smoker modifications
Culvercreek hunt club replied to 2012_taco's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I've seen people do just that with an old Weber Charcoal grill. -
Just wanna be clear. Wasn't taking any issue with the miss, shit happens to us all. I was just commenting about leaving a safety off. Seems like a recipe for disaster in my book.

If that doesn't work out for you you can try what I did. Just put an inline gas ball valve on the supply side of the propane smoker and before the units High Med Low valve. I can run at 160-170 using that adjustment. We just did 100# of bologna and 70# of hot dogs this weekend and since I don't use high temp cheese in the hot dogs I try to stay under 180 so the cheese doesn't melt down. it works well. -
Cory, Some of the units out there are over the counter or bull or cow. I think it's 80 and 81. Do you go with a guide or do you go DIY?

Practice and know you firearm. There is NO excuse to ever do what you mentioned. ever.

Need help cleaning up knives and sheaths...

I agree and I also like to run the blade length ways as well on the away spin. I have two bench grinders and they spin opposite so it's tough for me to give general directions...lol -

Dan, if you have a Harbor Freight near you and a bench grinder, I can't recommend these enough for saving some of that elbow grease. I have a couple I put on and off. some to run polishing chemicals and others for more aggressive rubbing compounds. https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-spiral-cotton-buffing-wheel-69700.html -
Some folks on here can't tell the difference between a preference and a driving desire. Turn the clocks back a few years when the DEC had that brain fart and made couple weeks doe only during archery in the high population areas. I didn't hunt. Was it becasue I wasn't gong to hunt and all I wanted was to shoot a buck? nah. I was more or less just protesting and not giving them what they wanted. Most years those first two or three weeks are when I am shooting does anyway. But if that regulation had stuck I sure would have been out there in subsequent years. I do some scouting and some years even toss in some plots. Even have run cameras in years past. Just trying to better my odds. I like to think I am a decent hunter but most of my good bucks are just a byproduct of my hunting not a byproduct of me hunting big bucks. if that makes sense. If I am in a stand and a doe and a spike and a 150 class buck walk out I am going to take the shot at the 150 all day long. Why, becasue I live to hunt big bucks and they are what define me? Nah. but they don't come around very often and that is what makes them special. I don't see one every day and that is why my heart races more than normal when a doe walks out. I can't even tell you the number of doe I have shot in my hunting career. But what i would call really good bucks I could count on one hand. Should be about 4 hands if I hand't screwed them up..lol
-
I read what you were saying as they only include Good bucks and not putting in those "non shooters" or inferior animals. my bad.
-
Actually this driving reason that got me out of bed this year didn't involve me even thinking I was going to be taking a big buck, or any deer for that matter.
-
Well aside from ads these are the bucks I see that DEC included in the regulations guide. I don't see anything that is unrealistic for NY or supports your comment.
-
I disagree. I could buy it cheaper but I would know how it was handled and what was in it for the most part. AND I would be able to enjoy the meat knowing I was responsible to every aspect of it being on my plate.

7th Annual Banquet
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Greater Rochester Southern Tier QDMA
We are about a month out from the Early Bird Deadline for the General Raffle Ticket sales. Attendance sales are ahead of last year so don't wait if you plan on going. General raffle pre-sales are 2 for 1 in the packages and each $250 General Raffle pack gets one gun of the year ticket. This is the only way to get a ticket in this drawing. https://secure3.convio.net/deer/site/Ticketing;jsessionid=00000000.app358a?view=Tickets&id=101147&NONCE_TOKEN=622F7C2D1FEAAEB1446197F8658C3 I Just found out that we have an auction item that I was hoping to get again. It will be for a weeks use of a Outer Banks NC vacation home. It will be for a specific week. Last year it was the end of August 18-25th and we expect about the same time frame but will have that confirmed prior to the banquet. Beautiful, quiet accommodations for 10 people (two king bedrooms each with adjoining bathroom with walk-in showers, one queen bedroom including two single beds and full bath and a queen sleeper sofa in the game room with a 1/2 bath), includes linen service. Large living area, custom kitchen and game room with four flat screen TV’s, surround sound, wireless high speed internet access throughout and an elevator. Newly furnished in 2018 (pictures on the web haven’t been updated with new furnishings). Two furnished decks on the 2nd and 3rd floors with views of the beach…only a one minute walk to the beach across the street and…just a 12-hour drive from Rochester. Take a look at the pictures. It is beautiful and did I mention the private beach is just across the street? lol. http://reservations.emeraldislerealty.com/properties/a-paradise-found -
When I got my Hoyt Carbon Element the second year they came out it was $1,500 for the bare bow. By the time I got it dressed up I was 2 grand in. Then I had to add arrows and a new hard case. So then I was pushing 2,200. I keep a compound a long time and don't turn them around, so I can see the price point on this. It's basically ready to shoot with arrows and a hard case. Not for everyone but If I lived in a state that allowed them all season and the archery season was long like some states, I'd do it.

That is the post of 2019 so far. Lmfao

who gives a crap? really? I can think of about 2 million better uses of money than this.
-
let's jut average that and say 15 miles. now look at the deer density across just our state on a county by county basis. take a 7.5 mile radius around all those data points that are bucks and see the over lap. Then look at this breeding area over the last 200 years. It's suck a melting pot there is no way to reach a determination. even if you could test the deer and site you would need a huge database to compare against to find anything out. Actually who give s a flying F. whether there is a new world record or not, whether there was cheating or not, my 2019 season will still be the same. lol

That is the game. Trust me, while the online shows the rules and the play, it gets a lot more wild when folks stretch their hands.

Come on....don't...this is just too good.

I bought a tractor
Culvercreek hunt club replied to goosifer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
There are only about 3 foods that are on my "I'm not trying it or eating it" list. TOP of the list is beets, cottage cheese and creamed corn. I'd puke just driving that tractor knowing there were beets int he tires...lol -

I agree on dumping the turf tires unless you are mowing your lawn with it. I am not a fan of loaded tires though. a real pain to have the tires worked on. I'd opt for a 3 point weight box instead for the counter weight. . -
