  1. Separate muscle groups to smallest "chunk". Trim everything off that isn't meat and cut steaks across the grain of the meat. It can be intimidating if you haven't done it. Just can't be scared to try. As far as the hair. Cut hide from inside to out and you will release a fraction of cutting in. Th n quickly brush over it with a propane torch and it's gone .
  2. This guy made it through the season 2 years ago and I didn't hear anyone taking him last year.
  3. When We did the ones we took up North with the muzzle loader we hung them in a tree. rope over the limb and used the truck to raise and lower them. On three of them it took me 20 minutes each to skin, loins, backstraps, boneless hind quarters and front shoulders. They pulled them up and I started and then they dropped them. The one really big doe took me a half hour. We didn't have to worry about clean up out in the hedge row. We dint have the option to hang at all because it was mid 70's for temps. When we got them home we put them in our meat totes with lids and tossed in the old fridge. cut them up a couple days later. This all can be a simple or as complex as we want to make it. I think everyone should make an attempt to do one deer themselves. They would find there really isn't any vodoo to it and not that hard or time consuming at all. (Wrapping or vacuum sealing is the killer. )
  4. no reason they shouldn't work fine. i will say that even with cooler temps be very careful about leaving them in direct sunlight. It can raise the temps and spoil it even when its cool.
  5. are you planning on using this to hang and age the deer or just use it to raise and cut them up?
  6. Isn't that a typical 10? The tine length is crazy
  7. She's a trooper!...I have been hit twice and they were both with my father's 1100. Let me mention they happened a week apart from on another and and both cuts were about 1/8" apart. The second one hurt WAY more than the first since it was still sore. Didn't get stitches an no visible scar until I get sunburn o my face.
  8. the one thing I like to keep an eye out for at garage sales and in the garbage (especially in the next month and a half) is old artificial Christmas trees. I've used the branches to camo things in. Really worked well in our old built in lumber stands. drill a hole and stick a branch in. bend limbs how you want them and no need to worry about leaves falling off. On a ladder or lock on drill holes in a the tree or zip ties work well.
  9. Shameless plug alert- ---If you want to stay up on these kind of announcements as well as other great whitetail and habitat information visit this Facebook page and hit the Like button. https://www.facebook.com/GRSTQDMA/

  11. I know the areas you hunt, there is no such thing as too many..lol
  12. Stated early on I had no interest or desire to try it. I was just having fun becasue it struck me odd there would be an opinion put out by DEC and not a reference to a section. I've never been one for "becasue I said so" caused me a lot of a$$ ache growing up...lol
  13. It sure can. I would think that the level of confidence one has in the Encon officers and the regulations is framed very much in the past experiences with them. I have dealt with nothing but top notch professionals out here in Region 8, some of the eastern regions, not so much. Toss in the other LEO's that are not totally focused on ENV law and that frames my hesitancy to just leave it to their interpretation.
  14. I certainly wouldn't think so. And anyone that is really hunting turkeys probably wouldn't have them. All this would be mounting evidence, but as long as we are laying out the theoretical. what if you already filled your deer tags and only had a turkey tag on you?
  15. you wouldn't see any game with the entourage of people you would need to carry all your crap..lol
  16. I guess I am out of touch, I don't get those "gear" comments. my backpack is always packed the same. short of a diaphragm call which I don't use in fall. I mainly just ambush based on their patterns. i will admit I am not a very good turkey hunter. Knife is the same, wipes, little toilet paper, couple plastic bags, zip ties, compass, GPS. Pen. Doesn't really change.
  17. +1 and this is what we end up with when you have a reactive government and little planning. "we have to pass a law to find out what is in a law" approach to things.
  18. I agree with the process and conclusion but it ins't supported by the wording of the law and the definition of a "firearm" . I expect they won't change it and will muddle through over a season or two until full inclusion
  19. What section are you using to decide it would be illegal?
