  1. What can one expect to pay for said bow after complete set up? ie; rest, sight, stabilizer, etc.
  2. I would use Wooly's suggestion. Inserts are cheap.
  3. I have the Gamo whisper air rifle that apparently shoots the PBA bullets at 1250fps. Although I've never had it chronoed, I wouldn't doubt its speed. It's fairly accurate out to 50 yards, and I've killed chucks, squirrels, pigeons, starlings, and other nuisances around the farm with it. The kids love shooting it and it's cheap enough for them to shoot for hours. I bought a 500 round can from Cabela's for $6. They aren't the most accurate but for the kids their fine. Great little gun to get them started with and teach them gun safety.
  4. Wow those taxes are unreal! We live in northern cayuga county. We have a 4 bedroom house, farm with 5 barns/sheds, and 100 acres of land, and our taxes combined are.......you ready.....$5,000! I couldn't imagine paying that much in taxes. But, there are people I work with that pay 10k-14k a year for an acre or less. Not to mention, I'm part of a hunting club (8 guys) that leases ~700 acres in Oswego county for $2500 a year. Now granted the bucks aren't the biggest and the deer population isn't the greatest, but we always shoot deer. And every 2-4 years we shoot a really good buck for the area. NYARCHER76- I know you said southern cayuga, but have you looked at Cortland county? That's not too far from southern Cayuga. Check with gutchess tree farm right in Cortland, here is the link: http://www.gutchess.com/forestry_services.aspx Scroll to the bottom where it says recreational leases. That is who we lease our property from. Might be worth a call.
  5. I'm thinking about trying some of the Hornady superformance ammo for my 25-06 and was wondering if anyone has had any issues shooting them in their gun. I have seen mixed reviews on them saying they aren't accurate or has a lot of recoil. I'm not worried about recoil with the 25-06. I know every gun is different and may like certain ammo more than others. But if anyone has shot or shoots these, and has positive or negetive feedback, I would like to hear it.
  6. That last buck is neat looking. He could be super impressive in another year.
  7. Not to get in the middle, but I just got a quote from my gunsmith for the .300 wby mag Mark V custom brand new with out scope for $2200 plus tax. Now throw a good scope on there and you are around $3000. I don't see how $2500-$3000 would have taken both. Especially in the conditions they were in. I think the $5400 he is offering for that gun is fair. Go buy that gun "custom made" new and see what kind of price you get.
  8. When I first started bow hunting I shot the fixed blade razor backs (yes with the rotating head and yes I still have some) and killed the only deer I saw with it. I then switched to the NAP thunderhead because that's what my friend shot and killed a big buck with. I killed a couple with them. Next I tried the muzzy 3 blade because they were all the hype and everyone was using them. Killed a few deer with them. Next I tried the Ted Nugent 2 blade (fixed). They were ok, killed a deer with it, but were tough to keep sharp. After that I tried my first mechanical, the NAP spitfire. Loved how they flew and how little tuning was needed for them to fly good off my string. Killed a bunch of deer with them. So then I tried some other mechanicals, rocket, wasps, Grim reapers, and several others. Didn't like any of them. Then this new one came out, Rage 3 blade with a slip cam and rear deployment. Sounded fancy, and a lot of people were shooting them, so I tried it. Didn't like them. Almost lost a doe and small buck the first two times I hunted with them (both pass throughs, very little blood trail, tracked forever.) Went back to the spitfire. Then Rage came out with the 2 blade and I hemmed and hawwed and talked myself out of trying them...but then bought some anyway. I have killed 2 deer on those broadheads, all pass throughs with great blood trail. Then a buddy of mine said you need to try the swhackers, they are awesome! I havent had a deer go more than 30 yards! And he isn't that great of a shot. So this past spring they had a deal, buy one pack get one free. How could I pass that up at 29.99 a pack with $5 shipping? So I bought $89.97 worth. Figured if I didn't like them, I could sell them to my buddy. So I will be trying them out this fall. Hopefully they will live up to the hype. Needless to say, I've tried a lot of broadheads!
  9. I have 2 LC Smith side by sides for sale...just saying.
  10. Dstone001, what kind of price range are you looking at anyway? $300, $400, $500, $1000???
  11. That's what I figured he would gross in the upper 160's to low 170's, but you know how they like their deduction calculator...
  12. Absolutely amazing buck! He's got a lot of really neat character to his rack. What do you think he would score? I was thinking upper 140's to low/mid 150's after deductions. Either way it's an awesome deer. Good luck chasing him down, and hope you get a shot at him.
  13. I'm just hoping to get a P&Y buck. That seems more attainable in NYS than B&C.
  14. That's a heck of a luxury to have! With my kids so small still, it would be tough to do that, but maybe in the future when they are all in school.
  15. I have 2 weeks left so I will probably take 3-4 days during the early bow season, Monday after NZ gun opener, entire week of Thanksgiving, and then my wife will determine the rest...haha
  16. I do have pictures. I am in Maine on vacation right now so I will have to upload when I get home. Unless he's on my laptop???
  17. This would be much easier if it were in color...I say red fox though. I don't think Greys are that tall, at least the ones by my house aren't.
  18. Really nice looking buck! Good luck tagging him.
  19. I have 5 Savage rifles and love them all. Great guns for the price.
  20. I have the Simmons rangefinder and love it. Compared it to the big name range finders and performed as good or better.
  21. Here are a few pictures of a nice 1 1/2 year old 6 point and a real nice 2 1/2 year old 8 point.
