2021 Sausage Extravaganza!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to The_Real_TCIII's topic in Deer Processing
It's been a while since I attended a math class but aren't those the same ratios? lol -
I went around and emptied the 6 gallon pails last night. Ended up with 25 gallons off the 20 taps. a couple still didn't look like very much came out compared to the others. Could it be a bad spot in those trees? wood was all light and healthy looking when I drilled.

Coyotes On The Move Across New York
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Steve D's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I'll be curious to see the fawn recruitment this spring on the 1,000 acre farm we trapped this year. We took quite a few coyotes and fox off there and I know the 50 acre farm adjacent took and additional 7 coyotes at last report. They manage that property pretty hard and run cameras all year so I wonder what they'll shot this spring. -

I have been told they certainly will dig up buried ones even opossum. Not unusual for them to be used in buried bait sets becasue the rotting smell of anything seems to elicited a digging response. I'd be curious your results if you utilized coon quarters as bait to see their response out there. -

You'll see coyote swings in the years with good and poor small game numbers and I think that disease does take a toll, especially when numbers get too dense. The fox observation you made I believe is just the opposite from what I have been reading and gleaned from trapping discussions. The fox population typically has an opposite response to the coyote numbers. Coyotes have cause fox numbers to drop in areas that were very good red fox trapping places. I know tow guys in MD and they have seen a steady drop on fox numbers as the coyote numbers have spread and increased. That seems to be typical. -
I emptied what I had accumulated on the 20 taps last night. There was about 12 gallons. They are all set and hoping for a big flow with this warm up. Fingers crossed on the taps that didn't even drip a bit.

Atv for ice fishing
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
It was more out of lack of funds but it sure did work well. Years ago one buddy was pulling our stuff out on the ice for fishing a lot. He got a used set of tires for his wheeler and he ran hex head sheet metal screws into the tread lugs. it was the best thing I've seen for running on the ice for wheeled vehicles. -

From what I have seen you are giving the coyotes too much credit for the coons not eating your corn. They won't even touch a coon carcass unless they are in some dire straights. -

NY has them classified as a furbearer which ties them to a specific season. Several states list them as predators and have a season that is open 365 days. -

Best bet to make any impact is to trap them. A trap line will work for you 24/7 and we can't be out there like that to hunt them. -
We're in the same boat. I've had some mixes that are good but we prefer to do our own. We've done bologna summer sausage couple different kinds of snack sticks 4 flavors of hotdogs pepperoni Italian sausage smoked jalapeno sausage then a host of jerkies
-
Not out here by me. Upwards of 5-10,000 an acre now. I'm looking and it's gotten insane over the last 3 years.
-
We love doing our own as well. Did you use packaged mixes or from scratch?

Gender questions...
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Zag's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It's amazing to me that many (not you) that I run into have no idea how some of these "good intentioned" programs have real world impacts on them. Whether it is being passed over for a job position or having to pay higher taxes. NY's moves to include project labor agreements that force Union participation to build publicly funded projects, State of Federal mandates to pay Davis Bacon Wages on projects that are publicly funded, Having to meet "goals" for subcontractor contracts to a class of business, among others. It forces costs up and those costs are funded by taxpayer money. So I can see some value if it's info they can use in selecting or supporting candidates or policies. -

Wouldn't wanting a thread locked becasue you don't feel it should be allowed on a hunting forum in the political section where the politics surrounding race and gender is being discussed would fall right in line with the term Cancel Culture? -

It goes beyond just employees too. Ever hear the term "set aside contracts"? How about goals for subcontractor participation or vendor purchase participation? -

I am saying you may not have gotten it because you weren't a woman or a VET or disabled or a minority. I make those decisions every day and when you need to hit "goals", many time a lesser qualified candidate may be hired becasue you need to check a box. -

Possibly it has but you just don't know it. Ever interview for a job and not get it? -
