Elmo, I know your a night owl man, haha, but getting settled in at that time and leaving at that time... You know that's no good for your chances at seeing deer! You weren't in the woods at your best times at seeing deer to shoot. Like someone else said, I don't know your schedule for today, but you know the best times to see deer moving buddy! Me for example, today I got into my stand at ~1:00PM and had to leave at 3:20ish... That was just the best I could manage today in the woods because of my schedule with work/school. As for not taking the head-on shot, I agree with your decision 100%. Not worth taking it. You made the right choice, dont let anyone else tell you differently. And to answer some of your questions directly... 1) Morning or evening sit? To get the best odds of shooting a deer, BOTH. That's obvious tho. The more time in the woods/stand the better obviously. Personally I have seen more deer in the early AM, then in PM hunts. 2) Kicking up deer near the entrance/road at 5:30PM and at 7:30AM? That tells me you are in your stand too late and/or out too early, and possibly not setup close enough to the areas they are traveling.

M M M M M M MONSTER BUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck everyone. I'll be heading out for a late hunt this afternoon

Took the words out of my mouth. A .177 traveling at that speed is almost useless, way too fast for that size and weight of a pellet. I will take a ~900 FPS .25 cal pellet any day over that.

Good luck tonight

They are illegal

Was EXTREMELY close to buying a Benjamin Marauder .25 online yesterday... I really would like one, but I just can't justify dishing out the $460 right now. I also have some HPA tanks from paintball to keep the rifle filled, so I wouldn't have to dish out cash on that atleast, or deal with the dreaded pump that I hear is a real PITA

Yea... oh well. I can legally own a pistol in NYC (must jump through serious hoops!), but now way i can legally own a crossbow.
-
Ok, I got confirmation that crossbows are illegal in NYC.
-
Yes, its a very tricky one... You are only allowed to posses a crossbow in NYC if you are actively hunting... yea, so... I take that as being illegal. At least, that is what I have been told, I have not seen proof, and it has now sparked my interest...I just sent a message to a friend in the license division of the NYPD, i'll see what they say.

Got mine a couple of years ago. I really wish I got it much longer ago. The way the prices go, it should be worth it in my lifetime

Good luck everyone! Have fun out there.

Airgun Squirrel Hunt At Stewart State Forest
SteveNY replied to 13BVET's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Welcome to the site Wolf Creek. I personally havent hunted with an air rifle just yet. I plan on getting one, but not until I get the new pistol I am saving for. -
I have been hunting this area for 17 years. I have shot two buck, one was a 6 pointer, the other was a button buck that I swore was a doe. Couldn't even see the nubs on its head unless you moved the fur away from them. There are some big ones up there also. VERY few and FAR between tho... I suggest hunting elsewhere. I will be changing hunting locations my self this year.
