Anyone have a snowmobile?
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I would want to get $1,300.00, it has a new pull start, brand new drive belt (never used) and the track is studded. In good condition considering its a 1995. Some minor tear in seat which is expected, mechanically sound and very fast. Was started this summer and fired right up and holds idle very well. Its currently all covered up so I'm sure you can get many pictures and videos on the web. -
Anyone have a snowmobile?
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I have one but dont get much time in the saddle, whenever I'm up there I wind up going small game hunting. The times i have ridden its a blast, I have miles and miles of pipelines to ride by me and the snow gets deep real fast. I have a 1995 Polaris XCR 600 two stroke with triple carbs, hit the throttle and you get whip lash. Like anything you need to be real carefull and know where you are riding, there can be many dangerous things lurking under the snow that can cause an accident....i.e stumps, barbwire etc...Good rule of thumb is never ride on a trail that you have not been on when the ground was bare......Lots of fun when you have a bunch of people to ride with and go riding at night. I maybe looking to sell, so let me know if anyone is interested. -
Congrats......you will be suprised how much camo clothing they have for little ones, my kids were decked out in camo from an early age....enjoy every minute Grandpa

Southern Zone Rifle Season - Are you ready? What are your plans?
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I'll be heading up on Thursday afternoon, may bowhunt on Friday or just relax and shoot the rifles somemore. Will be in the stand an hour before sunrise on Saturday. It will be me, my dad and uncle at camp. We will hunt till Wed. morning and then head back up on Thanksgiving night. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!! -
Thanks for the update, I was not able to get up to 4F this past weekend however I know the action would be good. The previous week I was seeing alot of chasing by several young bucks at night in front of my house, like yourself the sign of scrapes and rubs by me is much lesser then previous years. I'll be heading up this Thrusday to maybe get one last bow day in before the gun opener. Good luck to all.

Welcome to the forum. I hunt not to far from you, I'm just outside of Stamford in Harpersfield. Cant wait for the opener as well, good luck.

Three food plots on my property
NYBowhunter replied to First-light's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Typically the tops would be eaten pretty well by now, however the turnips themselves probably wont get hit until the lateseason or thereafter. Wow....a 25 acre clover plot...I'm sure that has alot to do with why the turnips are not getting hit. -
Wow...now that is great and the memories are even better. Something you and your son can cherish for many years....I have alot more years to go but when I reach that age I hope I will still be able to get into my stand let alone fling arrows...tell your dad congrats...

Looks like a fisher or mink.
-
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during these trying times.

It's pretty easy to tell if the deer are hitting the turnips and radishes. Big leaves, so they will either be eaten to the ground or there will just be stems sticking up. Wish I had your problem, all the tops on my turnips and Broccoli Rabe have been eaten. I only have the turnips themselves remaining.

Congrats on your first, your patience and persistence paid off....

Good one,, thats funny..he sure does look like he wants that camera off...lol

will you take a deer of 2.5 years old or younger?
NYBowhunter replied to skyzmine's topic in General Hunting
I practice my own kind of QDM, but I dont enforce my practices on the people I hunt with (dad and uncle), however last two years my uncle and dad have opted to pass on 1.5 year olds during the rifle season. I will take a younger buck (not button bucks) during the bow season, however during the rifle I'm much more selective. Last rifle season I let 4 bucks walk and countless does. For some odd reason I cant bring myself to shoot does (have not in years) and if I dont have it in me they get a pass. Next bow season I think the 1.5 old bucks will get a pass. -
Congrats, very nice buck..

Shot my rifle and ML a couple times already, will shoot the rifle again a couple days before the opener. I'm ready.

Have not seen any chasing. Seen a couple scrapes, I have not seen any rubs as of yet. Saw a 6 point cruising and he was trying to locate the maker of the esterous urine trail I laid down. However he did not show interest in my doe bleats and grunting.
-
Heres a 3 pointer thats not camera shy and another 5 pointer.

Video from yesterday, 4ptr responding to my bleat
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Cool video John. I bleated and grunted at a six point this weekend but he payed me no mind and went on his merry way. -
Thats suprising to me and I hear that alot from others that turnip tops and bottoms dont get hit hard until the first frost or later in the season, however for some odd reason in my area any turnip or Brassica plot I put in gets hammered well before any frost hits. My turnip plot is not small by any means and the tops are mowed down pretty well. I'm strongly considering putting an electric fence or fence around my turnip/Brassica plots next year. Burt, it could be that your high clover plot is delaying the deer from eating your Brassica plots??? Leaving some of my clover plots high worked for a while I would say until the end of September, but once they began to eat the turnips they have not stopped > .

Hey cabin, all I have to say is that buck is HUGE......Good luck getting him. I have a question, I'm always curious to know that if a buck of that caliber shows up is it that you and the people around you have allowed a younger buck to grow? Have you seen this buck prior to this past summer? Or did this buck just show up this year? The reason I ask is that with all the mgt. tools (i.e..food plots, letting young buck go etc...) available to us there always seems to be these huge bucks that show up out of no where. I personally never count on the inventory of bucks on my property as I know the rut will bring outsiders in and new bucks will show...

My deer hoist
NYBowhunter replied to fasteddie's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
very cool idea Eddie. We use two small pulleys to hoist deer and works well but still requires some physical labor, however the buck I just shot we used the front loader on my tractor to lift the deer and that was effortless...lol . I was thinking to do what you did for years now but never got around to doing it, thanks for the instructional now I have an idea as to how to set one up. Do you have the battery hooked up to a tether charger or will you just charge the battery with a 12V charger when the battery looses juice??
