Thanks, yeah the kids are too cute....have to agree the tractor keeps on impressing me, its a true workhorse....I have done so much with that tractor, just makes alot of jobs easier and have done alot of things around the property that I couldnt do in the past.

Dont know the name, but yeah its very cool. Its like a mini version of my quad. It is small but has lots of engine for its size, believe it or not that thing has 110cc displacement, but thankfully it has a rev limiter and a remote cut off. Wish I had that when I was a kid. My 9 year old is outgrowing it, but still great for my other three.

Its pretty obvious in the pic that they are not driving the ATV. Nice pics NYBowhunter Thanks, the littlke ones are happy just sitting on it.

Thanks, but I'm not worried about the grief. Both of the little ones dont ride, only my two older boys and one at a time and always with a helmet.

Turnip / Broccoli Rabe food plot update
NYBowhunter replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Figured I would start early like 8am to beat the heat, it figures I picked the hottest day of the year. Even starting that early I was sweating bullets while picking up the rocks, Thank God my father drove the tractor and all I had to do was toss them in the bucket. But after the 2nd loader full and the heat I was getting tired. Well I got r' done. Lets just hope now. -
Turnip / Broccoli Rabe food plot update
NYBowhunter replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
My smaller chickory /clover plot was posted with the deer/woodchuck pics I just put up. The larger clover plot was posted with previous pics. Hopefully I'll get some more pics of the plots next time up. -

Very nice, where abouts in NY? -
Was able to get up this weekend and work on the fall food plot, I disked the soil, added about 260 lbs of lime and 50lbs of fertilizer and harrowed that all in the ground...oh almost forgot to mention we took out 3 loader bucket full of rocks...that was the hard part. Then we planted 3/4 of the plot in purple top turnips and 1/4 of the plot in Broccoli Rabe. Thank god on Saturday night it poured, see what happens in couple of weeks. The other two plots of clover and chickory are looking real good, very thick with clover and the mowings every two weeks are keeping them lush and choking out the weeds. Sorry no pictures of the turnip plot just yet.

Last time went up I moved the two cameras, one was set on my smaller clover / chickory plot and the other was set on a trail. I'm not a woodchuck expert, but I would say that is one huge woodchuck that has been enjoying the fruits of my labor. Enjoy the pictures.

Thats real crazy, that spreader sure holds alot. I have a stream that runs through my property that makes getting a spreader of that magnitude to my plots almost impossible. We had to load 3000lbs of pelletized lime using a pull behind trailer with quad and haul it over our bridge to the two plots had to make like 10 trips and then spread by using a shovel. But you know what, I would not change a thing because I love having a stream that runs the entire span of my property. Deer and many critters use the stream, there are small fish, and it flows year round even in the dead of summer, in the spring the water really moves.

Glad to have you here noodle, great words of encouragement. Welcome aboard pal.

Very cool pictures, I'm sure the experience was priceless.

Its unfortunate that all young deer are shot, but you are still very fortunate to see a buck like that hanging around. Hes a shooter in my book, hard to pass that up. Good luck.
-
Nice John, the plots working already. Man, lower that camera...hahaha Great your able to get a lime spreader in there, makes life alot easier.

Very close to you my friend I hunt not far off 23 as well. I hunt in Harpersfield, and worcester. My house is in harpersfield and my hunting land is down the road in worcester and I do small game hunting in Oneonta as well. My family has been hunting in the general area from Grand Gorge to Oneonta for the past 50 years. My father took his first deer (doe) in Grand Gorge in 1965.

Any Snowshoes in Region 4?
NYBowhunter replied to SteveMcD's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I hunt in 4F and we have shot a couple hare through the years, but they are not that plentiful. In region 4 you will have much better luck with cottontails. -
I wont shoot at a deer beyond 25 yards. Most of my kills have been under 20 yards.

yes the PH is extremely low, that would explain why you needed so much lime. Dont be suprised if your plots look decent because I have limed, fertilized and seeded on same days with good success, however like you indicated the optimal way would be to let the lime sit for a month or more. You may have some better success with the brassicas as they can tolerate more of an acidic soil and dont need to wait for the soil to become close to neutrel. Did you use a higher nitrogen content for both the brassica and clover plots? The clovers need a higher nitrogen content their 1st year and then lower every year thereafter as clover will produce their own nitrogen. The brassicas will always need a triple 17 or 15 as they require a higher nitrogen each year. The nitrogen content would be the first number of the three numbers on the fert. bag. How much fettilzer did you put down? I would assume you put down app. 400-500 lbs fert. per acre? Look'in good, start buying those trail camera's.

I hunt in 4F.
