  1. Last time went up I moved the two cameras, one was set on my smaller clover / chickory plot and the other was set on a trail. I'm not a woodchuck expert, but I would say that is one huge woodchuck that has been enjoying the fruits of my labor. Enjoy the pictures.
  2. Thats real crazy, that spreader sure holds alot. I have a stream that runs through my property that makes getting a spreader of that magnitude to my plots almost impossible. We had to load 3000lbs of pelletized lime using a pull behind trailer with quad and haul it over our bridge to the two plots had to make like 10 trips and then spread by using a shovel. But you know what, I would not change a thing because I love having a stream that runs the entire span of my property. Deer and many critters use the stream, there are small fish, and it flows year round even in the dead of summer, in the spring the water really moves.
  3. Glad to have you here noodle, great words of encouragement. Welcome aboard pal.
  4. Very cool pictures, I'm sure the experience was priceless.
  5. Its unfortunate that all young deer are shot, but you are still very fortunate to see a buck like that hanging around. Hes a shooter in my book, hard to pass that up. Good luck.
  6. Nice John, the plots working already. Man, lower that camera...hahaha Great your able to get a lime spreader in there, makes life alot easier.
  7. Very close to you my friend I hunt not far off 23 as well. I hunt in Harpersfield, and worcester. My house is in harpersfield and my hunting land is down the road in worcester and I do small game hunting in Oneonta as well. My family has been hunting in the general area from Grand Gorge to Oneonta for the past 50 years. My father took his first deer (doe) in Grand Gorge in 1965.
  8. I hunt in 4F and we have shot a couple hare through the years, but they are not that plentiful. In region 4 you will have much better luck with cottontails.
  9. I wont shoot at a deer beyond 25 yards. Most of my kills have been under 20 yards.
  10. Oh the rocks, I have some very nice HUGE piles myself. Looking forward to puttting in my turnip plot this coming weekend, but not looking forward to removing the rocks.
  11. yes the PH is extremely low, that would explain why you needed so much lime. Dont be suprised if your plots look decent because I have limed, fertilized and seeded on same days with good success, however like you indicated the optimal way would be to let the lime sit for a month or more. You may have some better success with the brassicas as they can tolerate more of an acidic soil and dont need to wait for the soil to become close to neutrel. Did you use a higher nitrogen content for both the brassica and clover plots? The clovers need a higher nitrogen content their 1st year and then lower every year thereafter as clover will produce their own nitrogen. The brassicas will always need a triple 17 or 15 as they require a higher nitrogen each year. The nitrogen content would be the first number of the three numbers on the fert. bag. How much fettilzer did you put down? I would assume you put down app. 400-500 lbs fert. per acre? Look'in good, start buying those trail camera's.
  12. Looks very good John, looks like a nice clean and well prepared seedbed. Is that soil more on the clay side, looks very reddish in color?. How low was the PH reading? Keep the pictures coming. Thanks.
  13. Here are a few of mine with my mom posing with them. The 8 pointer to the extreme right was taken with bow couple years back all others taken with rifle.
  14. Thanks, I hunt in Otsego/Delaware counties, big mountain farm country. The mountain in the background is across the road from me and are the same on my property, after that field where you see the deer it starts to incline and goes up from there. Really nice picturesque countryside. Deer come off the ridgetop and feed in the two food plots that we have.
  15. My main gun is a Browning Stainless A bolt 300 mag with muzzleblock BOSS system and bow I use a Mathews Switchback XT
  16. I usually sit the entire day depending on conditions and how I feel, seen lots of action when most people would be back home getting some grub. I try to sit all day during the bow season and I usually sit entire day for first few days of rifle and then I will get out for lunch and go back a couple hours later.
  17. The black is probably a black racer, be careful with the cooperhead. By me I have seen garter snakes, turtles, frogs, toads and salamanders as far as amphibians and reptiles.
  18. Up until last year I would use the glow of the moon to get to where I needed to go, then I got one of those lights that hook onto my hat as a gift and use that to walk into the woods. Works pretty good and gives off plenty of light.
  19. some very nice bucks you got on video, is that the norm to see bucks of that caliber in your area or was it one of those days where everything seems to be great?
  20. Yep, we enjoy them as much as we can while they still depend on us...before we know it they will be too busy for mom and dad....hopefully hunting and the outdoors will keep us close for many years to come. ote author=ny hunter link=topic=426.msg3582#msg3582 date=1278986599] Enjoy the little ones they grow up too fast...............

  22. Well with 4 little ones they keep me pretty busy with baseball, soccer etc...but I also enjoy taking them fishing and just enjoying the great outdoors, enjoy using my chainsaw, splitting wood, ATVing, fixing stuff around the house, keep a garden and on the larger end I enjoy putting in and maintaining my food plots gives me more of a reason to use my tractor, I also have a 150 gallon saltwater aquarium that I maintain with some really exotic fish (can become a very expensive hobby) its like having a piece of a tropical ocean in your living room.
