Welcome to Hunting NY !

I paid big bucks for my Lifetime hunting license . They offered it to us old farts a few years ago for $50 ....... that's right fifty dollars . It was a great investment !

If the deer are on a trail , I pull them off to the side a bit and leave the gut pile there after field dressing . The pile is usually gone in a day or two . I shot a doe that was standing in a gut pile that my son left the day before in South Bristol . I hunted with a crew in Fishers one day and the landowner had a rule that any guts had to be hauled away . The guy that put the hunt together shot a buck and put the guts in a garbage bag . The landowner has a dog that wanders and puked up some guts he ate one time . You hunt an area , you follow the owner's rules . What was funny was a guy took a break and had a couple slices of pizza with him . He tossed the crusts and the dog got them . The landowner came looking for the pizza eater ............

I have a 10' high stand in the back yard that I practice from .

I wouldn't have thought that possible . Better to have it happen while waxing instead of when a shooter is in front of you .

Curious ---- Do the Amish swear when they hit their thumb with a hammer ?

I had some in my attic that the exterminator didn't kill . He was leaving for the weekend and left me to take care of the problem . I had to do something as the siding crew was working on the house . I had a couple cans of Flea Bombs in the cupboard . I duct taped one to an extension pole , popped the button and pushed it in the corner by the nest . The next day there was just a few of them flying so late that afternoon , I went back to the attic ,pulled the insulation back with the pole and used the other can . No more bees . Depending on your shed size , the flea bombs might work .

You could also go to GOOGLE Earth and get a map of the area . Then walk the area and look for tracks in and out of the wooded spots . Mark those on your map . It might give you an idea of where to expect to see the deer . Like 4 Seasons said , set up a camera and get an idea of what is there and also ask the farmer where he is seeing them . Farmers are out all day long and see things that we wouldn't unless we were there several hours .

Here is the cutoff saw video I made a few years ago . As you can imagine it is very unprofessional .

Gee Doc , you are soooooo optimistic !!!

I have cut several of my own arrows as well as for others with the home made saw . My youngest son shoots Easton FMJ's and it cut them with ease . I also use an Arrow Squaring Device made by G5 .

Nice , I have never gotten a bear on any cam but my son did in Italy Vallet south of Potter . Nice pics .

Sounds like a great plan ! -
I bought the mini chop saw at Harbor Freight a few years ago and made one . I removed the blade that came with it and added an abrasive blade to the saw .

One of those Bucket Trucks would make a nice stand ............

Correction ,,,,, I said Webster but it's just across the line and in Penfield . I still consider it Webster . Here are the standard conditions for the Deer Damage Permits .

The farmer is starting me out with one permit . If all goes well , I will get more . From the sheet I saw , he probably has at least 15 shooters . Just trying to help the farming community . I drove out to the properties a while ago to see what they look like . Pretty muddy and you have to walk quite a ways to get back to any tree line and far enough away from any dwellings at one spot . Can't park or drive in the fields where I 1st looked . At another spot , I drove about 50 yards off the road into an opening in a bean field and saw a doe approximately 120 yards out feeding . She glanced up at me took about 10 steps in my direction and went back to feeding . So , that area looks promising .

I prefer a Treestand while bow hunting to give me more visibility and hope that any of my scent would dissipate by the time it gets to ground level . I think a stand helps for close up hunting . When gun hunting , I prefer a blind to be out of the cold wind , rain and snow .

I get to my stand before sunrise . I will stay until at least noon . I may take an hour break , change stands and stay until almost dark . I have a 50+ mile drive home so I don't hunt the next day . I'm old and need the sleep time .
