  1. do a bit of work on speciality butcher shops near you or even online. If you are donating there is specific information needed for who got the contribution. If would be great if you had a reciept with their ID number on it. I get a receipt liek this when I donated things like clothing to the Boy Scouts clothing drive.
  2. If you itemize use the fair market value and list with your other charitable deductions. Never deducted it but I sure love the thought.
  3. You should shoot one, They are fun to shoot but are no wheres near as quiet as the modern compounds.
  4. Every event will have conspiracy nuts. Kick a rock and one will crawl out. I thik there have been too many looking at reporting errors as facts. The liberal slanted media will always be quick to get news out to make us look bad. In their race to beat the others to the "news" they would trample the truth into the ground. That is what they have turned into. I don't see anything to this point that makes me think there was some big black ops cover up in this. I do raise my eye brow though and what seems to a a vaccum of information about the investigation lately though.
  5. I haven't seen one crossbow post wanting the archery season for only their use. I haven't seen anyone wanting to use a crossbow talking about how the other bow hunters would ruin their hunts. Tying the term :elitist" to crossbow is beyond a stretch.
  6. You guys ever see Fillet Mignon before it is trimmed and cooked? If you enjoy eating it DON"T!!
  7. not rifles....I was speaking of crossbows. The attitude conveyed over and over on numerous threads seems to be opposition becasue of how "they" would be a negative influence on "my" bow hunting.
  8. I can think of some reasons. Say a father that is NOT a bow hunter wants to get his kids into the sport. I thinnk it would be easier for him to instruct and get the kids into it. I also the crossbow would be an easier gateway bow to use for any new archer to learn and become successful with. I can't see where that is a bad thing. Once they get eh hang of it and are able to take some game with it the could very well want a greater challenge and go to a compound and maybe then to a long bow.
  9. You can spout all you want about having not made up your mind but the stench of NYB is clear. I could tellit was only a matter of time. You ARE worried about how it will ruin your "expereince". figures.
  10. Pass a ban on assault weapons but in the new budget cuts 2,000 mental health positions but tags 35 million to administer the ban. Given the criminal amd mental pasts of most of these "mass murderers" that seems a little counter productive
  11. http://www.cameralan...ge=vortexoptics check out the crossfire 2 or the Dimond back. The Viper is nice but may be over what you want to pay
  12. Check out Voetex. I just bought 3 last fall and I love them. Clear optics and I was lucky enough to see some closeouts. picked up the Crossfires in 3-9 and two 4-12's were right around $110. Lifetime warranty.
  13. Doe, how can you not see what is going on? it is the same crew that fed us the line of $hit about the moon landing and Area 51
  14. my favorite gun for Yotes is whatever happens to be in my hand.
  15. Currently crossbow hunters take the hunters education that all hunter must take. I do thiknk the bow course should be added on to use the crossbow since id does share so many of the same issues, concerns and limitations.
  16. That is where I see the cross bow fitting in
  17. You are right in what he said Joseph, but he also added we still have a way to go. we are trending down in 1.5 year old take but as a state we are still higher than the national average and most states. What we do have in this state that many whitetail states don't is a very large are with no doe permits and limited doe take during archery. Those areas really provide the challenge in our state. hard to tell a guy to buy a license and not shoot what might be the only buch they see. I didn't get a chance to ask Kip about areas in other states and how they handle this challenge.
  18. We are glad you enjoyed it. He kept the audience engaged. I would love to see him return for another topic down the road. We have more events coming up as well but for now we are focusing on the April Banquet. (wish I knew there were more site members there)
  19. I think the earlier the better given one constraint. It varies with each kid on wheter they are emotionally ready for all the parts of hunting. There may be 12 year olds that are ready and some that might have difficulty with things like the blood and a possible flopping deer. As a parent we have to curb our desire to share our sport and let the child steer the level of envolvment. (did that sound to head shrinky...lol) We have had other posts here on the evolution of a hunter and I think it really is true. I think many of us like taking on new challenges and as we develop we like the challenges to get harder. I can see kids getting hooke on archery with a crossbow and then developing the skills and wanting a tougher challenge and moving to a compound. I can also see the next move being a longbow. As age and physical issues make that difficult I can also see regressing to a compound again and then back to a crossbow. All in the light of enjoying our sport. I see the same thing happeing with a gun. I actually carried my pistol for a lot of the season this year. I was actually able to take a nice buck and a doe with it. It felt better than if I had used the rifle or shotgun (but I still carried them many times this year and conditions warranted). I see it a a tool and no tool will make the hunter. an unethical "slob: with be an unethical "slob" no matter what they carry, which is what I think WNY was trying to say. Let them be as accurate with the little effort they are willing to put in.
  20. D---again.... I understand your comments but it is all about what the "other" hunters would be doing. Let's say it is 100% included and offers all hunters the opportunity to participate in the archery season. How would their choice to use one or not use one effect you?
  21. There has been a lot of talk about anti-depressants as of late.
  22. I find it ironic that the same group that wants this is so opposed to a voter ID card becasue it would make is difficult for those in ecomomic hardship to exercise their right to vote. They don't seem to have an issue with difficulty with protecting this right. I personally can't see the re-registration. if they have a database and a persons status changes like convicted of a felony then they should just revoke like they do with a drivers license.
