Ny feral hogs in the national news

I couldn't find the article on the D&C site but there was one in today's paper about Feral Hogs . "NY trapped and removed 44 feral swine in Cortland and Onondaga counties in 2008 & 2009 but that effort ended when the stste's budget got tight .Now authorities are working to build public awareness of the problem and encourage people to report sightings as well as urging hunters to shoot them any time of the year ." -
Sounds like you hit the JackPot . Don't dump the GM any time soon !

Thanks everyone . We had about 70 people show up . Had a guy from Webster come over and set up a 20 X 40 tent awning as rain was forecasted for all day . My wife ordered chicken and pulled pork plus corn bread from the "Bad To The Bone" restaurant in Williamson . We had plenty of bottled water , pop , coffee and beer so no one went hungry or thirsty . It was a great party !

I have shot several deer during gun season after 9:30 am when hunters got up to pee , go to their vehicle to get coffee or just to move around . A lot less hunters now .

I have a 1 1/2 X 4 1/2 Bushnell shotgun scope on my NEF Huntsman and it works fine for me . I don't plan on shooting over 150 yards with the inline . I bought the scope used ( looked new ) at the Avon Gun Shop . Even though it's a small shop , they don't mark things way up like others do .

Thanks guys . I turned 70 today but don't feel any older that yesterday . We have about 70 people that will be showing up today and the guy with the tent should be here shortly . My wife likes to do things up big . Either tomorrow or Wednesday I will go get my FREE Archery and Muzzle Loader tags .........

I have been shooting the Rage 2 blades for about 4 years . Never heard of the scotch tape bit . The Rage 2's work for me so i'm not gonna fix something that isn't broke . Give it a try and let us know how they work .

I didn't move the blind . My SIL said she hadn't seen those bucks on the property before . I don't think doe like the doe decoys and the bucks seemed to be hot on the trail of a couple of those doe so they never paid any attention to it . I sometimes have considered putting a decoy maybe 70 - 100 yards away to see if the doe would pass between the decoy and my blind . Just about that time a buck would probably hit it !

I took this video a couple years ago late in the bow season . I was sitting in a tent blind behind an old gate that had some good cover . It was overlooking my SIL's lower pasture lot . It was cccccccccold out !!!

Come to think of it I believe the HSS has the safety strap sewed in 3 spots so it can rip , rip , rip and break the fall without jarring the heck out of a person . My preference is to have just enough slack so I can sit down without any strap tension .

I recall reading an article several years ago called "Hunting The T's" . It said Ten , Twelve , Two and Three were some of the best times to see buck movement . The writer based it on his sightings .

I will go with Safety over putting slack in the strap . I'd rather not be able to take the shot than snap my back from a sudden jolt . Then again , if you aren't putting too much slack in the strap , you would probably be okay . No criticism intended ---- just an opinion .

Has anyone tried this deer attractant ? I'm not sure if it is an artificial scent or not but I happened to see it in a DICK's flyer .

I know it won't help you for bow season but you might be able to get some tags for gun season . I have been lucky with the tags over the years . Just a good deer populated area . -

I saw where some stores had barrel condoms to slip over the barrel and were a bit pricey . I take a surgical gloves and cut the fingers off so they are about 1 1/4" long . Slip the cutoff on a finger and roll it up so it looks like a mini condom . Then slip it over the barrel to keep dirt & debries out . It will come off when you shoot your ML . I keep a couple extra with my possibles .

Don't forget to wax your bowstring often . It will last longer . Not only wax it but occasionly remove the old wax . I take a 12" piece of dental floss and wrap it around the string . Hold the bow tight between your legs and pull the floss with both hands . You should be able to squeeze out the old wax with dirt / grit . Then rewax the string . I tie loops in the dental floss ends and slip pencils in the loops so I can pull better . Just an idea !

What the Legislatures often do is put a Bill like the above with another bill that folks want / lump them together and then vote on it . That's how they slip some through !
