  1. I like elk. Not sure how long it would take for them to produce enough for people to hunt. Decade maybe?
  2. Unfortunately my 7mm was stolen from my parents house while I was in the process if relocating. I didn't mind shooting it, but not more than 10 times in an outing. And the only time I shot it that much was when I was sighting in. I didn't "need" to have the .300 WSM, but it was more of an impulse buy. What can I say I have a weakness when it comes to guns at great prices. I have a couple 30-06's, a 25-06, 7mm-08, .308, all good deer rifles and love the heck out of them. I agree that letting someone else site in the gun is not a good way to learn or familiarize yourself with it. But as my wife and kids seem to occupy most of my free time, it just seemed like a nice option to have. It would be the first time I ever had some one site in a gun for me, and if i do let him, hopefully the last.
  3. As a farmer myself I understand the necessity for nuisance tags. We don't actually get them on our farm because we raise sheep and don't have any crops that we depend on for income. And like WNY said most full time farmers are too busy farming to kill the deer. A neighbor of mine has several hundred acres and gets nuisance permits (20/year I believe). He offers them up to a few of the families up the road that don't have a huge income and use the meat to fill their freezer. I am all for controlling the herd to minimize crop and income loss, but hate to see and hear about the deer getting wasted. There are plenty of hungry families and donation centers that I'm sure would gladly accept the venison. At least in CNY there are.
  4. The gun shop I bought my gun at told me they would bore site and bench shoot my .300 WSM at 200 yards for me with the purchase. I plan on dropping it off with a box of 165 grain Nosler partition ammo sometime later in the summer. They will take the unnecessary shooting off my hands and all ill have to do is fire a few rounds through her to see how it shoots for me. My 7mm Rem mag was no fun after the 10-12 rounds it took to site in, and I'm sure this wont be much different.
  5. Congrats on acquiring some permission to hunt private land. Never to early for cameras. I would get in the woods now and find some decent deer trails to set up on. Granted their patterns will change, but at least you can possibly get a couple sets hung. Plus now is a great time for trimming shooting lanes on the stands you do put in place. Good luck and let's see some pictures after you get your cam(s) up!
  6. I purchased a .300 WSM over the winter for hunting a couple stands on the corn fields. Sure any of my other rifles would have worked fine, and they have, but I didn't have a .300 WSM yet.
  7. I shoot a trophy ridge micro cypher 5 pin site. Haven't hunted with it yet, but have shot hundreds of arrows since I bought it at the end of December. It's super bright in low light conditions and has micro adjustments for fine tuning. I think it was $99 at BPS. Would definitely recommend it.
  8. Nice video. Couldn't help but notice the shirt. You part Native American?
  9. Call them. I sent back a scope because the focus ring would barely turn. They sent me a new one. Customer service was good.
  10. Sorry to hear Wooly! Maybe it's my soothing voice?
  11. Well I have 2 WGI Model W10x cameras that I've had for almost 2 years now. Haven't had any issues until today. Went to check on them to make sure there were no branches or trees down after the storms only to find neither of them were working. The batteries were just charged so I knew it wasn't them. So I took them home and played around with them for a few minutes and nothing. So I called WGI customer support and talked to a guy. He asked when I bought them and then said they only come with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase. I told him September 14, 2011 for $276.98. He asked how I knew that. Told him I still had the receipt. He said wow, thats amazing...tell you what, send me a copy of the receipt via email and I will send out 2 new ones. I Immediately sent the receipt and got email confirmation shortly after that the new ones would be sent out under warranty. This was my first experience with WGI cameras, and their support team. Based on this occurrence I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. They have been good cameras that take good pictures and videos.
  12. Just to get a buck on camera is an accomplishment in 6K. Nice work!
  13. I'm gonna have to look into this POR15 stuff.
  14. 2004 Silverado Z71 with 95k for the farm and outdoors activities, 2005 chrysler town & country with 62k for hauling the kids and long trips, 2002 Camry with 170k as my wifes daily commuter, and a 1998 Corolla with 88k for my daily commuter. Haven't had a payment in 5 years...don't miss that!
  15. I love the neck slow cooked with peppers, onions, and garlic! My mom always cooked it that way for us growing up.
  16. My wife is obsessed with flowers! Really really obsessed! I would bet we have 60 or more varieties around the house. I'm not complaining, they look great. But she thinks I'm nuts...haha. She doesn't know about my knife fetish.
  17. We have thousands of pounds at work. It makes for nice "entertainment" when things are slow.
  18. Does anybody else's wife/girlfriend/lover think they are crazy about deer hunting? My wife heard me and a couple buddies talking about hunting this fall and what we were doing to get ready. She heard us talking about food plots, stand locations, how many does to shoot, what our expectations were, and so on. After we got home she looked at me and said you're absolutely crazy about deer. You are constantly checking your cameras, looking at deer on the computer, checking out that forum, looking at Cabelas, BPS, and other hunting supply stores. You shoot your bow all the time, you are just nuts. I just laughed a little and said yup, and you married me. If she only knew...
  19. As long as it's packed with dry ice. I will gladly give 3 lbs of unshot ribs for 1 lb of backstrap.
  20. Just put the cameras out last week. I wanted to trade camera locations so I swapped cards while I had them out. Just a couple of does and fawns so far. These are my 2 separate corn plots, ~25 acres each.
