  1. I think i has alot to do with the area you hunt as well. Up North you can really have a go get them approach. If your honeyhole is a 25 acre brush lot next to an apple orchard surrounded by AG fields or you are in a rural residential area.....that same approach will be limited.
  2. great...their own discretion....now why to I doubt that will make me sleep easier...lol
  3. isn't that the same process but using a laser bore sighter seems like a lot less hassle.
  4. I would hope so. That would be a deterrant to some getting involved
  5. They are out there in other units too...without the assistance of AR's. WNY has been producing slobs for years. ADK bucks from teh big woods...while not always frequent....are massive and real trophies
  6. I knew driving was going to come into the topic...lol. I would be the first to line up to have periodic testing for that one, Doc. There are a lot of folks that couldn't pass a driver's test now even though they did once.
  7. Here are my two largest. one ADK buck and the 8 is a WNY. I have more 8's in the 100-125 range but I can't spend any more marriage brownine points until I get one bigger than is already mounted...lol. I hate to say it but have missed several larger than these two
  8. I don't think you are going to find one that will turn it around in these few days. I could do it all for you tomorrow night if you called gander to see if they have the mount and rings. If you have all the parts I can do it in about a half an hour
  9. that is why the bull barrels are so popular. you don't have to swing them nearly as hard
  10. If I ever went home and said a teacher had spanked me there would have been no conversation. I would have gotten my butt kicked right away and the teacher probably would have gotten a fruit basket from my folks for Christmas...lol
  11. his buddy is headed to the range on Monday but just lookin gto get on paper. I hate going out to the range with no bore sighting. depending on the model....( I have done it like this with bolt actions)...bolt removal and a line up with your eye looking down the back of the barrel hase saved me more than a few rounds. I love my laser range finder...gets me on paper and is a great confidence check after a long trip to see if anything got knocked
  12. That doesn't need to be written permission does it?
  13. 20....I see no issue with thei scenario you posted. There is no difference between that and any number of shows I see on TV. Look at any program showing a pronghorn or muley hunt. A lot of those guys drive .....see and animal.....make a stalk and shoot it. no difference...specifically since you have permission to hunt there. You do have to understand though, that there are lots of guys who will do the same on property they don't have permission to hunt, are not familiar with the terrain or who might be hunting it and may actually take that shot right out the window. I think those are the "slobs" being addressed here
  14. I had a mossberg 9200 and loved that auto loader. handled anything I put in it. on 2 occassions I fell walking in the swap out in Iroquois and plugged it full of mud. When I got to the blind location...broke it down, rinsed with swamp water and finished the entire day without missing a beat. I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it
  15. No disrespect guys....but guns and women are nothing alike. I would let any of you try my guns...the latter....not so much...lol
  16. Heck Steve...I don't even put any in the Mag. They hold more than one? Deerslayer. I was serious about the over oiling. oil it and wipe all parts dry. if you can wipe any off with your finger you have too much on it. I knew a guy that was an engineer at Remington and way having cycling problems with my 1100. he stripped it down and showed me I had too much oil in it. I haven't had any issues since.
  17. I have the 11-87. cantilever mount and bird barrel. I love it but to be honest I don't use it for deer anymore, just turkey, duck and goose. I carry my encore ML. I actually like a heavier gun and they just seem to handle better for me. especially on ducks. the tendency to stop the swing on a heavirer gun seems less likely to me. just my opinion. I have shot all kinds of loads and never had a jamming problem. one thing i have noticed ...just like the old 1100....light oil and wipe dry. they do not like heavy oil...especially in cold weather. so until the heavy 1187 gives me an arm ache as I age.....I am sticking with her...lol. Matt black with black syn stocks with 26" VR barrel and a Cant rifled barrel was out the door under a grand in 2001
  18. I like 250 grain. you have to confirm how anything will shoot in your guns but I would start as a baseline with the same for both guns. why have to buy different powder and different bullets. Then evaluate the performance you require. If you are hunting property that a 100 yard shot is the max. do you need touching patterns or would you be satisfied with a 3" group. If both guns put your chosen bullets in a 6" circle at 100 yards with your chosen powder I would keep the loads the same for both guns. A lot to be said for having the ability to share rounds and powder in the field. ...slip...fall....wet powder.. opps forgot my possibles bag.....no problem if you both shoot the same loads
  19. I have no idea. Unless I see one mounted I couldn't say for sure...lol. If this keeps up out here with the snow I may be doing a still hunt on snow shoes. Feel bad for our members in the southern region 9 and those at the lake Ontarion east end counties. Might be touhg even out here by me. I have areas of the property that have grass showing and others with 4' drifts. Official total before last nights snow fall was 14 inches and we probably got 3 last night
  20. It is going to sound pretty caveman and I know I will get hammered for this but think back....probably should have put this in the Good ole days thread. Remember when your Mom or Dad caught you screwing up and you got you a$$ kicked. you lipped off to your mother and you might as well lay on the floor right then...because it would save you the fall whn Dad got his hands on you. you would not sooner steal because of the shame and stigma that was associated with it.....and them apply the ass whoppin on top of it. You found someone stealing your stuff....you kicked their butt and it was done. no charges...no lawyers...they didn't do it again because they knew what was waiting. these low life scum of society have no consequences to their actions. They work the system in every aspect of their lives. Sure we have them in the hunting community but they are in every walk of life and until they are held accountable for their actions it will never stop. I think the punishment fitting the crime is crap. the punishment should exceed the crime to really be a deterant. Thinking we might need to adopt the ole wacking the hand off of a theif thing. think of the jobs we can create with a new industry of just making left gloves
  21. That is the first thing that came to me this morning after reading the recent updates here. I just couldn't bring my self to type a response on the damn phone. I probaby wouldn't have an issue with it depending on the test. If we are talking a 6" circle at 60 yards....a little unreasonable for bow testing. how about 6" at 20 for Bow. 6" at 50 off hand for gun and 6" at 150 for the cross bow...lol. sorry couldn't resist. all tongue in cheek but I did do a similiar test to get into a normally not opened bow area out here in Rochester. didn't get drawn for the permit but you had to qualify in order to hunt.
