1st afternoon sit of the season, wind is perfect, just need someone to showup! -
I'm sure there is a post in here somewhere but I'll just ask.. Does anyone have a favorite recipe for preparing a deer heart? My sil used to do a stir fry with the heart, but she's no longer in the picture. I have one in the freezer from last year and I saved the heart from my buddies buck the other day. I'm looking for something good and simple, I'm not a gourmet chef by any means. Thanks.

No,but I haven't been out. I hope to start hitting the woods much more this weekend!

Not there to hunt but, yesterday the wife and i couldn't pass up such a beautiful day and rode the motorcycles through the park. I love this park and every time I go there I'm always thinking about coming back to hunt it. I knew several guys that used to get a cabin there for the entire bow season. Sounds like a good time!

Happy Birthday WNY! Hope it's a great day!

Way to go Tacks!! Clarence or Chautaugua? -
Old proverb? "Full moon, hunt at noon"

Awesome job Jay!! Congrats! Now you can relax and pick out a nice buck!

Thus one's for you TF, I made a batch of venison poppers. Then I took the left over venison and jalapeno cream cheese, added bacon bits and broiled it. Yum!

It is done for me, my wife can paint it while I'm hunting!

He's the one with the broken front leg from 3 years ago, I would absolutely love to put him on the ground for a hands on look!

Another card pull, still getting the same bucks. Nice to see they are cruising by during daylight hours and I have a stand set up down wind of this camera!

Nice job! I like shoulder harnesses, the factory straps are not the most comfortable. I have the 2 side bags and the summit front bag on my climber and i never really thought about altering them? Although i don't care for the way the front bag always hits my knees, especially when i really load it up. Now you got me thinking... how can I improve my setup?

I started using Milkweed last season, I still carry the powder in my pack. Not sure which I like better as the milkweed gets caught on branches to easily. Although it's very interesting to watch it as it makes its way through the woods. As for the prep, I am soo far behind this year. But I'm still a 10/15 guy and early bow is really dress rehearsal for me. I look forward to 10/31 through election day. Plus after looking at the weather for 10/1, 80 degrees and storms doesn't trip my trigger!

Not a accurate as some of the shots I've seen here but... The bag shot was the 1st shot in about 2 weeks. 30yds. The block was 1st 2 shots with broadheads. 35yds. I did notice for some reason I was pulling to the right all night.

I should have been there more often than I did as I didn't shoot as good as I was hoping to. Especially as opener is < a week away! I'm glad I was able to throw some BH's down range. Still a great time with good friends. Too bad it got dark so early as we still had lots to talk about. I wanted to start up the discussion of the multi ways to load a 200 lb buck in the back of the truck vs the cargo hitch.

The grommets just tie the sled around the deer, it has a separate rope at front to drag. The straps at the grommets got caught on saplings or other woods stuff and ripped out. Your "burrito" looks like it wraps more around the deer therefore less chance of getting caught on the crap you need to drag it through? i assume?

There has to be a member (possibly Academy member) that has a 12ga semi auto you could borrow for a test shoot and see how she handles it, then you will know before you have to buy her another gun.

TF, I bought one of those Dead Sleds and the only time I used it the grommets ripped out of the plastic material and it came apart. It sucked as it didn't work like I expected. I've since replaced the grommets but I haven't used it since. Half the time it's in my truck and I don't feel like walking back to the truck just to get it.

Mount a couple of wheels up front on the sides of the ladder and once you lift up the ladder with the deer on it, you will be able to roll it right into the truck. Just have to tie it in so it doesn't slide out.

I'm glad you started this thread as I needed a reminder that I need to make myself an assist system for my truck similar to Lawd's. At my age I got all I can do to get myself in and out of the woods and dragging a deer to the truck wears me down let alone trying to wrestle it into the back of my truck. Adrenalin doesn't last as long as it used to! I usually just call a friend (Lawd) to help me! I thought about the tailgate cart but i don't want to expose the deer to any road dust etc. I'm sure it's fine and won't affect the meat but i would rather get the deer into the truck.

Ok here's a close up. And it is a proven killer!
