  1. You might want to offer the cop who hunts an opportunity to hunt your property . Nothing like having your place patrolled !
  2. If I had the DEC's phone # I would have called it in so I am glad it turned out the way it did . It's easy to jump to conclusions when you don't know all the facts .
  3. That is a real neat story . Thanks for posting !
  4. I arrived at the field just before 2 pm and headed for the stand . Saw a gut pile about 50 yards north of the stand . As I got closer to the stand I noticed a dead deer laying about 30 yards from it . I walked over and saw that it was 3 dead deer and was pissed . I thought how could anyone kill 3 deer and leave them laying like that . I got into the stand and sat until 4:30 and was fuming all the time . As I walked back to my vehicle , a SUV pulled into the field and a couple guys got out . The young guy asked me if I was angry . I asked him if he meant about the dead deer . He said yes and I told him I was real pissed . To shorten the story , the dead deer were road kill that he gathered up to use as coyote bait . The father said they had been hunting that property for about 15 years and the yotes moved in a few years ago and were affecting the deer hunting . The son is a member of the NYS Predator's Association . They showed me pics of yotes that they had killed on the property . The son was very apologetic about messing up the hunting but didn't know anyone else was still hunting there . I told him that I felt much better knowing it was road kill and not just some wanton waste !
  5. I have a NEF 25-06 single shot and like it . The 25.05 is a flat shooting cartridge but rather pricy . I am going to have to do reloads because of that . You might want to consider a 270 bolt action . Two of my sons have the Browning 270 cal and love them . The ammo price is the only thing I don't like about the 25-06 .
  6. The deer have only had a couple days to settle down since regular gun season but I am going to give Mendon another try this afternoon . Looks like we are having a heat wave as it is almost 40 degrees outside .
  7. I have walked a lot of woods, fields and gullies in 46 years of deer hunting and have only come across 4 dead deer .................
  8. Is the guy in the pic with the "hands free" phone the one being discussed ?
  9. I know a guy who left his lights up all year . His wife kept asking him to take them down with no luck . She turned them on one evening in June . He took them down the next day . ......... Don't mess with women !
  10. I had a doe cross the road ahead of me about 1/2 mile before I made my turn into the lane to park .The thermometer read 24 degrees when I got into my blind at 6:10 am . I sat there until 10:30 after seeing nothing and walked to the woods . There are all kinds of trails through the high grass and thick stuff and a few new tracks . Walking the pond field was crunchy as the water just lays there and it's the same in the woods . Nuttin ! I walked to my vehicle , changed clothes and drove to the village to get something to eat and use the john . Got back to the property , changed into hunting clothes and walked along the gulley to see if any deer were in there for shelter . Walked back to the blind and sat until 4:30 . My SIL said that when she goes out at night to bring the horses in , she sees deer . There were plenty romping around during bow season but out of range . I heard over 30 shots in the am . The 1st was a 5 shot group at 7:19 and later there was an 8 shot barage ( must have been 2 shooters) . Shots here and there afterwards . Most of the shooting was north of my SIL's woods . It took me a while to thaw out on the way home .
  11. Get yer butt off my property boy ! You find out who owns the property and get permission or stay off ..........
  12. It takes that many chipmunk hides just to make a vest !
  13. It's right under your name by the Login / Logout
  14. And .................. I thought this thread had died off . Too early in the morning for popcorn .
  15. Thanks .........that's a handy link
  16. The summer they built the tract Homes behind us , I set out rat traps and caught 23 chipmonks . I snipped off their tails and pinned them up in the garage . One of my sons said he was glad I didn't do that with the woodchucks .
  17. I know the one you are talking about but couldn't find it in any of my archives .
  18. I usually sit from 6 -11 am . Go get something to eat and drink and go back a couple hours later . The 2 spots I have are both swampy so you really can't walk around too much . On the north end of my SIL's property her north overgrown field and woods are under water . I usually get beck into the stand around 1:30 and stay until dark . It's a 100 mile round trip drive so I have to put my time in ...............
  19. Welcome to Hunting NY Nix56
  20. Welcome to Hunting NY Matt ...........
  21. I would have thought that buck could have kicked the crap out of 2 yotes ! Surprised it was caught on a trail cam .
  22. Hi Sweetheart, I am sorry about getting into an argument about putting up the Christmas lights. I guess that sometimes I feel like you are pushing me too hard when you want something. I realize that I was wrong and I am apologizing for being such a hard-headed guy. All I want is for you to be happy and be able to enjoy the holiday season. Nothing brightens the Christmas spirit like Christmas lights! I took the time to hang the lights for you today and now I will be off to go hunting . Again, I am very sorry for the way I acted yesterday. I'll be home later. Love you……
