  1. Here are some pictures from the turnip plot that I retrieved this past weekend. As you can see the turnips have grow pretty fast in the last two weeks. To the left of the pictures is the turnip plot and to the right is an existing clover plot.
  2. Looking good, if you have visible clover in there your best bet starting next spring will be to mow the plot to tame any weedy competition. I dont use any pesticides on my plots, but my clover plots are lush only because of repeat mowing once they get 6 or more inches and I fertilize each year. The mowing achieves 2 things for you it keeps the weeds and grasses under control and keeps a constant supply of tender clover.
  3. Heres a pretty cool picture of a deer reaching for some apples. I'll post some other pictures in the food plot section.
  4. Well appears that much of the city is being terrorized by the over population of racoons and opposums. In the past week alone I have had two encounters. One encounter was that I went to put in a new door for my neighbor in her utility closet which is under her porch and laying on a storage rack was a racoon. I had to make a quick noose and I released it out on the curb. Let me tell you they look cute but they are one of the nastiest animals I have ever encountered. My second encounter is with an oppossum that I have trapped in a have a hart trap, I now have to relocate him to a local park, hope he doesnt find his way back.Attached is a picture of the "Brooklyn Thug" oppossum. Anyone else experiencing racoons and oppossums in the city?
  5. I have shot the Grim Reaper blades for a few years now with great success, however I'm impressed with the rage 2 in that they make a whopping 2" cut. Hopefully I will be able to see how effective the Rage blades are. Hey, this year we will have close to identical setups....haha...Not sure about you but I really like the Mathews switchback Xt its a real pleasure to practice and hunt with. i shoot the rage 2 blades on my switchback xt at 72lbs. the setup i have is great! those BH are awesome...
  6. I have never had much success with rattling, in order for it to work consistently you need a more balanced deer herd. Our NY bucks have no real need to pick fights with all the does on hand. However I have had great success with grunting, one time a young buck actually came in and grunted back at me. Grunting is a great tool to get a deer closer or to stop them. Like rattling, grunting is only effective certain times of the season.
  7. I shoot 65 #'s from my Mathews switchback XT. Seems to be plenty of kenetic energy for me, have had plenty of pass throughs with this setup. This year I'm trying the rage 2 broadheads, curious to see how they perform.
  8. Yeah that grass is cozy and soft. Those pictures were taken from an area with a stand of apple trees. Only 20 feet to the left is a ladder stand that I bow hunt out of. About 200-300 yards below this apple orchard are my food plots, they work their way off the food plots in the morning pass through these apple standings and yes about 100 yards or so above these apple tress is a high ridge where the deer bed down. Other then taking pictures from May-July on that high ridge, I then pull the camera in July and dont really venture into the higher parts of my property because its such a heavily used bedding area. Not uncommon to walk the high areas of my property in the late season and find 10 or more beds in the snow. They seem to love the high spots as a vantage point. Sorry for the long explanation, but just thought I would explain the layout of the property.
  9. I didnt even apply for a DMP, figured i could use my muzzleloader to get a doe if my season was uneventful.
  10. Have to agree with you guys, at this stage in my hunting the kill is a small part of the entire experience. Like some of you I find the instructional end of hunting more entertaining...i.e. creating food plots, stand placement, scouting, animal management etc....we need alot more shows like that. What happened to the good ole UNEDITED shows like Jim Dougherty. I like those old hunting tapes, now everything is edited to perfection and is not what you and I experience while out in the field. I agree. I find myself watching less of the ones where they hunt, and more of the informative ones.
  11. Well for me atleast it felt like Christmas. My dad suprised me last week when we went for our hunting license. We went to the counter at Walmart and my dad told the Walmart employee that he will be buying me a lifetime supersportsman. I gave my dad the biggest kiss in front of everyone, the employee was cracking up. Love that man. Wish I can do half for my kids what he has done for me.
  12. They are offering free shipping all day today, the coupon code is SH975. Just placed an order myself for front/rear ATV racks and camo seat for the quad and a 3 pack of 100gr. 2 blade rage heads.
  13. Very cool indeed, not an easy picture to get. I just missed getting what I think would have been a possible nursing picture? see attached.
  14. If this is your property you better start helping some more, didnt see you once to help with the plots....lol
  15. They are nipping at it, but I dont see any major eating just yet. Next to that you can see in the picture we have a clover plot and we are now trying a new thing this year in that we are mowing the clover plot in strips as opposed to mowing the entire clover plot. We hope that the non mowed strips of clover will keep the deer happy. We think that had we mowed the entire clover plot the deer might begin to eat the turmips to early waiting for the clover to re-grow from the mowing.
  16. I didnt actually realize it until i posted these pictures but if you look at the 4th picture from the top, at the left hand side of that photo you can see a deer on its hind legs reaching to get an apple, pretty cool.
  17. Here are some recent pictures from the trail cam of the turnip/Broccolli Rabe plot, they seem to be growing nicely.
  18. Pictures that I pulled this week.
  19. Very nice Mike, better late then never.
