Culvercreek hunt club replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Deer Hunting

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I think that sales are down but I have been wondering how many of the ones we lost we the folks that usually only went out on opening day or weerkend. I have two very good friends that I wouldn't call hunters but they did go out on opening day and the first weekend. when the license price went up they didn't go out any more. I don't think the increase in cost has keep many that have a passion for the sport out of it. But like my two buddies who didn't know their butt from their elbow in the deer woods....they did move the deer around...lol. Some of the woods I hunt a large parcels. It is uncommon to see other hunters in some of these areas. a couple guages I use for participation is frequency of shots and hunter traffic o the roads. I can remember lines of taillights heading out of town on opening morning. I don't see that any more.- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Burt, I agree. When the huntong gets tough you have to change it up. I think the popularity of stand hunting hs reduced hunter movement and the effects deer movement. Now imagine a statewide AR and see how much hunter movement happens then. Hunters will really be holding tight. The odds of accurately identifying points on a fleeing deer is a bigger chance than I would take.- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
You really are a tool, thehunter. I have never questioned one of your observations or any one elses there. I have questioned you use of the term majority....majority of who you know...k...majority of who your hunting buddies know....k...but I still don't the majority of all hunters. And the title of the thread does not say AR in sullivan county. What are your thoughts, so my resistance to their imposition isn't too big a stretch on here. But I am sure that is way above you very empty and emotional head- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I hunt areas that are damn near impossible to see a mature buck...and others where they are fairly common. That does not change my definition and has little bearing on a successful season. it is sad you feel the need to impose your definition of success on others. I have said before I do not shoot 1.5 yo's any longer. I just don't share your arrogance and try to impose my views on others. Management aside it speaks to your character...or lack there of I should say....let's not beat around the bush...I don't like you...don't like your imposing tendencies and your general tone. That said...if you ever want to get together and figure out the whole locker problem, you just let me know. I would be very happy to discuss it with you- 1885 replies

Let me guess....you got your a$$ stuffed in a locker every day at school...didn't you, thehunter...you are pitiful that you could put yourself so high on your imaginary pedestal. Your attitude is just the thing that will turn off those on the fence about management changes.- 1885 replies

Sorry to hear about the marriage. I can understand your perspective. I can also see some of the mentality in some of the folks that gun hunt only. It is not everyone. It is a fine line when we start painting with a broad brush. I have stated in this thread that my desire to see the crossbow in bow season is purely selfish. My father can no longer draw a bow and under the current requirements fpr disability he can't use a xbow. I would love to share the early fall woods with him again. I personally would not choose to use one even if they were included in bow. I like the challenge of bow. I don't know the history of Ohios seasons. But ny has a long standing tradition of gun hunting. I believe any shortning of the gun season will meet with stiff resistance. I have said and still hold...the one buck rule would probably fly and might help aid in the discipline of passing a buck. It is never going to change overnight and with our hunting numbers headed down we can't afford to make a mistake. Any chance must have support and be phased slowly. -

Hurry WNY...sounds like he's inviting u for a beer...lol

I could have used blocks , timbers or concrete. Figured concrete was the way to go. It was a challenge since we are back on a logging ROW a mile off the paved road. Emtorn- there is another timber company that has property right near mine. I cant remember the name. I can look on the tree signs next time I am down. I don't know of any in the CNY area. Timber leases were big up north but I think those companies hae backed off on those leases now or got really expensive because they were such big blocks of property. i will keep my eyes open

Do Bobcats kill deer? I guess so who'da thunk it.
Culvercreek hunt club replied to erussell's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Cats are probably pound for pound the best predators out there. they are just build for killing. Makes me glad I wasn't running around when the sabre tooths were roaming the earth. -
Fighting or Queer Deer? You decide.
Culvercreek hunt club replied to CNYScott's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Now there is a reason to NOT have mature bucks running around the woods...lol -
I agree...and like so much of what we do during hunting and scouting and really any persuit....apply a little courtesy and common sense and it usually works out fine. I try to put my self in the mind set of......what if someone did this to me. If I conclude it would bother me.....probably shouldn't be doing it to others
-
You are allowed 400 sf. they usually let you build after 2 years there. our heat is a wood stove and we bring in our drinking water. I am sending you a PM to explain some of how we did things so I don't bore everyone.
-
That would burn me too G2. I think DEC covers that in the book
-
WNY...that is the neat thing about a public raodway...key word...public. The DEC even recognizes it as a legitimate activity so much they outline how to do it legally....and illegally
-
The must have had a tax increase. we are on year into our second 3 year lease and oue is 2,050 for 110 acres. I know they basically pass the tax increases through on renewals. I looked at some other timber companies but few allowed the building of cabins so it was worth the few extra bucks for us.

Culvercreek hunt club replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
It doesn't WNY. But this same guy who hates gun hunters and the traditions in NYs is always touting the Ohio program for their quality of deer. But he doesn't want their legal implements. I think the only season modification he would be happy with is ONLY him bowhunting all year and no one else...lol. slefish...self serving and (well better skip the last one.)...I think you get my drift -
Leaving your climber on a tree???
Culvercreek hunt club replied to longislandhunter's topic in Bow Hunting
I have one big old heavy climber I use as a lok on. it is a bear to climb with and I don't like it. I got it into position and used a ratchet strap at the base to pull it to the tree. It is solid as a rock and very safe and easy to get into and out of from my climbing sticks. Like any stand......fall protection system...ALWAYS. -
Ditto what Burt said. We lease through Cotton Hanlon and Bob O'Brien is a stand up guy. They have a lot of different size properties but most are souther tier and PA. I think Cortland and Ithaca is about as far north as they come. with lease and insurance it will run you about $18 an acre each year. 3 year leases
