  1. One of those Bucket Trucks would make a nice stand ............
  2. Correction ,,,,, I said Webster but it's just across the line and in Penfield . I still consider it Webster . Here are the standard conditions for the Deer Damage Permits .
  3. The farmer is starting me out with one permit . If all goes well , I will get more . From the sheet I saw , he probably has at least 15 shooters . Just trying to help the farming community . I drove out to the properties a while ago to see what they look like . Pretty muddy and you have to walk quite a ways to get back to any tree line and far enough away from any dwellings at one spot . Can't park or drive in the fields where I 1st looked . At another spot , I drove about 50 yards off the road into an opening in a bean field and saw a doe approximately 120 yards out feeding . She glanced up at me took about 10 steps in my direction and went back to feeding . So , that area looks promising .
  4. Culver Creek - I couldn't watch the full 5 minutes and went back to View New Content ...........
  5. I prefer a Treestand while bow hunting to give me more visibility and hope that any of my scent would dissipate by the time it gets to ground level . I think a stand helps for close up hunting . When gun hunting , I prefer a blind to be out of the cold wind , rain and snow .
  6. I get to my stand before sunrise . I will stay until at least noon . I may take an hour break , change stands and stay until almost dark . I have a 50+ mile drive home so I don't hunt the next day . I'm old and need the sleep time .
  7. Seriously , I was going to buy a pair . I have $100 in gift cards for TCS and they have $15 off the boots . The sale ends today . Here is what I found (http://beefmagazine.com/blog/muck-boots-fires-aggies-facebook)
  8. Gee , apparently everything that is on the Internet isn't true .
  9. Doc , I have a NEF 25-06 single shot to take deer . I have never hunted the properties . I don't want to go in blind without not knowing what the surroundings are . The farmer gave me an 11"X17" Satellite map and marked off the fields he wants hunted . I plan to at least check out the areas in the next couple of days .
  10. Yes , I am cutting it up . It has to be done quickly in this weather . I have been doing my own butchering for several years . The processors would most likely be closed in the evening ( after 5 or 6 pm ) and I wouldn't want to wait until morning . It would probably take me longer to drag the deer than driving the 10 miles to home . I have an electric hoist in the garage and it doesn't take long to skin and cut up the deer . Once the meat is in the fridge , the processing doesn't have to be that fast ( within a reasonable time ) . I'll keep an eye on the weather and look for a cooler am or pm day to do any shooting but I realize the farmer wants some quick results . It is amazing how fast the flies can get to a dead animal . They can get to a dead animal before you can so everything has to be done rather quickly . .
  11. What's to know . There is a sheet that must be signed by the Agent and the Permittee . It explains what has to be done and what is legal . If the rules / regulations are not followed with all conditions it could result denial of future permits and may be considered violations of State and local laws . Your little remark about blasting them at night with a light pretty much set me off . Even though permit holders are allowed to take the deer 1/2 hour before sunrise and up to 10 pm , I don't hunt in the dark .
  12. Grow --- I have a single permit that allows me to take one anterless deer . If I do well , he has more to give out . The property is only about 10 miles from my home . I am not crazy about doing the shooting in the summer but , if it isn't me , it would be someone else . It might be an opportunity to hunt closer to home during regular season once I fill a tag or two . .............
  13. I guess I should have expected this from someone . I have taken deer in the past with the Damage permits in Mendon but I don't hunt at dark with a spotlight even though it is legal . It doesn't make sense that a person would be allowed to take deer up to 11pm . I sure wouldn't want to hear someone shooting when it's dark out . He has several guys shooting deer on the properties . The guy owns / farms several hundred acres and has a lot of bean crops , christmas trees , etc .. I havn't know the farmer for very long and I don't doubt that he has people hunting his land during Regular Seasons . By the way --- the land isn't fenced in either ............
  14. Got a call last night from a farmer in Webster . I was talking to him last spring and he asked me if I was interested in using a Damage wildlife Permit on his property . I told him that I was interested so I stopped by this am and picked one up . I had to sign some papers and he showed me a map of the properties involved . I was hesitant at 1st but figured if I get my foot in the door , I just might be able to Bow or Gun hunt his property .
  15. Because he is computer savvy and can make changes and do fixes on the site ...............
  16. Farmers can't get into some fields and tend their crops as the fields are too wet for heavy equipment . May cause food prices to go up . Some crops will probably suffer from mold .
  17. My youngest son went to Traditions Archery in Henrietta and didn't like it . My son works in Henrietta but wouldn't shop at Traditions . He went to Heritage Archery in Phelps and bought a Matthews bow with all the trimmings . He likes their service and was quite happy with them . Some of the small shops have closed up which is quite a shame . I had taken one of my bows to Trophy Taker Archery . Dave did a great job and was reasonably priced with his work . He closed shop . I went to a bow shop in Williamson and would never go back there again ! Has anyone had any experience with the Bow Shop in Bloomfield ?
  18. I used to shoot starling and pigeons with a BB gun . When I was 12 I shot woodchucks with a 22 that i put a makeshift rear sight on ( uncle had run over my Dad's 22 - cracked the stock and broke the site ) . Bought a used Marlin 22 lever action from Hughs Sporting Goods Store in Dansville when I turned 14 for $35 and I still have it .Walked all over Groveland Hill shooting chucks for farmers .I got out of the Marine Corps in '63 and my father-in-law got me started with deer hunting in !965 . Hunted with him for a few years and he quit . I stopped hunting for about 10 years and then my sister-in-law asked if I wanted to hunt on her property in Geneseo . Got back into deer hunting . I had always wanted a bow . I started bow hunting about 1994 when I was 53 and still prefer bow hunting over gun hunting . I hunt alone alot and sometimes with 2 of my sons .
  19. Here you go ......... http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/3-red-rock-5-gal-solar-sun-showers?a=1727234
  20. You need to paint the bucket black and place it where it gets a lot of sun so the water will warm up .
  21. John , it's too easy to not click on posts that we know are political . And ....... if you click on View New Topic , it has a series of most recent posts but ..... some members need something to bitch about or they won't be happy . TFB !
