Passed on an am hunt due to the forecast . Heading for Geneseo in about an hour . Rain forecasted a 1 pm and then again at 4 pm . I hope that Pod Blind doesn't leak . I wanted sooooo bad to go to South Bristol tomorrow but I have a Great Grandson being Baptized and if I went hunting I would never hear the end of it . I asked my grand daughter , " who the heck has a baby baptized during hunting season" ? She didn't like that .

Morals/ ethics question: Does with fawns

Get those deer out of my garage ! -
Anytime I shop there I do the customer survey . Once that is done you can print out a $10 off a $50 purchase . The store is only 12 miles from me and I find their gear just fine .

Apparently the deer like the trim job I did down by my Pod Blind ............

Stopped at DICKs in Webster today to spend some money . They had a pretty good assortment of ammo . I spotted some Hornaday American Whitetail 117 gr InterLock 25-06 ammo for $21.99 a box . It's the cheapest I have ever seen this priced at . I bought 2 boxes and a trail cam lock box and used a $10 off coupon . It's a rarity to see much of any 25-05 ammo anyplace and when I do , it's usually expensive . Oh yeah , don't forget there is a $10 off a $25 purchase at DICKs in the NYS Hunting Regs booklet on page 7 .

Morals/ ethics question: Does with fawns

And ...... what makes a person think that because they don't see a fawn with a doe that it's okay to shoot the doe . The fawn could be several yards off . Shoot'em ! -
Nice job .... congrats to her .

As I was sitting in a stand with the hope of having a deer pass by , a hawk flew and landed on a limb less than 8 yards from me . It looked around and flew off . I saw it a couple more times after that . It must have been looking for Brunch . I reached for my camera but it was gone in a flash .

Went to a friend's property in Walworth this am . Sat from 6:30 until 10 am and saw nothing . Checked my cams while I was there . Most sightings have been at dark hours so it's not such a great spot but it was only a 10 mile drive and I can't shoot anything from here .

I'm not in as I figured being part of the staff I probably shouldn't be entered . Then again , I got skunked last year .

Should I hunt the same stand tomorrow afternoon?
fasteddie replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
If you didn't get busted and the wind is right , use the same stand . -
Happy Birthday Joe ..... pay attention in school !

The stand is about 400 yards south from the road by a corn field , 50 yards North of the neighboring fence line and the land owner owns both properties eat and west of the hedge row that the stand is located on . There are several directions where the culprit could approach . My son suggested calling the cops but someone told him that if it became too much of a hassle for the land owner , he might lose his hunting rights . So now my sons are considering using climbers there .
-
The stands are well within the land owner's boundaries and his field that gets farmed as well as the huge lot where equipment gets stored so there is no question as a property dispute . Someone is just being an a-hole . Only a couple of Yote hunters have permission to hunt there and they have no reason to mess around as the father has used one of the stands to gun hunt from so it would be a disadvantage for either one to mess things up .

Some low-life has screwed around with my son's ladder stands and removed and took the braces that goes from the ladder to the tree . The person / persons have also put up posted signs with no name on it on property that isn't theirs . My son showed the property owner a map of the area and he confirmed that the stands are on his property where he gave my sons permission to hunt but did not place any posted signs out . About a month ago the braces were removed and tossed on the ground . Whoever is doing the dirty deed doesn't have permission to hunt the property . I had made a suggestion to my son about placing a Black-Out camera facing the stand and put it high enough where it would be hard to reach and hidden but that never happened . He also had 2 ladder stands stolen last year

Looks nice and comfy ........ -
Bummer . Left home at 5 am and was in my stand by 6:15 . Saw 3 doe at a bit over 100 yards making their way through a soybean field . Took a break at 11 am and got something to eat / drink and went to town to use a John . I was in my Pod Blind by 1 pm and stayed until 6 pm without seeing anything . Had about a 1/2 walk back to my vehicle and nothing in sight . Pulled cards from 3 trail cams to check out .

Oct 1 -- Opening day . Yeeeehaaaaaaaa ! Heading for Geneseo in a few minutes . I plan to use a permanent stand in the am rather than spook everything on the way to the stand by the pond . I can use that for an afternoon stand . Hoping to see some deer action whether I get a shot or not . The sight of the 1st deer I see gets the heart pumping with the hopes that it will come near enough to get a shot . It would be sweet to fill a tag on opening day !

I do the same . It prevents you from pulling the trigger prematurely . I shudder when I see someone in a Bow Shop or DICKs pull back on a bowstring and i'm thinking , "don't let go" .

I have been shooting 30 -50 arrows a night at least 5 days a week for the past month . Less days earlier months . I practice from a 10' high treestand in the back yard at 4 different targets at 20 and 30 yards . Not everyone needs this but I find it enjoyable and it pays off .
-
I am with Doc on the spot targets . Once the groups tighten up , shoot individual arrows at the spot targets . I am also with Jesse on the part that if someone hasn't practiced they shouldn't be out hunting . That's how accidents happen . It's BS to pick up a bow that you haven't shot a few days before season opens and go hunting . You should have been at it months ago . give someone tips 5 days before season starts . My tip would be don't bow hunt until next season . Not everyone can become proficient in a weeks time . Buy a crossbow . Takes bout 1/2 hour to become proficient according to a Horton Rep in an interview 4-5 years ago .

I assume you are kidding but I recall a couple years ago being in the Geneseo walMart and a guy was buying some 20 ga and 12 ga slugs because he was borrowing a friend's shotgun and didn't know was ga it was . Gun season opened the following day .
