Only reason I asked is I saw a buck that had a very similar rack at the butcher shop yesterday. Great deer.

What type of .30-06 ammunition to use for deer hunting?

Thanks! I forget about that place. -
Awesome deer! What part of NY you kill him?
-
There is some super nice property over in that area. The buck in your avatar from there?

A couple of years ago one of my buddies drove all the way to hunting camp in his wife's car to save on gas. Got out, got suited up, opened his gun case and went to take off the trigger lock only to remember that the key was in his truck over an hour away. Luckily for him, I always bring 2 guns to hunting camp. Another buddy one year walked all the way to his stand (1/2-3/4 mile from camp) climbed up, got settled in, only to realize he left his bullets in his other coat. Needless to say, since I was only a couple hundred yards away, over the radio I hear- "Chief....Chief" "What?" "Can you bring me some bullets?" "What? Bullets?" "Yes, bullets. I forgot mine in my other coat" "Are you F*€@$#% kidding me? I'll be there in a few minutes." I almost didn't bring them to him. But, it is hunting camp.

Let me know where you are getting them for $20 a box so I can buy some! I just spent $100 on three boxes of Hornady custom SST for my 25-06. -
Thought he looked familiar...haha. A giant buck was hit in that same area last year or year before, think it was a 13 or 15 point. I saw pictures from my buddy whose a sheriff, thing was enormous! I'm assuming you live in Auburn area? I actually have a farm between 34 and 31 in Weedsport.

You are right, they are based in the US and outsource to Japan. Since we can hunt with rifle here in Cayuga county now, I ended up getting the Viper 4-12 x 40 at swfa.com for $369.99 plus shipping. Ended up saving over $150 over a similar model in Leupold. I would bet a large amount of money that if you put this scope and a Leupold side by side with no identifying markings on them, and asked people to look through and identify which was which, they would assume the Vortex is a Leupold. It is that nice. You get a really good bang for your buck, really good. I love my Leupold's, but may have found a new favorite scope.

Nice shot, and deer! Congrats!

My truck from September after coming around a corner to find 5 deer in the road. I hit the brakes and veered right into a nice walnut tree. I suspect if I hit the deer the damage wouldn't have been so bad, $4700.

Congrats on the nice buck!

One hell of a 6 pointer - what do you think?
chiefbkt replied to moose's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Awesome 6! Looks like a pretty good 2 1/2 year old to me. I have one similar to that at my house, he's not as big as yours though. If he didn't have brows and was a 6, I would smoke him. But like landtrack said, he may blow up next year. -
We may need to move this part of the harvest thread to a new thread and title it "my uncles deer I shot, and my deer I shot"
-
Was wondering the same thing...His wife/girfriend/dad/uncle/grandpa/cousin/sister/brother probably shot the 2nd one.

Perhaps I forgot to mention that I have a bit of a boot fetish. I have 9 pair of boots that I wear regularly during hunting season. Most of them are the leather lace up kind. Of the 4 pair of rubber boots that I own, only one pair doesn't leak. They are a cheap pair of uninsulated red ball boots that I wear when I do chores on the farm. I have a pair of Muck woody sport boots that are 6-7 years old and love them, but they also have a small rip in the side of the boots that I keep repairing and only seems to rip open when I'm standing in calf high water. I will probably just get the Muck woody elite boots and move on with life.

Unless you are gonna shoot it from a kids bow that is under 20 lbs, I would not use it. Not worth risking injury.

I'm not a huge fan if the AR's so you can rule my opinion out on that. As far as your Remington 700 goes, I agree with Bball. Get yourself a nice 30-06, .308, or 7-08. All great flat shooting rifles that are great for killing deer. If your heart is set on a .300 or 7mm, look at the .300 and 7mm WSM. I have a 7mm that just sits in the cabinet waiting for me to go out west. It's a great gun and was an impulse buy, just not a lot of fun to shoot at the range though. You'll get way more use out of one of the lighter calibers. As far as trap guns go, I have a Winchester model 101 o/u 12 gauge that is deadly. Nice weight, looks great, and price isn't too bad either. If I had to choose one of these guns to buy, Remington 700 in any caliber with a 4-12 Leupold. I'm pretty sure it can be done for around $1000. Just my thoughts.

Grabbed the camera today to make sure it made it through the "storm". The one big 6 is a stud. Thought he was 1 1/2, but after seeing these photos, think he might be 2 1/2.

Muddy Treestands
chiefbkt replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I love the portability of the hang on stands with climbing sticks. I have 5 or six of them that I use regularly. They are easy to put up and take down. I can usually have one up in less than 10 minutes. I have everything from Big game XL, Sniper vulcan, Sniper blackhawk, and one field and stream one. I like the Sniper vulcan the most. I was looking at the Muddy outfitter stand today and was wondering if it was worth the price. I don't usually hunt from trees that are crooked, but like the idea of having the leveling platform. WNY if you say it is worth it, I may buy one to try out. Better yet, my birthday is coming up...would make a nice present! -
I'm looking for a new hardcover bow case under $100. Been looking at the Plano protector deluxe bow case at BPS for $79.99. I want to be able to store a decent amount of archery equipment with it. Anyone have another suggestion?

I carry 5 arrows in total, 3 broad heads for deer and 2 for small game. It's always fun to shoot that annoying squirrel when you aren't seeing any deer.
-
I forgot to mention, I have seen all these bucks while sitting in my stand. The one wide 6 point is a super nice deer that I'm hoping makes it to next year.

Congrats on a super nice 8 point. Great picture as well, the background is beautiful.

Here are a few pictures from the past week. Still haven't got any of the big guys on camera since the summer...
