Any trees are too small and too open for a chain-on or ladder stand . I plan to put an Ameristep Quad-Pod on the pond bank next to some high bushes so I can see into the area east of the pond and overlook the horse trail . If I get it up early enough , the deer should get used to it ............

Doc , there are horse farms all over the place in Geneseo . Sometimes a rider can almost ride right up to a deer on horseback without spooking the deer .
-
When I magnified the pic , the deer was on it's hind legs and another deer was there . No tree for it to be eating from . That area is soggy all year as it hardly ever dries up . When you walk around there , it's so squishy that it can pull your boots off . I used to hunt the woods that is north of there but it is often ankle deep back there .

I have a stand across the creek to the left of where the deer are . Because the bank drops off , I couldn't put the stand facing north or south so it faces west to a pasture lot . If a deer crossed the pasture , I wouldn't be able to draw the bow without hitting my arm on the tree so I put a chain-on stand about 4 feet above the seat of the ladder stand facing north . The deer walk right up to the camera .

I have set the date and time on this camera several times . It doesn't seem to hold the date /time . The pics were taken mid April until today .

If the crossbow is considered archery , why isn't there an archery safety class ?

What ? The guys are just out riding ATVs and a deer happened to be out in the open . Havn't you ever had that happen ? They aren't chasing down any deer . How would the guy know the deer was sick or injured until he got close . He is riding through a field of huge round hay bales and might not have noticed the deer until he got close .

There was an article in today's D&C paper about honey bees not surviving the long cold winter . It stated that dandelions would help the surviving bees to get healthy as they have a lot of pollen .

I will have to check out a field at my sister in laws if I get down to Geneseo this coming week . The field she leases to a farmer was loaded with them last year . They really sprouted after he took up the soy beans .

Ground Blind for bowhunting
fasteddie replied to THHuntNY's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Definitely a Hub Blind . Most of them are 60" X 60" so you can draw the bow without having to stick the arrow out of a window and get busted . -
You need a gun , ammo , hunting clothes , license , hunter safety class , place to hunt , processing fees , vehicle to transport the animal , etc .. The 2nd year some of those costs would be eliminated . I hunt several days during bow and gun season and had a couple bad years when I didn't fill tags . But , I got to enjoy the company of my sons while doing that and got to enjoy the outdoors . It depends on what your expectations are ..........

I havn't Spring Turkey hunted in a few years due to the Black Flies . I seem to be a magnet for these things . I have tried all brands of repellants and none seem to work for me .

I am not interested enough in crossbows to call about the recall . I don't support crossbows but I don't fight against them either . In the article I believe it stated there was "one" incident reported about a crossbow firing unexpectatly and now ther is a recall . Did they test that bow involved or just take the guy's word for it ? "Excalibur has received one report of the crossbow firing unexpectedly. No injuries have been reported."
-
I wonder if it had a broken leg .....

I deleted the SPAM ad ...................

Many many years ago , there was a movie named "The Hustler" with Paul Neuman as Fast Eddie Felson as a pool hall hustler . One of the guys at work started calling me Fast Eddie and it caught on . Guys I hadn't seen in 20+ years would hollar across the room / parking lot , etc Hey , fast eddie so I took it as a user name . ( I probably should remove the "s" from fast )
