The State Of Our Economy
Culvercreek hunt club replied to nybuckboy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It is a dangerous thing being at the top of your occupational pay scale.. even worse if it is a speacialty area. I told my daughter that no matter what you are making structure you finances around the income you could earn for a job you can get in 1 month. If you can find a job in your industry at your rate of pay in 1 month you are probably at a competative scale (assuming you are a good employee) If you go years and cant find a position in your market at you scale you are either too specialized or overpaid. I was hring folks during our construction high between 2005 and 2010. The asking prices from candidates were way above their ability but help was hard to come by. Those priced above their ability are always the first to go in a downturn. The other ones that took a beating were the engineers that were told by professors (who don't know thier a$$ from their elbows) that you are always worth more to someone that doesn't have you and the best way to move up in wages is to change employers. So I saw many many kids that were 5 years out of school with 4 to 5 employeers on their resumes. That shows no commitment to a position and they are not even considered in a down market for positions that do come up . -
The State Of Our Economy

Let' s say it didn't pass and no foreign trade was allowed. those faoctory jobs making $30 an hour, without competition they go to 35...40...45? where does it stop? The same "corporate greed" that is sendig jobs over seas now would have had Union and worker greed and they still would have been replaced by technology. That machine that can run 24 hours a day, doesn't call in sick and never complains starts to look really good when the wages get inflated. Look at the unemployment numbers. even at 10% I am not surprised and no one should be. I personally know 1 out of 10 of my friends and family that I would not hire for a position if I were hiring. Problem is that 10% would just go on public dole rather than picking fruit. If it wasn't NAFTA there would be some other reason or excuse for failure rather than pricing ourselves out of a job -
Wuss!!!!..lol

Wonder what brain trust set up one hunter regulation to be pitted against another. wht a cluster !^ -
You don't need a heavy tent if you are talking about a few day excursions. I have done it many times in snow in a nylon tent. Get one that is free standing, and vented with a fly. condensation is a killer and it can be almost like rain in there...lol. the tent isn't the important part as long as it is water reisitent. I would put my money in a very good sleeping bag and a full length self inflating air sleeping pad/mat

What prize did I win for being closest without going over...LOL

If you did the work yourself...$8k Looks great. Did you use poured glass on the bar?

OK. confued me a bit. I don't think there is a round .270 win mag...that isn't the wsm. Inside most of out hunting distances you won't see a difference. I know a lot of the guys who a doing accuracy mods on the encores are even dropping down to a 20" barrel and not seeing any significant loss in ballistics. Many are seeing increases in accuracy though. They start talking about things like barrel harmonics and I go to sleep...lol. I am using a .308 Win in a 15" barrel and the the reduced recoil loads I did for it are very very accurate. on teh bench with a bipod i am 5 shots in a quaarter at 100 yards. 1" high. at 200 I am about 15" lower and tennis ball size group. If I do my part.

It is hypocritical to want a right and not take a stance to support it. To use a quote from the movies....It is a big ole $hit sandwich and we all are going to have to take a bite. If you want therights you better consider supporting the one less likely to take them away. And more importanatly you should vote a least to participate in more local elections where you can make a difference.

Just wondering why you would go to a 270 WSM as opposed to the 270? the ammo is more empensive and in a single shot there is no advantage to being in a shorter action.

Not easy at all . That is one of the biggest hurdles that DEC has. WMU's vary in themselves and the differences across our state is even bigger. I see it in the 5 WMU's i hunt. the difference between 5H and 8H is huge They vary in habitat, food sources, hunter density and deer population. 3 of the top 10 biggest bucks I have ever seen were in 5H, I took one and the other two never got shot at by me. the rest of the bucks I have seen only would have had 2 that made and 3 (took one of them) on a side AR. That is a 30 year duration. (no doe tags there). So in a 30 year history I had the chance at 5 that were AR worthy. And I still go back every year. Now in 8H it is a different story. the property hunt has regular sightings of bucks over a 120 class and mature. The majority of yearlings have 3 on a side. The rule would not benefit the area in my view and any percieved benefit would be outwieghed by loss of hunter choice. -

A Sportsman.--I just really have a hard time with other hunters telling hunters how they should be doing it. You hear the "I am only talking my area, not in other areas" then it always drifts to a statewide need. The question that gets asked and danced around when push come to shove and it has been in this thread as well. The proponents love stating the majority favor it. If the majoprity really favored it and had any convistion in their beliefs the state wouldn't have to mandate AR. Wit a majority saying they support it and the yearling harvest still be as high as it is tells me they aren't willing to let them walk....or put in the effort to find the mature ones that did make it through. -

I hunt 5H, 6R, 7R 8H and 8M. Lwt me make a suggestion, don't suppose what I am thinkin or what I mean. Ask and I will clearly tell you,. I am not in favor or AR because it takes away the choices that NY hunters have enjoyed as a tradition. I think themany of the ones that are in favor of it want it becasue they want easier hunting. Let me give you a news flash. Hunting isn't about having a mountable or book buck behind every tree. I think many of the ones supporting it couldn't find a mature buck if their lives depended on it. Even in these areas the have had AR...there were mature bucks prior to AR. I guarantee it...just maybe not within 100 yards of your camps. It was too difficult to hunt them so we now need more of them . Heck if we stack so many mature bicks on a property everybody should be able to stumble across one....right? Just for the record , My self imposed standards are far higher than anything AR's will set. I don' need the govt to setting my goals. ...Now about you. You wone of these parents that thinks every kid should get a medal for playing sports, and a winner and loser shouldn't be identified? -

We set ours up on 2' high concrete piers so critters couldn't live under it. we use OSB tounge and groove sub flooring ot top ....1/2" CDX plywood underneath and 6" of unfaced insulation in th cavity. we have carpet in the bunk room and loft and will be carpeting the main area next summer. Cold feet are never a problem -

I believe it is necessary when one group is trying to shove unwanted change down your throat. The "bend over, grab your ankles and keep your mouth shut about it" just doesn't fly -

But they were talking about the state wide buck take. I think the point they were making is the take is going down even OUTSIDE of AR areas. In AR areas it has to go down. -

Was an interesting article. I guess the frustrating part of e is I structured my career and life around providing for my family and made choices to do that. I hate when the rules change and effect me negatively because someone changes the rules in the middle of the race.
