  1. I have heard other similiar stories about the blood trails with the copper solids. I haven't used my shotgun in 4 years becasue I have been hunting with my ML. When I did I had great success with the Barnes expander bullets in the 3" Federals. Fist sized exit holes. BUT. if you took that quartering away shot and got into the off side shoulder it was ruined. I would think any major manufacturer with an agressive hollow point (like the Barnes Expander) of any of the new polymer tipped bullets (which force expansion) would work very well. It alwsy amazes me how the fat on a deer can act like a cork in the bottle. Just gotta make the neck of the bottle too big...lol.
  2. We have 3 built box blinds on our lease. I had a few buddies hunting the mid week of Thanksgiving when all the rain hit. I was able to stay dry and sit all day long. I have spent days like that in a tree stand and is sucks the fun right out of it for me. If I can stay out there all day i feel like my chances go up. (Dad's is the only one with a heater)...this year anyway...lol
  3. I might know someone intersted in teh 357 or 38. I just bought one.
  4. Of anyone on her, Grow< I would have thought you would have been the most sensative to a possible infringement of the 500' regulation.
  5. Maybe john can get a button right next to the "LIKE" button that says that. LOL
  6. NOt sure of the statutes and exact laws but I have 3 family member that are or were in law enforcement. They spoke several times of taking ECO's with them on various outings because their ability/freedom of entry and search was less encumbered than that the police or troopers.
  7. It isn't .357 or .38 special is it...lol The local police will take it. They are constantly getting rid of ammo they take in in weapons.
  8. Well there we have two differnt sides of the spectrum. Shawn in just a grunt tube and earth spray and Jen is fully clothed...which property do you guys want to sit out on watch?..lol
  9. I think location in the state makes a big difference on the pricing. There are many clubs that have shooting but no hunting and the prices are very resonable. I used to belong to one that had a non working membership of $20 ...but only rifle and pistol ranges. no skeet or trap.
  10. I know...3 pages of praise and he has a gripe?....Who knows. Maybe guilt is getting the better of him. Keeping him up at night and we all know that lack of sleep can make folks cranky
  11. What is left hand? I know there is right handed and then WRONG handed...lol
  12. Doc, I reported to different baitingc ases to the DEC and to date NOTHING has been done. I am not sure if it is the budget cuts or what but there seems to be a lack of interest. Even the post that had the list of poaching and such seem to indicate the baiting only comes in conjunstion with a stronger or first offense. I don't remember seeing one ticket for baiting on it's own.
  13. Did sound a little like the time someone was going to shoot her goats. Probably about as challenging of a hunt...lol
  14. I be thatthe.t it would come up 5.9, if the doe had distinguishing markings that made it identifable. I think the ethics questions should ne the same if buck, doe or fawn. You just don't get the notifying press for the latter two.
  15. No matter how slow the day or the season is I imagine that the buck of a lifetime could be just 3 steps out of sight when I pull the trigger on a squirrel. Personally I will save it for after the deer season closes and then hit them hard.
  16. Well let me try this. I can not say that the buck was taken illegally or legally. I can say from the arcs that I swung form adjacent properties that the buck couldn't have been taken legally with just the municipality boundries and the caretaker permission. It would have REQUIRED addition permission of adjacent landowners and depending on the location of the shot....could be multiple.
  17. JMP---I hope you get your wish 10 times over. Prayers are with him, and your family
  18. I know what would be going through my head...probably the screw in steps in my tree as I passed out and fell out of my stand.
  19. Thank all...everything for a reason. Just wish we had a little heads up. My wife and I are actually getting each other a Christmas gift---Driver's Ed classes for our Daughter....best present we could give each other is to skip the stress for us...
  20. I have seen that before written a little differently. Last sentence was-----It was his life." What a thought though. would really change all of our priorities ..huh?
  21. Well I am wishing for a job for my wife. Seems her boss (store owner) sold the store and the new owner was to take it over today. She was told yesterday that her services will no longer be needed. Merry freaking Christmas.
  22. some of the TC's were made with special runs for stores with stock options not normally available through TC. My Encore was this way
  23. I found that I couldn't keep my feet warm while on stand too. Until I bought a diferent pair of boots for when I plan on standing a lot. Trapped air and good circulation is key and shoving a extra pair of socks (regardless of tha material) in boots sized for one pair never worked. The boots I wear on stand are a full size larger than the normal ones I wear if I am walking. It has made a worl of difference and the boots are actually the exact same boots I use for both. I have UA but I just don't like the compression and it seems very expensive for what you are getting. I have had great luck with mil surplus silks and there are lots of sites out there to buy them through. The polyesters are great but online4 sizing for mil surplus can be tough. correst sizing is everything.
