  1. Nice deer. That 8 does have some pretty nice mass. Good luck!
  2. I would buy a new one. I have a trufire but there are plenty of nice releases out there. Try a few and get one in your budget. What is the wolf pack?
  3. Honestly, if you like the Scott little goose, buy another one. They still make them.
  4. Nice work! How much that run you if you don't mind sharing?
  5. If you hunt on the north side of St. Mary's pond you can fin some solitude. Have seen several nice bucks there over the years. It is mostly oak along that side.
  6. What a buck! Good luck arrowing that dude!
  7. The last 8 point looks like he has a pretty big body. Good luck.
  8. Funny you say this. My buddies mom gets her license every year, mostly to transfer DMP's now, but has shot a few in her day. One opening day we were in the garage skinning some deer when all of a sudden BANG! We almost cut off our fingers it scared us so badly. Mind you, she hadn't hunted or shot anything in several years so we didnt expect her to be shooting. Needless to say a doe tried to eat one of her precious bushes and she whacked her. Priceless...
  9. I'm not as accurate at 60 yards as I am 40 yards. So yeah, I would say so. By the way, why the heck are you shooting at 3-5 yards? If I get a deer that close I'm using my knife, cause there's no way I'm drawing a bow without them seeing...haha. Seriously though, quit shooting inside 10 yards, there's no benefit to it.
  10. I also have the Tech2O from Gander. Think it's year 6 on the set. It's performed well over the years. Would definitely buy again.
  11. Doe urine here as well, along with grunt tube and can bleat
  12. I primarily hunt private land (my farm and camp) so me, my family, and club members are the only people who are walking about. At home, I'm generally within several yards of my stands (with exception to the one i mentioned above) several times a week with the kids walking the trails, looking for frogs, and what not. In fact I try to spend more time in the woods during the summer so the deer are accustomed to our presence. But the last few weeks before season I will try to stay out of certain areas I know the deer hang out in. Hunting public land is an entirely different story, it no holds barred.
  13. Looks like a pretty big bodied deer. Good luck!
  14. At what point in the pre-season do you stop making alterations to your prime hunting set up(s)? Or when do you make that final cam check in the area you've been getting big buck pics in all summer? Or do you not stop making adjustments? On Saturday I was finally able to get into my favorite spot, move my stand about 20 yards west into some thicker cover, trim some branches, and round up the dang poison ivy. Also put a cam up on the main deer trail to see what's moving through. I'm thinking ill prob check the cam next week and then leave it until I sit in the stand during bow season. Other than that, my cams are easily accessible via truck and the rest of the stands are set according to prior years deer movements. Hoping I won't have to change anything now unless something freaky happens.
  15. DEC aged the last one, it was a train. Wish I could find the picture from the field. Taxidermist did first 2.
  16. My highest scoring buck: 9 point, 114 3/8, 3 1/2 yo My heaviest buck: 7 point, 180 lbs, 4 1/2 yo My oldest buck: 9 point w/drop tine, 7 1/2 yo
  17. Ate my buck tags last 2 years. Was waiting for a mid 120's maybe low 130's 9 point to show his face last year. Saw him twice during archery just out of range. Didn't have a single mature buck walk by other than that. So I would say here it would have to be a 120"+ thats at least 3 1/2. Will prob do the same this year unless I see more activity on my cams.
  18. He looks like he'll be ideal for the season opener. Nice!
  19. I always eat some sort of venison the night before. This way if I fart, it will smell like deer...at least that's what I tell myself. Since I don't drink coffee, I pound a can of Diet Mtn Dew on my walk in.
  20. Here is the buck I think he is from 2011, that would make him 4 and at the top of the list right now . Time will tell.
  21. Tried them out last year and shot a doe with one. It was a hard quartering away shot that entered just behind the last rib and came out just in front of the leg on the opposite side. Complete pass through and she ran about 80-100 yards. I was impressed.
  22. I just happened to mow that path he's walking on a couple weeks back and decided to put the cam on it. My stand is about 10-15 yards to the right of him in the cluster of trees. If its the buck I think it is, this buck is 4 years old. I'm hoping to get a few more pics to help identify him a little better.
