the serving on the string from nocking the arrow .
  17. Anyone use a metal string loop ? I used one a few years ago and thought it was just the thing . Works great . It makes a ka-zing noise when you shoot . I don't know if the deer can hear it but I can . Replaced it with a String loop and the only problem I have with that is ..... it allows for wear on the string where you nock the arrow . I must have at least 3 of those metal string loops in my shop .
  18. The deer will hear the snap long before the arrow gets there !
  19. It'spretty easy . You need to cut your arrows to length or have them cut for you . You need a decent fletching jig .... the better ones are a bit pricy like Bitzinberger $100+ (sp) but Bohning makes one for about $35 and it works quite well . Once you have invested in the gear , you are set for many years of fletching . Check out the DIY forum for an arrow saw / cutoff .
  20. Asterino won more counties than Prince Andy but still lost . Hoping the carpet bagger ... Louise Slaughter loses ... write in ballots need to be counted in a close race .
  21. I forget where I put something when looking all over . I usually find it when I am looking for something else . I put things in a "safe" place and cannot find them . Damn !
