  1. In terms of mature bucks I have seen more shot on the set up than the actual drives. Just as you describe they sneak out. I've seen the drivers shoot them while waiting to start the drive because they were pumped out by the watchers going in. ON two swamp drives we use to do we always left a guy back where the drivers started. That was a great spot too for the bucks that slid between and headed back through, (many times with their back to the wind.)
  2. Pretty good read on eating organs. (with some recipes) https://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/whitetails/2004/11/how-cook-four-gourmet-recipes-gut-pile
  3. I usually dump mine down by a local boat launch.
  4. he's a self proclaimed hunter. He could have just passed his hunter safety course and doesn't know which end of the round to place int he gun first. lol. I find it hard to believe he started flipping and examining all those decomposing carcasses. Doewacker---what have your temps been like out there? that had to be ripe if your temps have been like ours.
  5. I know of a couple that purposely gut shoot on DDP so they don't have the dead deer on their land and don't have to burn a permit tag. (unfortunately we can't prove it)
  6. Unfortunately it always seems that stories like these are put forward on front page and once the real truth is know it is last page if at all. I do question why this guy went to the media. I wonder if he reported it to the DEC at all or just went to the media. I'd be including him in my "in depth look" lol
  7. Sounded to me like the "hunter"/Fisherman determination that they were shot and not an official agency.
  8. I would bet they weren't. This is a pure guess but here goes. I believe the state and some local Govt's contract with company's/individuals to remove roadkill. Wouldn't surprise me if this dump location was closer than the spot the government was providing to dispose and the person paid to pick up and dispose of took an easier way to get rid of them. For them to be intact I can't see it being a poacher. if you just wanted to kill them then why not shoot and let lay in place. the Yotes would take care of it in pretty short order.
  9. I guess with no restrictions on the original question I would have to opt for a Savage Model 24 in 30-30 over 12 gauge.
  10. I can’t say that the temp differences are not real on your structures. . I have no idea. I will say it isn’t because of a reflective layer or bubble wrap. I would sooner believe it is the insulation or dead air barriers
  11. I'd be tossing on some of those gutter guards.
  12. The ones we have take a deliberate push in and turn motion to operate the valve. I can't see them leaking. They hold pressure and gas in the lines for a week between hunting trips. I have an inline valve to isolate them If I want and That line lit immediately the following week. These are the ones we have. http://www.paulinproducts.com/gas_lights/gas_lights.htm Really don't use them in the summer becasue of the heat. It's LED's then,
  13. We'll have to disagree. I don't know where you are pulling that "heat sink" stuff from. It's bull
  14. No way would I use Vinyl siding for a remote build. There is only 3 materials I would use on the skin of a remote cabin. metal, metal and metal. Our cabin is 9 years old and there has NEVER been a critter that made it's way into it. (knock on wood...pun intended) To the OP, There are some great propane lights as well. They put out about 2,000 BTU each and can really raise the temp in a small cabin. We run propane stove for cooking but opted for an electric fridge. the small and quiet Honda 2000 generator will run 14 hours in Ecco mode on 1 gallon of gas and kept the electric fridge cold, battery charger going and some other small misc items. We have 12 volt system as well and LED lights, 12v water pump and a full bathroom.
  15. What did you do with the deer since it had that infection?
  16. I've seen some of the biggest deer of my life in that county. They are there.
  17. The biggest difference I have seen on the more expensive models over the cheaper ones is the sound. I have notice a marked difference with the more expensive being quieter.
  18. I think they are taking a very wide view of what an agricultural practice is. Not necessarily for human consumption, like a clover, hay or alfalfa field. I'ts for animals but domesticated ones. I have picked some great turnips out of a couple plots a buddy planted though. They were delicious. But in general, I don't see the difference really, other than what the law says.
  19. I think about anyone can get deer up and running in the later part of the season. Understanding where they will go, heading them off and putting them there so they aren't running at mach 3 is the trick. Nothing and I mean nothing is less predictable than having a mature buck in a drive you are doing. I have seen them do everything they aren't suppose to do to get through you. The biggest one I ever shot on a drive laid right there behind a log and let me walk right by him. Luckily I had snow but if I hadn't turned 90 degrees to go around a blowdown and saw him laying there out of the corner of my eye, I think he would have let me disappear and never gotten up. I shot that one where he was layign and 20 yards.
