My Trail Camera Pictures (Lake Huntington Area)
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Thats hilarious, just ears. Dont feel bad one time I went to retrieve 1000 pictures most of which were of a single weed I left in front of the camera that set it off everytime the wind blew it. I have since learned to clear around in front of the camera. Yeah lower the camera to waist level on even ground and you will get better pictures of entire deer...not just the ears...LOL. -
15-16feet

A little freaky, but I was more concerned that he would get away so I didnt move a muscle. Besides I was the one with the gun....lol...Did you ever see a closeup of a coyotes teeth?....ouch...would hate to be bit by one.
-
Did you see the picture under one that looks like its sniffing the camera..lol...The picture of that buck under the fawn is a non-typical, which i thought was very rare because I never personally saw one or got a picture of one in the past in NY. That was the only time I got a picture of him, never saw him again.

My Trail Camera Pictures (Lake Huntington Area)

Nice pictures, looks like you found a good spot. From the pictures it looks like you maybe setting the camera's a little too high? -
Very nice looking from what I can see, keep the pics. coming. Best of luck.

No he didnt , I thought he was going to bolt but he just stood there and I let him pass me as I stood motionless and then boom the 300 roared. It seemed as though he was preoccupied looking for something.

Welcome aboard.

How many of your applied and got your DMP's last year?
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I didnt apply, I had no intention to take a doe. I usually have my father and uncle apply in case they wanted to take a doe, however they elected to pass on does as well. -
Way too many factors involved to give any sound advise, usually takes me alot of thinking and scouting to determine a stand and thats with me physically being there. Without seeing the layout I wont even attempt to give advise, sorry. But you cant go wrong with being a couple hundred yards off on a main trail that leads into a feeding area, even better is if you find where couple trails may converge into one that lead into a field/foodplot.

Very nice, when you said cabin I didnt know you meant log cabin.I love log cabins, they blend in much nicer with mother nature.Best of luck.

In my hunting area there are lots of fox and coyote, can sit out on my patio at night and hear packs of them.My property is situated in predominately farmland I have taken two fox and two coyote through the years. I shot one coyote a few years back a huge male that was probably 50lbs or more. The scarey part was I was sitting under a pine tree and he came to my left no more then 10 yards away and stood there and I let him pass me and I dropped him with my 300 mag. I recently read an article in deer and deer hunting (summer2010 issue, title of article was "Rethinking Coyotes" and what was interesting is that a study in 2000-2001 in PA there was actually a difference with deer predation by coyotes/bear in farmland vs. forested. "Only 38% of fawns born in primarly wooded regions survived 9 months. Predation accounted for nearly half of fawn mortality, with coyotes and black bears the major killers.Farmlands proved to be decidedly more fawn firendly, with 72% of fawns surviving to nine months." Very interesting.

Thanks, learned how to place the cameras by trial and error. The key is to place the camera at waist height and not facing directly in the sun. And always remove any weeds from in front of the camera that might set it off. If there is elevation ,then you will need to adjust the height of the camera accordingly. Also never place camera directly facing a trail, but either facing to or away from the trail to be able to catch the animals within the full frame which allows your triggerspeed to be more effective and not to miss pictures. No bear (not many in my area), but I have gotten pictures of raccoon, fox, coyote, turkey, grouse, rabbits

I was never concerned with the glands, but what I do is ensure to hang all my deer head down so the blood does not gather in the hams. I never remove just the glands, that gets removed when you skin the deer. Once the deer is skinned, you can quarter the deer and take one piece at a time into the cabin to work on. We usually have a table set up outside to hold the quarted deer and then take a piece at a time indoors to work on, cut package and place in the freezer and then move onto the next piece.

Yeah checking the trail cam for pictures gets me all worked up, i act like a kid in a candy store. Nothing like sitting in the cabin with your laptop viewing pictures of deer that were on your property. Being into trail cams and foodplots it feels that I'm a part of hunting all year round, its all very exciting to me as well. You wait, now that you have your own piece of heaven, this addiction only gets better. Good luck to your brother John, hope he gets a big one.

You will need to have someone come in with a dozer to remove the stumps this way you will be able to turn the ground.

Looking good John. Keep those pictures coming. Are you planning to have the cabin built before this coming deer season? What type of construction on the cabin and will it have all amenities?

Nice treestand you have there burmjohn, lots of room. I have one similar to that one. The ladder stands I have are the two man type and are very sturdy and I can bow hunt out of them with no problem. Yeah that molded treestand you see in the trail cam pictures is awsome. We bought that for my dad as the weather was getting to him, I hunted out of that during muzzelaoder and it makes a huge difference from being outside. It has four windows and if fully enclosed and we put carpet down on the mesh floor. That stand will be great when my kids get a little older and decide to tag along. Heres a picture of the stand from last year when we had it more in the open, now it sits back on the field edge tucked under a huge pine tree.

Yes 788 on cablevision is the HD version of channel 407. I like Ted Nugent in that he keeps it real and is not afraid to take an average deer and love the way he gets all worked up and he seems to be that type of guy who is genuine and somebody you can hang out with. I like the Crush (Lakosky's) also like The Choice(The small Italian guy) and whitetail freaks (the kiskys sp.??).

No never did see him again. He is probably 10 yards from the foodplot when the picture was taken and must have been chasing does that night, I think I deleted the pictures but in time order before him was a picture of a doe, then him and after him was a younger buck. That is the beauty of the rut, you never know what you will see and I truely believe in trying to keep the does happy by feedong them well (foodplots) and they (bucks) will come. Case in point attached is a picture of an 8 pointer (185lbs. field dressed) my uncle took 2 years ago (1st time we hunted on my property) and out of 500-600 trail cam pictures I retrieved in 2008 I never got one pictures of this 8 pointer, but yet he came to the property looking for does. He was probably not a resident buk but may have come from far away looking for does that I had been keeping happy on my property.Enjoy.

Yeah I take full advantage of learning from the ole timers, I cherish everything we do together as you can tell from the pictures they are not getting any younger. My dad and uncle in the picture we do everything together from foodplots, building treestands, pruning appletrees, planting trees, butchering deer etc......I wish at thier age I have thier stamina they are a dying breed of ole time hard working Italians.........My uncle to the right in the picture is 75 and he runs circles around me..lol.... Last time we were up there he dug three holes and planted apple trees for me while I was tending to something else.
