I’ve got news for you. A poacher does not want to be waiting and blood trailing a deer. They would need lights on for extended periods of time. They prefer a gun. A lone single shot is damned difficult to pinpoint exact direction especially if you aren’t expecting to hear it. “Weapon of poachers”. More typical NYB BS

No holes cut but they have cushy office swivel chairs in them. -

That could very well be. I remember the gun I was carrying but couldn't remember the exact year. It literally poured from start to finish. -

It's gun season. That isn't hunting anyways, right? lmao. They are sure nice on days like Saturday. The big one looks over a big hillside behind it and when the wind is out of the south they flock to it and still work the bottom. It's a north facing hill so it will be totally shielded on Saturday. -

I don't think the rain or snow bothers them at all. I remember back about around 98 or 99. I sat in a stand and it POURED all day from sun up to sun down. It was shotgun area and I saw 3 of the biggest bucks of my life on the same trail. about an hour apart and just out of range. Before you ask...no I didn't move closer after seeing number 1 go though. becasue how could another slob come down the same trail. and I didn't move after number two went through either. I didn't even move after number 3 went through. As it turns out that was the only correct move I made that day becasue #4 never came through..lol. Wind on the other hand is a death blow in my view. Heavy wind takes away one of their senses and they don't like to move. (as a general rule) I have also had very good luck in heavy rain that made the woods loud with the drops hitting the leaves and trees. They don't seem to like the constant noise and I have seen them move to areas like golden rod fields. -

The blinds I have use some sort of pocket to hide little orange squares that fold out and are visible if you want to use them. -
Southern opener windy weather

30 yards isn't bad if it's the right 30 yards...lol. The goal is going to be to stay dry enough so you can stay out there. The question you have to ask yourself is are you better off a couple hours seeing further or being out all day and seeing less. -

keep yourself as dry as possible and try to find a sheltered place to hunt. If you are out of the wind in those features the deer will be too. I have spent whole days in the rain and there is no need to barrel protect like a muzzle loader. I also wouldn't worry about oiling your gun like you mentioned. I wouldn't want to inject the smell, honestly. When done hunting I would break it down. dry it well and get it warmed up, then put a light oil on all the metal parts to ready it for the next outing. Good luck. -
It isn’t really googling. It’s been best to death at least a couple times a year since this site was started. I doubt we can add anything that hasn’t been posted before. But everyone will try. Lol. Good luck this year. Enjoy it out there. We only have so many hunting days in our lives. Don’t waste them.

It's difficult to take stock in what people assert when so much of their information is not born out by the facts. Yeah, NY could be a lot better but you lose all credibility when you toss out things like shooting all the does you want and harvest data that is NOT accurate. It' isn't personal so don't get riled. The reality is you are not old enough to know what NY was like to judge how far it has come. NY has WAY more varied habitat than any of the other mid west states you are talking about. There will never ever be a one size fits all solution to deer management in NY. There can't be.

Well the harvest data (for what it is) does not support your 75% yearling harvest numbers. Look at the yearling harvest trends for NY. I am lucky with some of the areas I have access to. but it isn't just near me. There are mature bucks taken all over the state. Sure they aren't behind every tree like some would like but it sure seems like every region posts them up each year.
