Like WNYBowhunter said, go buy the best half dozen of carbon arrows that you can afford and put 100 grain points on them. I'm sure once you start shooting 6 of the same type of arrow you will see an improvement. Keep in mind, if you plan on deer hunting this fall with your set up, you're going to want to be as accurate as possible. Shooting several different types of arrows that are flying all over isn't going to help matters any. Ethically speaking, I wouldn't want to hear you were going to go hunt with what you are shooting now. It will just end up as a post on here saying how you wounded a deer and can't find it. Get your equipment set up for you and find an experienced archer to shoot with. Constructive criticism is very helpful when first starting out. It's just gonna make you more confident come fall.

I'm sure you could make quite a business out of that...who wouldn't want a $7 euro mount?

2013 Prep work? What are you doing to prep for the 2013 Hunting Season?
chiefbkt replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Talked to a guy (not a worker) yesterday at TSC who said he uses biologic that they sell in the store. He said he rakes away the leaves in the woods and broadcast spreads it. Said it has worked great the last few years. Not sure how accurate he is, but I might give it a try around a couple of my stands. It was only $9 for a 5lb bag. What the heck right? -

Where do I sign up? That's a heck of a bargain at $9500.00! Last hunt I went on cost me nearly $20,000.00, and that was a management hunt, 3&4 year olds with no potential...haha -

We're happily married. She's happy, I'm married.

I had one charge at me like a lion a few years ago while deer hunting from the ground. Had to shoot it out of fear that he was going to attack me and tear me to shreds! Would have got him mounted but the 168 grain ballistic tip did quite a number on the pelt. Did save the skull and tail though.

I'll be moving stands, clearing some new trails, and putting a couple food plots in. Corn and soybeans are nearly finished going in on the farm, so I should have some time to work on the food plots. Also need to build a new tower stand. So much work and so little time. -
Never got the 50 yard target set up, but I did get an old stand set up to shoot at the 30 yard target. I've been shooting inside the barn since December and love it. No wind, no rain, and no snow. Out of the elements for practice in the winter was great. I will move all but one target back over to the house after Memorial Day. Nice to have a place to go shoot if its pouring rain during the summer. I've attached a few more pics of the set up.

I will also recommend Brad at 60x. I bought a new Dead Eye in September and had the strings replaced after bow season (prob had ~600 shots on them). Not sure what kind of bow you shoot, but some of the factory strings that come on bows are terrible, ie the octane strings that came on my bow (IMO). I will agree with the other guys, if you're gonna make changes to your set up, now is the time. Don't wait until the end of summer or a few weeks before the season. And if you're in a bind, you can always head to Gander Mountain. They should be able to tie on a D-loop, adjust and affix a peep, and do most minor bow tuning needs.

Awesome find! You find it on your property/hunting grounds?

Amazing! Hopefully I can get one down in the morning.

They ended up costing me $65 for the half dozen (had coupon). The funny part is the guy at BPS said that GT makes their arrows now. And the Blackout X1 pro is the same as the GT pro hunter. He tried to convince me to buy them but i wanted to do some research on it first. Turns out they are the same arrow. Wish I would have known ahead of time since they were $60 per 6 regular price. Next time I will pick them up.

Bought the Gold Tip pro hunters on Friday and man are they impressive. Shooting half dollar size groups at 30 yards now instead of 20. Haven't shot them out to 50 or 60 yet, but I'm sure i will see improvement. I would highly recommend these to anyone.

I am always checking out new gear for bow hunting and was checking out some of the old/new arrows that are on the market. I currently shoot CX Mayhem hunter and am pretty happy with their overall performance. I mainly hunt deer so I am looking for an absolute awesome deer hunting arrow. So I have been doing a lot of reading and shopping on new arrows and have stumbled across a few that I wouldn't mind trying out. Firstly, the new Easton Da'Torch arrows. They are smaller in diameter, have a straightness of +/- .001", weight tolerance of +/- 1 grain, and I would shoot the 330 at 7.9 gpi. Secondly, the Gold Tip Pro Hunter arrows. These are also slightly smaller in diameter, straightness of +/- .001", weight tol. of +/- 1 grain, and I would shoot the 759 at 8.9 gpi. Lastly, the CX Maxima Hunter. These too are slightly smaller in diameter, straightness of +/- .0025", weight tol. of +/- 1 grain, and I would shoot the 350 at 8.9 gpi. These all seem like great arrows that would perform equally as good in my set up (2012 Diamond Dead Eye, 70 lbs @ 29") but I am looking for a little feedback from guys on here. If you've shot any or all of these arrows, what did you think? How did they perform on the range? On deer? Was there ample penetration? Is there another brand of arrow I should also check out? I am considering purchasing the Gold Tip Pro Hunter, they seem to have good all around performance factors. Any opinion or help is appreciated.

Get on AT every couple of days to check classifieds for deals. I also like to check out the bow make specific page (Diamond archery in my case). Lots of things can be learned from there and on this site. Since you are just getting into archery I would definitely recommend using this site first for any questions. Most all of the guys in here are more than willing to help, and quite often are close by and can recommend pro shops in your area for professional assistance.

First year using bow for spring turkey. I'll be be flinging the Rage turkey broadhead from my Dead eye. Gonna try and video tape it too, so this should be fun.

The new bow looks pretty sweet! Can't wait to see some new videos this fall of you smoking some deer with that beast! I really wish I had a pro shop near me that carried them, would love to shoot one. You keep the old bow or sell it?

Best place to buy Vortex riflescopes

Just ordered the Diamondback in 3.5-10x50 to top off the new TC Venture .300 WSM. Would have preferred to get 4-12x50 but it was only offered in the Crossfire II model. Plus I talked with Vortex and they recommended the Diamondback for the heavy recoil. The other option was the Viper line in a 4-16x50, but I didn't think it was worth the extra $160+ for it. Thanks for all the help and I'll post a pic when I get it set up.
