I care zero about personality and PC bullshit, in the end it is all about results and what he gets done. Ending illegal immigration, cutting taxes, supreme court judges, jobs-economy, border security, strong military, backing law enforcement and enforcing "ALL" of this country's laws, NRA friend and member and pro gun and hunting, and putting an end to other countries around the world sticking it to us. So far so good from where I sit. -
My enthusiasm for hunting this year is well not very enthusiastic
airedale replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
I think it is just natural that many times an activity if done a lot will lose some of it's shine because of familiarity. When I was a kid and had the opportunity to eat all the ice cream I wanted I could have put a serious dent in one of those old half gallon boxes. Last evening the wife and I stopped at an ice cream shop and I had a small bowl of really good store made butter pecan and that small bowl was all I wanted, I still love ice cream but like hunting these days I just do not need so much of it. Age also becomes a limiting factor at some point, when you get old you just can not do things physically that you did when young. Kind of an ebb and flow thing with me these days, I will say a new gun and cartridge will sometimes get me fired up to make a kill along with some hunting opportunity that I have not tried or had much experience with. Like Pygmy I still enjoy an awful lot the early season fall days in a good squirrel woods with a tack driving 22 rifle and think I always will. Al -
The Wife years ago gave me a Wenger Swiss Army gift set consisting of a small pen knife and a Watch for my birthday, lost the Watch while training some Coondogs and never knew it at the time. Five years later Son was in the area where it was lost and happened to see a glint in the leaves and found it. The leather strap was roached, I put a new battery in it and it still worked. It was officially retired. The knife sits here in my computer desk and gets used all the time. Al

Today we have quality compact multi tools like a Leatherman or Gerber which can literally be a hand held complete tool box, they can save the day when certain situations arise. To keep on my body I still prefer when hunting or just taking a hike a good old authentic Swiss Army knife specifically the compact fieldmaster which is light, it has the essential tools and is a real in the pocket ease of carry knife-tool. While I like and own several large multi tools I find them a bit bulky to carry around constantly. For the most part they stay in my vehicle's glove compartment, gun case, fishing tackle box or gear bag at camp and are available if some serious fixing is needed. Al

This Honda is the tenth pickup truck I have owned in my lifetime. I have had a cross section of most truck styles and makes through the years from little ones to pretty big ones and coming away with personal preferences for my actual needs. I do like four or all wheel drive for winter driving and for some back-gravel road use getting to hunting and fishing spots. I do not plan on driving the Baja 1000 or doing any rock climbing or monster truck rallies. No big camper or heavy boat to tow, just a dump-equipment trailer that is never loaded near the 5000 lb limit the Honda has for towing. The Ridgeline's 1600 lb weight capacity is good enough for the occasional trip to the feed and home stores. The Honda is really a combination of my four favorite pickups, A Toyota Hilux, An extended cab Chevy S10, A Ford Ranchero and a Jeep J10 with quadra trac full time 4wd. Loved the little Toyota and S10 trucks for driving, handling and maneuverability, 99% of the time they could carry anything I needed them to haul. The Ranchero was like driving a luxury car because it was car based, but was not good off road and could only haul 800 lbs, some air shocks upped the weight some and it earned it's keep. The Jeep was my favorite full size, it drove really nice and could go just about anywhere and I liked the Quadra trac full time four wheel drive.

Well after 14 years of aggravation of owning a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 I decided it was time to get a replacement. I have been studing and looking over what has been available for several years and finally made up my mind that I was going with the Honda Ridgeline. Was bummed out when they stopped producing them in 2014 and happy when they did a bit of a redesign in 2017 and brought them back. It is the only truck with a unibody and many traditionalists in the truck world scoff at it but for me it will do everything I need a truck to do. And after dealing with that Dodge for so long this Honda makes me feel like I have died and gone to Heaven. Below are pics the dealer took, she is a slightly used 2017 with 10000 miles, took delivery last Friday. Al

As the old saying goes "God Created Man & Woman", be they a proverbial "98 pound weakling" or an "Andre the Giant" "Colt, S&W, Ruger, Glock, Sig, Beretta", etc etc makes them all equal! Al

New stock - ugly or nice?

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but that aside I would say that rifle has a lot going for it and all the makings of be a real shooter. Al -
Handgun holsters. Who uses what?
airedale replied to Bionic's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The Kakadu Traveler Vest had become one of my favorite ways to carry when in the outdoors, and early season hunting, besides a handgun you have all kinds of room for ammo, GPS, dog tracking equipment, snacks, compass, matches, binoculars, water bottle, multi tool, etc etc. The Traveler is built using Kakadu's traditional 12oz oilskin for bad weather protection, the rest is the same, 18 pockets. 9 front patch pockets, 2 front zipper storage pockets, 2 side entry welt pockets, 2 internal security pockets, last of all is the 2 CCIS pockets. Brass zip closure, cowhide trim, full cotton lining covers the Kakadu concealed carry internal system (CCIS). Anti-imprint pads are not required as the 13 external front pockets distort any imprinting. -
You can not stop father time, there will come a point when our bodies just eventually get worn out. Fred Bear and Howard Hill did not pick up their bows a couple of months before hunting season and start practicing, they kept in shooting shape by shooting year around. While there is no stopping the aging process it can be slowed down and somewhat minimized. It comes down to keeping your body in decent condition and that means a moderate exercise program a minimum of 20 minutes every single day, more would be even better. Al

I have had pretty good luck with Sierra match bullets both the 52 gr boat tail and the 53 gr flat base, they are hollow point bullets but but not made to expand. They are the most accurate bullets in most of my 22 centerfires and while they do kill well on varmints they are hard and do not blow up making a mess of things. Al

Handgun holsters. Who uses what?
airedale replied to Bionic's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
My carry gun is a Sig Sauer 938 9mm, it is fairly small and could actually be carried in a pocket which I sometimes do depending on the pants I am wearing. While I have several holsters for this gun my favorite is a simple nylon type with a belt clip. I can wear the pistol anywhere on my waist and also slip the whole works in my pocket. I also have a couple of concealed carry vests that I like a lot. Al -
Not too many things I enjoy more than spending an afternoon at one of the many County Fairs we have going on in this state during the summer. "Rural folks" my kind of people! The smells, the food, machinery, the animals, exhibits and attractions make for a fun time. One year me and the wife in the months of July and August and hit the Oswego, Oneida, Jefferson, Otsego, Lewis, Cayuga, Madison, Herkimer and Broome and State fairs, I must have gained 10 pounds eating fair food in that stretch. Personally this looks to me like it can turn into some trouble and ill feelings, from the hired hand's perspective you have already caused him lose one of his hunting spots, granted he should not have been there without having permission. So the farm hand has to retreat to his employer's land where he does have permission and has to hunt there only. Now you are wanting to leave the spot he had to leave and move in on the spot he has left, I would not think he will be too happy about it, something his employer will have to think about if they want to keep their help happy as farm hands these days do not grow on trees. This is the kind of stuff I would avoid like the plague!

The quick attach system is the only way to go, adds so much versatility and ease of changing loader attachments. I have a bucket, a pusher and a power angle plow that make the tractor very useful for a wide variety of chores. Al

The JC Higgins model 30 and 31 were very handsome looking rifles with that woodside walnut stock. When I was a young feller one of my hunting companions had one and I was jealous. If I ever happen to come across a real nice example I would probably buy it. Al

Just starting to do some shooting, been getting the equipment tuned and working properly and the target backstop refurbished and back into shape. Picked up a new old bow to mess around with, an 1990s Oneida Eagle Aeroforce lever type compound I am still learning about it's idiosyncrasies, so far it has been interesting and fun. Al

Years ago much of our hunting information came from the outdoor publications like Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, and Field and Stream to name a few. The artwork used on their covers and advertising was outstanding. Today the outdoor magazines are a shadow of their former selves in both content and art. The evolution of companies can be seen, The old Bair Machine Tool Company which manufactured reloading equipment, turned into Pacific Reloading and now it is Hornady.

That old Sears and Roebuck ad reminds me of those big catalogs they offered and that at one time a person could buy just about anything that was available because they carried it, today they are just about gone, sad! Al

Now you are talking, a beautiful blond model 70 Winchester Super Grade. I have been looking at those myself. Al

They do have a bit of a repulsive look to them with that rat like tail, scruffy fur and the teeth showing perpetual grin on their faces along with a lot of drooling. I would take a few every fall back in my coon hunting days, I was lucky to get a couple of bucks for their hides. I noticed that while my dogs would kill them they showed a lack of enthusiasm, definite displeasure in their smell and or taste and once they were dead wanted no part of them. Al LOL, I am not a possum lover but I do get soft sometimes when I see hard luck. That Possum must of had a death wish to be killed by a car.
