  1. I would love to join a 3-D league but with mine and my wife's work schedule on top of the kids basketball games it would be tough. That's the main reason for setting something up in my barn. This way I can get over a couple times a week and shoot.
  2. WNY, never tries the summer wheat, in sure it's good though. IPA's aren't dark beers, just beer full of flavor. Granted they are darker than the standard bud light and miller lite. I would highly recommend trying the Caged Alpha Monkey.
  3. Yes thanks to the Mods! And what about some "hoppier" beers like a nice Saranac IPA? Lately I've been enjoying a good one from CB's in Honeoye called Caged Alpha Monkey, some really tasty stuff!
  4. What is everyone's plan(s) for the winter now that deer season is over? I personally am going to try to do some small game/predator hunting with my bow. I'm also in the works of setting up my own 3-D archery range inside my barn. With strategically placed decoys and targets, I will be able to shoot from 10 to 50 yards inside, all winter long! My wife couldn't quite figure out what I would want to do that for, but then again when she goes "hunting" she brings a book with her...haha. Also just ordered a new string for my bow from Brad Patsy at 60X. Can't wait to get her on and start shooting again. Should be a good off season.
  5. Doesn't matter if you are using it to get pictures, it is illegal.
  6. Last night in stand. Dumped my remaining doe pee and buck pee on my drags walked in and hung them from a tree. In favorite late season stand, 200 from bedding area and 60 in from cut corn field. Arrow is nocked and ready to rock! Come on Mr. Bigs!
  7. Different bucks. They have different brows, the 2nd one is missing a drop tine, and the 2nd one looks much older.
  8. I actually asked the DEC officer when he stopped into camp a few years ago. He said it was perfectly legal. I have 2 muzzleloaders, one .50 cal and one .45 cal. Never brought them both out but nice to know I can if I want.
  9. What an awesome buck! Looking at the trail cam pic, it looks like a monster 3 1/2 year old. Congrats on a super buck!
  10. What model is it, and is it youth or adult? Figured I ask since you bought for youth.
  11. Those are some pretty vague questions on the survey. I took it though.
  12. Sam that is a slammer of a buck! You can tell from your second pic that thing has some serious mass. I can see how he gets close to 150". I know a guy who has a camp up in the adks and he shoots a buck every 3-4 years there. He passes on a lot of nice deer and when he does shoot one, they resemble the one you shot. Big, heavy horned deer. Nice buck.
  13. Given mine and my wife's work schedule, I'm only able to hunt weekends. That being said, since bow season started until now I have only missed 3 days of hunting. This past Sunday was the first time I hunted without seeing a deer. So I would say this year has been pretty good. I can say however, that I haven't seen any bucks while hunting since bow season. Which is quite amazing since I have seen so many does, and none with a buck in tow. Maybe this weekend will be the weekend i see one.
  14. Great story and nice bucks, Congrats!
  15. Good luck and let us know what he decides on!
  16. I actually had the DEC pull in my driveway as I was heading to the taxidermist and butcher. Had a truck bed full of deer. 2 doe and my buck. He started the conversation by saying "heard you shot a big one". Thought that was kind of odd. Then asked to see my license and the tags for all the deer. He was pretty impressed and said I was the first person he had seen that actually filled out the DMP transfer portion on the license. We chatted for a bit and then he was on his way. He makes it a habit to stop in now once a year just to see how I've made out. I would bet he shows up this weekend. Oh, and been stopped a bunch more times in the northern tier while hunting and fishing. They are fine as long as you comply.
  17. Nice buck. I would patent that hut.
  18. My hunting club has been around since 1991, same property, and the 2 original founders are still there hunting. We've had as many as 11 members but now have 8. I've only been a member since 2000, so I don't know the total amount of deer taken. I do know in 2004 we set a hunting camp best when we shot 43 deer. I'm sure we are close to 300 total and I could prob call the president now and he could give me an exact count. He has kept track in a log book since the inception. He records sex, weight, weather conditions, hunter, weapon, and stand location. I'm looking forward to passing my memories on to my kids, like he has done with us.
  19. Always nice to see moose in NY! I'm gonna assume Lewis county? Looks like he's sitting on a honey hole if they ever decide to open a season up here. Thanks for sharing!
  20. All the more reason for building a walk in cooler!
  21. Sam, I'm hoping you are letting the meat cool before putting it in the bags or you are not sealing the bags. The warm deer meat inside a sealed bag can spoil it, even if placed on ice immediately.
