Culvercreek hunt club replied to growalot's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I think there is about 6,800 acres between the two lakes. It was open for hunting before the state bought it. watch out for any forcast northerly or southerly winds. -

Remington 870 12 gauge question
Culvercreek hunt club replied to jfarrell90's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Midway and several places on line have them. cover the place you will drill with masking tape, mark the location and use a high quality (sharp) drill of the correct size. This style bit works best becasue the tip holds it on center and the tips on the edge of the bit reduce the amount of splintering on the hole edges. http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/tools/Drills-Drivers-Bits/Bits-Woodworking/woodboring-drill-bits-irwin-49615?utm_source=biz_shop&utm_medium=shp&utm_term=B225791&utm_campaign=Bits-Woodworking-biz_shop&infoParam.campaignId=WZ Good Luck. -

If the gun alraedy has the studs then you only need to by a set of swivels. Gander, dicks and even Walmart would have the swivels. -
Starting a cooperative?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to josephmrtn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
SOunds like a great way to introduce the Co-op topic to the adjacent landowners. That could be common ground that gets it all started for you. Focus on locking it up tighter than a drum this year and make sure it is all posted legally. Make a few examples of the first trespasser/ poacher you see and word will get out. -
Rideau River and canal in Canada. Easy drive from us and well worth it. 3 of us on a guided boat and landed 35 Muskies in 3 days.

Not to take a side road, but the one comment made me think back to when I took the Bow Hunter Education course. They strongly suggested using a 3 blade over a 4 or a 2. They showed us the muscle mass on the sides of a deer and actually did a demonstration using a picture frame with hundreds of rubber bads stretched across it in the patterns of the muscle groups. If I remember correctly their assertion was not on the actual cutting of the internal organs but the cutting of the surrounding muscle which would allow a better blood trail. When they shot different style arrows through the frames the broad heads cut the bands and it was amazing how many more rubber bands the 3 blade cut over the 2 or 4 blade. They said, because of the pattern of the muscles you are more likely to have a blade cut along the gran of the muscle and not across it. This would allow less blood through and less of a blood trail. For what it is worth.

I think I know where he is going. (a flatter shooting arrow leaves less difference in yardage errors). But What he is missing is the process of aiming is a 3 demensional process. yardage, elevation and windage. That inexperience archer he is trying to give more confidence in taking a marginal shot is just as likely if not more to pull or push a shot left or right at increasing distances.

So they have had 3 criminals on the cover in their history?
-
No idea. Trying to get it as flat and fast as possible I guess. In my experience I have needed to be able to hold it for a longer time frame than try to reach out to a long distance. The hoyt I bought is only a 60# max setting so I don't even have to worry about temptation to increase it...lol

Cow corn vs sweet corn?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Jrs5144's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Hope for Cow corn. If it is sweet corn it will be picked before season opens and nothing will be left. As Grow said, many of the modern harvesting techniques for cow corn leave very little compared to years ago. The equipment just seems more efficient. Now for the good news. If it is sweet corn and it is picked they may try to get in another crop. Happened on property I hunted last year. THey planted rye and it made a great deer magnet once the other crops were gone and especially when the first snows hit. They were out there pawing every night. -
I shoot 60# but know guys that push 80

I hope we all can pull that off

It is a publicity move to stop their death roll. To be honest I didn't even know they were still printing it.

Where did that survey come from that the "majority" are against crossbows? I haven't seen that one.

Exhausted after taking these 2 for 2
Culvercreek hunt club replied to shawnhu's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Just an FYI. On the nuisance tags it is about an all bets off type of thing. Most regulations that apply during the season, don't for that application. The 500' rule comes to mind as one that DOES still apply yet you can hunt after dark with the aid of a light.
