Exhausted after taking these 2 for 2
Culvercreek hunt club replied to shawnhu's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I don't agree. reduce the herd during this season and you impact next years local numbers. give out DDP'sopent he property to hunting if you want the DDP's. I believe the in season tags are limited to 2 per hunter anyway. -

If you feel these farmers have all this extra time on their hands you really don't understand the life style. Especially if they don't hunt themselves it is no differnet that hiring an electrician or a plumber to complete a task you eith don't know how to do yourself or don't have the time to. I have hunted on these tags in the past and in hindsight I think they should do away with them to open up more property to hunters. The only benefit of these tags over a normal hunting tag is they are specific to the property being damaged. To -

Nuisance tags are issued for antlerless only (with few exceptions) becasue the goal is population reduction and that is achieved with the removal of the does. There are a few businesses that may get antlered nuisance tags, such as nurseries and orchards, but they are not given or valid until the rubbing damage to the trees start. -
I wouldn't think it goes over 200.

I didn't imply anything unless you are on the one farm that I know shoots to wound, but I doubt that. Are you sure the tags are unlimited? I have never heard of them being issued that open ended. -

These tags are assigned to hunters by the farmers in many cases if they don't shoot the deer themselves. I know of one farm that has tags but just shoots to wound and let's the deer run off to die. That way they always have valid tags to keep shooting. THe whole nuisance system is screwed up and should be revamped. -
2 year trial period, as they have done with other counties. It expires in 15 and must be acted on again for it to continue.

JJB...it was justifiable use of lethal force just because Scott was rushed by the kid. -
Bowhunting the regular season

It is illegal to discharge a firearm or bow: so that the load or arrow passes over any part of a public highway, within 500 feet of any school, playground, or an occupied factory or church, within 500 feet of a dwelling, farm building or structure in occupation or use unless you own it, lease it, are an immediate member of the family, an employee, or have the owner's consent. You may hunt waterfowl, over water, within 500 feet of a dwelling or public structure as long as neither are within 500 feet in the direction you are shooting. -

Do you remember the Roderick Scott Trial? There wasn't even any "contact" in that case. The Grand Jusy wouldn't even entertain a Murder charge. They knocked it down to Manslaughter and the Jury let him off after hearing the evidence. That is a NY case. -
Disnsdale hit it ont he head. As a longer range gun the 300 is good. I would offer a few more points to consider, not knowing your specific situation. Check on ammo price and availability for the caliber you choose....Is your intention to use this on other big game like out west? what style gun are you looking for? Bolt single shot other? How much tolerance to recoil to you have?

It may be dumb but it still is a regulation. I bounce back and forth between NZ and SZ and from my conversations with DEC officers I get the feeling that ticket isn't one they toss out much. Seems to be lopped on with others when someone is screwing up. I forgot it once and did run across an officer. he reminded me, talked for a bit and was on his way.

Agreed, As NYAntler said last year. If they opened a season using a hammer he would be in the woods. I started out gun hunting and got myself into bow after being exposed to it at scout camp. I love to bow hunt and look forward to it more each year. (I think becasue of the practice sessions and it is the first season of the year). But I still love shotgun, Muzzle loader and now hunting with my pistol. I really just love to hunt more than what I am holding in my hand to do it. I couldn't justify buying a crossbow if they opened the season but I would sure find an excuse too if it ended up in it's own season.

Not true. Their reports even state it was implemented for social reasons. They also state they see no biological benefit for AR's -

Just to clarify the chapter he belongs to does not push AR's. A chapter in the eastern part of the state does. -

NYB.....I know more former members than I know current members and that is counting the current members on here. THeir spin on the corssbows and their success (or lack of) in holding members tells me all I need to know about them.
