  1. Welcome aboard, good luck to yourself.
  2. Heres one that my uncle took on my property the 1st year we hunted it and that 8 pt dressed out at 185lbs. I have shot two other deer that I did not weigh however one is very similar in weight to the one in the picture and I shot a 6 point few years back that made our 185lb dressed deer look small, so I would have to say that 6 point was well over 200 lbs dressed. I'm really upset I never weighed that 6 point, he is still the heaviest deer we have ever taken to date. My father has been hunting deer for 45 + years now and he said that 6 point was the heaviest deer he had ever seen...
  3. Wow Frank....I'm jealous that your out in the big woods hunting. Good luck..
  4. I use Bushnell Trophy cams also. I've read MANY complaints and negative reviews about the '10 models though on Cabelas and chasingame.com. They said until they get the bugs worked out of the '10 models, you might be better off buying an '09 model. I've never had any issues with my '09's. Thanks for the heads up Cabinfever, I was just about to go out and get the 10' model. Knock on wood as I have not had any issues with the 09' model as well.
  5. I have the Trophy Cam, I have last years model which is 3 or 5 mega pixels. The 2010 model has three settings either 3, 5 or 8 mega pixels,
  6. I'm pretty much ready for the 16th, stands are all in place, last week we did our last mowing on the clover plots for the year and turnips are growing nicely, some apples still in the trees and bow is shooting great out to 30 yards. The clothes, boots etc... are in a tote with pine branches.Wood is cut and stacked for the stove. Walked around a bit on the property, quite a bit of leaves on the ground, leaves falling heavily with strong winds and the mornings are chilly and crisp. Cant wait to get out there. Best of luck to everyone.
  7. Wow, I would love to see pictures of that "house" on tele. poles.
  8. The clover plot is its second season, I would say that since the spring we have cut the clover plot every two or three weeks. The last two cuts we only mowed in strips and left some clover higher so the deer would leave the turnips alone, seems to have worked. This time of year all the clover plots are growing very slow, we gave them their last cut this past week.. We always like to leave the clover a little high going into the fall. Thank God no more mowing for this year.
  9. Yeah I like the bushnell trailcam myself. A very small package that takes great pictures. My moultrie I 40 unfortunately is on its way out after only three years of use, it stopped taking pictures at night , takes very few pictures during the day and the LCD screen is not working. When the moultrie did work it took great pictures, but it was short lived. In place of the moultrie I'm going to get another bushnell.
  10. Some recent pictures of the turnip and clover plots. The turnip bulbs are ranging in size anywhere from a raddish to an apple. The deer are starting to eat at the turnip tops, hopefully I planted enough that they wont eat the entire plot prematurely. I also added fertilizer to the turnip plot for the second time (2 months after planting) in hopes to speed up growth, now only if it will rain. Enjoy
  11. Here are a few recent pictures, I will also post some pictures in the QDM section. Enjoy.
  12. Well I wont slam you but your response regarding food plots makes me a little upset. I live in the city as many other hunters and travel 4 hrs in one direction to get to my property, have 4 little kids and a full time job and I manage to put up food plots. I don't think I would be quite happy with my neighbor throwing down a bag of apples after I have made many sacrafices in putting in my plots. Granted I have an understanding wife, kids that love to tag along and access to farm equipment. Having said that, food plots can be attained by the "weekend hunter" if you are willing to devote a couple weekends each year or you can pay a local farmer to get err' done. My neighbor just had a farmer put in a fall food plot for him for a nominal fee. Contrary to what some might believe I think there is a big big difference in putting in a plot vs. baiting. I think the days of past when we were called weekend hunters or weekend warriors are long gone, as you can tell from this site there are many city folk devoting time to put in food plots.
  13. I have to agree with WNY or atleast I can comment that with my cam setups are either a no brainer where my cameras are placed in a foodplot however still takes some thought in camera placement to get great pictures or my setups are the complete opposite in that I have to put in alot of thought to get good pictures. Sometimes camera placement can be pretty intense , but that could just be me taking hunting very seriously. To accuse someone just because thay have great pictures without proof, why even bother going there? Why are there people coming on this sight with so much negativity? Do people just want to be argumentative or do you have proof of baiting? Maybe what you are seeing are dedicated hunters that take trailcam scouting very seriously, which in my opinion can become just as intense as the hunt itself, just my 2 cents.
  14. I only use bore butter in the barrel when I put the muzzleloader away for the year. When I do shoot the muzzleloader In between my shots I use the milk lubricant. I use a anti sieze grease on the breach plug.
  15. All my shots have been under 20 yards with a couple that have been right under my tree.
  16. I spent $35 with free shipping for the rage 2 which I thought was a great deal, I have seen them retail for $50 plus tax. I wanted to give that local shop business but I couldnt justify $50 plus tax, now thats insane.
  17. Very nice stand John, I have seen similar stands on the net. The one you built is nice and roomy...good luck...I was planning to make a similar stand on my property but with 8 stands already I think I'll wait..
  18. First year using 100gr. Rage 2 blade, prior to that I was using Grim Reapers, which is a very good mechanical as well. Switching to the rage for that 2" cut and I want to see if they perform as well as people say. I used the rage practice head and it flew very true.
  19. Welcome aboard, lots of good people and info on this site. Enjoy.
  20. Hey John you gotta love those double man ladder stands, they are rock solid, comfortable and easy to move. I have a few ladder stands myself. In addittion to the straps I wrap heavy duty chain with a pad lock around where the straps go just in case the straps ever give out and I nail the chain to the trees. I get those double and single man ladder stands dirt cheap from sportsmanguide for under a $100, even walmart has them for a tad over $100. Be sure to put some camo netting around the stands or else you will stand out like a sore thumb...lol...Come bow season I'm sure you guys will be laying down some nice deer.... sure looks like your area could use a little doe thinning?
  21. If you plant they will come...lol...great pics. Looks like the deer are enjoying the plots.
  22. I use a single pin and my matthews bow shoots straight out to 30 yards using that one pin. Up till now never had to shoot over 20 yards with bow in the woods.
  23. I recall in the early 70's when I was a kid my mother would have milk delivered to her house in glass containers and that was in the city, she had a metal box on the porch where the delivery man would place the milk. Those days atleast here in the city are long gone. That same man would aslo deliver 1 gallon glass jugs of bleach...lol. When we are upstate my father occasionally makes homemade cheese and riccotta with milk he gets from a farmer down the road. My father knows the farmer so well through the years that hes allowed to get his milk unpastuerized directly from the stainless steal vat. The cheese is unreal. Nothing like fresh milk.
