And that post might have held some credibility had you just said that and not edited the post as soon as I asked what was on the ground. If your friend is a poacher I would pick my friends a little better

or the one he posted about taking after his 3 year chase of it was taken that way as well.....headings on the cameras sure look similiar to me.

Culvercreek hunt club replied to deuce315's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I am thinking 2-1/2 based on a body comparison to the doe...if he is older than that ---the doe is huge...lol...doe is mature...take her in a heart beat -

Do you shoot the doe if the fawns are with her?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to mossy725's topic in Deer Hunting
just down south...up north shoot the cub out of the group and it is ok. I think is is more about population control....in the SZ they wanted the population to rise on the bears.....and it did...lol. bet you see the regs change so to mimick what they have up north on the bears in the near future -
Boy I wish I was in a stand down there right now. nothing like the first snow fall. it really freaks this years fawns out...lol

What is the best choke for rabbit hunting
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Dave's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I would choose 6's as well in high brass. if you are walking an jump shooting so the shots are closer you could probably get low brass. If you are behind a dog I would grab what Doe suggests....he is spot on. If running whites i go to 4's but cottontails get 6's -

Acorns, Deer Movement, and its effects on Hunting
Culvercreek hunt club replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
what I am having a problem with this year is the standing corn. Not very many oaks in the block I hunt but the deer hav abandoned the soybean (which they do every year until the corn is gone and the snow comes) across the street from where I hunt the is about 300 acres of standing corn. I stopped the other night and the ears on the side of the raos are still moist and some stalks even still have green tinted leaves. It could be weeks before they take it down...I just know that field is probably holding every deer in teh neighorhood. -
NO true...shot gun needs to be 20 ga or larger...no .410...no 28's
-
They do the same thing is areas that have road/bridge access to salmon and trout streams during the runs....kinda gets old feeling like the redheaded stepchild of the state
-
off the EC website Shotgun - is a firearm with a barrel length of at least 18 inches that uses shells that are nonmetallic except for the base.
-
Is that a question or a statement someone made to you? The .410 is ALWAYS considered a shotgun because of the shell construction. I have heard "tales" of guys shooting .41 amgs out of old single shot .410 shotguns but I wouldn't recomment it.
-
buy it form him....those sweet 16's are very nice guns
-
I know they say you can't use one for deer hunting and to be honest I have never been a fan of the 20 ga for deer (just my personal opinion and observations). BUT....the actually have better ballistics and knock down power than a .41 magnum pistol round and you can use one of them for deer. Some of the laws in NY just don't make sense. I can't use my 30-30 in areas of shotgun hunting but can take out a pistol chambered in .30-30, .30-06 or bigger. I have a mosberg .410. it is a bolt action and was the second gun I was given to small game hunt with (after I proved myself on a single shot 12ga...36" barrel and full choke...that was an eye opener for a yourgster...lol) That .410 does throw a crazy accurate slug.
-
I have an old Remington 1148 in 16ga. it has a poly choke on it and even though it has a setting for slugs it is hard to hit the broad side of the barn if you are standing inside of it...lol. great small game gun though.

278# Italy Valley QDM Co-Op Buck
Culvercreek hunt club replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
I don't think that is out of wack, Doe. This guy hasn't even started to run does yet. If he dressed out at 222 that is only 22 pounds he would have to drop to be a 200 pound buck and that is not that rare down there. Finger Lakes have some great Ag in them. I could pictues this buck being down 22 pounds by Thanksgiving weekend. The one I got last year was around that weight and I got him the last weekend of Gun season. -
Summit Razor making noise
Culvercreek hunt club replied to NY Region 3 Trapper's topic in Bow Hunting
I have had the cables/straps do it on very smooth bark trees too. that initial loading when you stand sqeaks as the rubber moves slightly over the smooth bark. If it is a very new stand I have taken very fine sand paper and take the factory smooth mill finish off the rubber cable. It stopped it for me but it was long ago and they were the big flat straps. -
Not sure what state land you hunt but down in Area 7 the state land is mostly vacant by that time. once in a great while you catch a car there but not often. Find thick cover and stay put if you don't want to still hunt. I really try to stay on stand all day becasue of the other hunter going out for lunch and coming back for evening watch. If you do like still hunting this time of the season is great becasue there isn't as much traffic in the woods. The old wise ones are hunkered right down by this time. I would find the areas that no other hunter would be willing to go...thick, nasty, flooded. funny how those deer find the smallest spots to hid.
