  1. I had a 32mm on My .06 and was able to use the same rings for my 50mm. (had high rings anyway) Big cheek bones and a Monte Carlo stock made that a requirement. I can definitely see where the bigger objective might lift someones face up out of proper shooting form/alignment. Great point
  2. And FYI a big side by side fridge only weighs about 350 pounds.
  3. You could rent one and do it with the help of some very strong buddies. I would use a cart like this http://www.google.com/products/catalog?pq=refrigerator+moving+cart&hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=13&gs_id=12&xhr=t&q=appliance+dolly&biw=1283&bih=654&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&wrapid=tljp1320683884546016&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=2784068014430948089&sa=X&ei=IQq4Tv2MGIGq2gWxy9jMDQ&sqi=2&ved=0CHkQ8gIwAw# Th extra wheels really help when rolling to balance it. Just make sure to mearuse EVERYTHING. Door clearances and turning. The last thing wyou want is to get it almost through...lol
  4. Only one way to settle the debate Sam....put him on the ground...measure and age the teeth..lol He'll go 3.5 and may make 140. Great buck. When you get him I have a great sausage recipe
  5. Not trying to start throwing $hit around,,,but....lol. Every time I see someone post here about "what scope" there is a wide array of members that are dead set against higher power scopes or scopes with large objectives. I am just curious what you see as a draw back to having one. Ok they may be a bit heavier and you could probably get better glass for the same price in a fixed. But mechanically...if money was not a concern....why not have it. I remember my father saying "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it".
  6. same angle Muzzy? I HATE that placement if it is going in Horizontal. if it truely is 8" sticking out and arrow length is 27...19" should get an exit hole with JG's angle. But....it is bow hunting so anything is possible. JG---Do you have the deer tracking dogs number in your phone?
  7. I assume this just happened? If it was a straight broadside shot and a down angle from a stand, I would say you hit the off side lung. I don't know where yo uare but if the forecast is no precipitation like in WNY I would let it go 3 hours. If it just happened you have daylight on your side. If you can get to the point of this pic without ANY risk of bumping the deer mark the spot. See if there is any blood. If only the amount of arrow you say is sticking out there has to be an exit hole. Good luck.
  8. Well I know many of the Ny sightings are originating from preserves....I don't know of any around Marion. This is a lot closer to me than I care to see. http://www.thetimesofwaynecounty.com/community/marion-hunter-bags-feral-hog/
  9. He'll I missed that part of the post.....the OP really shot a horse? NO wonder he didn't get penetration...lol....jk
  10. Nice little four point just came trotting right into my grunt...standing broadside at 15the yards all puffed up and ready to scuffle....only have an hour left and then to camp
  11. Geno...Have yo had a chance to see how they perform on bone?
  12. Well Stalker let me say this. The chart topic had been selltled until you just brought it up again...lol. It marginally fit into the topic because the shot was affected by loss of daylight. (100% legal though). I don't want to put wordsi nto any of the other postes mouths but for me I knew the Op didn't do it on purpose...Knew he made a choice to back out that he thought was best. I have talked to him on PM to explain my comments and I know he feels like crap...we all would. I took exception to what came across in his comments as an entitlement to the shot and the statement that he had No regrets in his actions. I also didn't care for his reaction to the suggtestion that not shooting was a possibility. Let's face it. He took the shot he felt he could have made. I don't believe there is one member out there that releases that arrow with the intention to wound a deer. And just like everyone has been saying here...bad things happen. Read the other threads..."hit a brinch I didn't see"....Deer turned as I released....on and on. For me---I would have chosen not to be in the stand at that point given the weather. I never had a problem with his choices...we all make them and we all have to live with them. Don't get twisted up and upset if someone offers a posibility other than your actions. Take the opinion...use it or discard it as you determine best for you...but learn from it. I am betting he has the dog tracking folks on speed dial on his phone now....I added a number based on these threads.
  13. I had tried the spitfires that one year and I think they took much energy away from penetration to deploy the blades.
  14. I am really looking at penetration as opposed to whether we got/lost the deer or not. I think if we hit the heart with a sharpened stick or a knitting needle it would be terminal.,..lol. How did they penetrate?
  15. I know it is subjective and there are literally 100's of variables. I can't tell from what you posted ...you feel the mechanicals are just as acceptable in performance as fixed?
  16. Let me start by saying I am not trying to start a firestorm, just looking for some insite from past experiences. I have been reading posts about wounded and lost deer. I have been bow hunting since 83 and have taken 20 deer with the bow. My first bow was a whitetail 2...then proline...bowtech and now a hoyt. The bowtech was my fastest bow and it was the only one that when I shot a deer I didn't get a pass through. That deer was also the only one that I ever used a mechanical broadhead on. Quartering away..perfect shot and didnt' make it out of the other ribcage. Let me also say the furthest I have taken a deer at was 28 yards. (with the whitetail 2) when that one didn't pass through I switched right back to fixed blade and poof...pass throughs again. This was before these rear deploying blade types and I hear they are supposed to be better. I was just wondering what you guys have seen on arrows not getting full penetration with your broadheads. I am shooting the G5 Montecs for the first time this year and first time using a cut on contact instead of a chisel point. My thoughts are also that if a fixed blade ends up not passing through and it is pulled or drops out it would have to cut on the way back out as well....I think we lose that posibility with the mechanicals don't we?
  17. WOuld have thought Western Ny would have had some news by now.
  18. Seems like it would have money better spent to say..."Hey check the tread on your tires it is gonna snow soon"...or "hey increase you following distance on slick roads". Wanna see some waste---how about all the court and police time being eaten up becasue the illegal alien tha killed the lady out by Rochester was ...get this ...OUT ON BAIL from a previous arrest. Seems our Gov has decided to have our police NOT check fingerprints on the system to determine if they are in the country legally. How many man hours is this eating up.....not to mention the poor lady and her family. I don't want this to be political ...it just seems like common sense to me. I am not a fan of lawsuits but if that was my wife I would have lawyers crawling up the officials back sides
  19. I got the same pic in an email yesterday claiming it happened at a Gander Mountain. I don't care if it happened in someones garage...that had to hurt like hell.
  20. Get on the phone and see if the dogs are available. I would bet it would be a slam dunk before the rain
  21. I have never seen that without an exit hole. I think your thought are right. High hits usually take a while to get blood o the ground. how did the shot look front to back?.inline with vitals but high?
  22. not sure what kind of freezer you have Dom...but the best thing to do it NOT open it while th epower is out. They are insulated pretty well and If is is still frozen it will be fine. If it thaws I would toss it. If you have any place by you to buy dry ice a 40 pound block got me through a tough outage once. It gae freezer burn to the stuff it touched but saved the rest of it. Might be worth a look into to try and save what you have. FYO my freezer was a chest type.
  23. there is room there. just as in humans the lungs expand and contract. but to my other point....can you get through there at 15 yards out of a treestand? As DOc pointed out this is probably developed into a topic that should be taken off this thread. I think the understanding of the deers anatomy would be worth a discussion. especially from different shot angles. (we could skip discussions on the poop chute though, that got beat up earlier..lol)
  24. I went to 22 once and that was becasue I wanted to see over a rise. the terrain was like a gully. Never again. I can't imagine trying to get a vital hit from that height.
