  1. I wonder why the proponents of the vaccine are very willing to set aside individual rights in the light of 690,000 COVID deaths (and I'm not certain all those tallied are actual deaths by COVID as opposed to a death while having COVID) but are screaming at the top of their lungs to protect individual human rights when staring at over 800,000 US abortions each year. AND the flip the coin and there are people screaming about being willing to take a woman's right but don't tell me what I must do. If this COVID has done one thing for me it is to really highlight even more hypocrisy in the world.
  2. Just an FYI. pint jars are 60 minutes and quarts are 90 for every cold packed meat recipe I have seen. If you are getting into this I highly suggest the Ball canning guide and discourage internet. I have seen a bunch of bad info out there and you do not want to mess with badly canned food.
  3. I don't know. It can't be passed off as "hunting" in my book but to me should it be banned? We raise domesticated animals of every size and shape and kill them for food or one industry or another. The black eye are the narcissists that feel the need to pass off a deer like this and some achievement of theirs.
  4. I am going from memory but I can't recommend the Ball Canning guide enough. It is very helpful becasue pressure canning is NOT the activity to venture out on unproven recipes. I use about 1" to 1-1/2" cubes of venison. pack in sanitized and warm jars (I like pint narrow mouth becasue it seems to hold the meat down well). I add in a couple whole cloves of garlic and about a quarter section of a small onion. dash of Cayenne pepper or a hot pepper (optional) I can't remember the amount of canning salt but that is added too. Pack tightly as possible to reduce air space and pressure can. I think it was 60 minutes for pints and 90 minute for quarts. No additional water required. It's simple, delicious and really makes a great use for lesser cuts of meat. SUPER tender and even heavy sinew cooks down and the meat falls apart with a fork. Good use for shanks and lower quarter meat.
  5. Love the brown stain you used on the railings of your "hunting blind"..lol
  6. @Doc There are a few listed on the DEC site but none super close to you that I see. https://register-ed.com/programs/new_york/128
  7. GVTA is actually where we did the class. They had 4 people that helped as instructors and they did a great job. I'll keep my ear open.
  8. A few pics of me demonstrating fleshing and boarding.....and getting some tips myself from one very knowledgeable trapper. I have never used a scraper like this before. I have only used my Necker fleshing knife. BUT...I will be buying one for sure. It's great in the tight areas.
  9. I've done squash before but cook it down before canning. lets you keep a jar full that way...lol. You will get hooked on the canned venison. I like a cold pack method.
  10. Took My hunting course in 1976 at 12 years old. Been hunting since carrying a gun but had been tagging along with my father in the woods for small game and deer since I was 8. I'm 56 now so this will be my 48th season.
  11. Well we had a beautiful couple days. Class was small becasue we had a few cancellations becasue of they had to isolate due to COVID exposure. They took the class on Saturday, the branch provided lunch and all passed and received their certificate. There were demos of different sets and explanations of locations and reading sign. The branch bought them a 1 year membership at the Genesee Valley Trappers Association and their first year trapping license. Sunday started with the participants making sets and getting use to handling foot hold traps, body gripping traps and dogproof traps. We then went to a skinning session and after a demo each participant got to skin a fox and learned to properly flesh and board a fox and coyote. The day ended with each participant taking home a 110 body gripping trap, 2 differnt styles of dogproofs and two Bridger #2 Offset dogless foot holds. I think everyone had a good time and took some good info and many stories home with them. Some pics of the session.
  12. Based on the "plow" I made for @moog5050 to use behind his 4 wheeler I had @Wildcatreach out. He wanted two that were a bit bigger. 6' wide, to pull behind his tractor. He had some steel laying around so I modified what I did before to use what he had available. The one beefier plow has a channel to add 8x8x16" solid concrete blocks on the top channel if he wishes. He also requested that they be made to pull in tandem so I made them so the lighter one can be hitched to the back of the beefier one. I did not grab pics of them once they had the hitches on them but he will be sending me pics of them and hopefully a test video in a couple weeks. I hope they work well for him. If you like what you see and want one, let me know and we can work on a variation to meet your needs and talk about a price.
  13. I use to wear glasses for distance. Oddly enough as my reading has gone to hell my distance got better. BUT when I was wearing glasses I noticed a marked difference in POI of the arrow with my glasses on compared to when they were off. staring down the bridge of your nose you get light refraction through the lens and the pin really isn't where it would be with the naked eye. So don't be surprised if you have to adjust pins if you are going to go with glasses now.
  14. wasn't it "crying" about the need for orange that started this?
  15. It really is a big neon sign to an anti of what is going on and where to find you.
  16. I've shot quite a few deer wearing jeans. I know they are suppose to see "blue" best but I never had an issue. Scent and movement seems to be the biggest deal breaker and I'd try to stay away from detergents with "whiteners" in them.
  17. Fluorescent Orange & Fluorescent Pink Clothing Requirements New: Any person hunting deer or bear with a firearm or a person who is accompanying someone hunting deer or bear with a firearm shall wear: a minimum total of two hundred fifty square inches of solid fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink material worn above the waist and visible from all directions; or a minimum total of two hundred fifty square inches of patterned fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink consisting of no less than fifty percent fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink worn above the waist and visible from all directions; or a hat or cap with no less than fifty percent of the exterior consisting of solid fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink material and visible from all directions.
  18. Hard to believe but only 7 registered for the event. If anyone has any interest, shot me a message.
  19. I find the "invisible twig factor" is exaggerated by the magnification. With a scope you focus right through small objects like that. I've spent years using magnification optics for work and it amazes me how many things you can "look right through" with magnification.
  20. Welcome. Tough hunting up there. Where abouts from Central NY are you from. I grew up in Herkimer
  21. I use a Cat Quiver backpack and that way never have to worry about any rattling or the quiver getting in the way. Arrows are easily accessible while walking or when I hang the pack on a hook. They make just quivers too but I like the pack combos https://www.3riversarchery.com/buy/shooting-gear/quivers/catquivers
  22. https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html It is considered "Regular" season
