  1. Just relieved last number could you believe we got 8!!!! So we have 7 and 8 we will all hunt together opening day!!
  2. Just found out an 11 point and a big wide 8 pt were killed by me opening day. Could be the 8 in my avatar????
  3. If this was public land I see no problem going in and looking for the wounded deer. If I saw a truck parked there I would be quite and respectful while looking for the deer. Now if this is in the controlled areas out east on LI I would of told the check in station what was going on to warn hunters in that area you were looking for a deer. We have property in the Finger lakes that has the "White trail" going through it. This is a hiking trail open year around. I have been in my stand at prime time and have had hikers walking through. Shi# happens when land is open to the public.
  4. Hang ons come in, ladders stay out. Loosen up the straps and leave them where they stand.
  5. Kale greens smothered in sardines. Then I'll go coon hunting and they will come running to me….lol
  6. Hey I was going to do this today but forgot. We had 5 people put in their names. So far we got number 7!!!!!!! and number 705. 3 others haven't checked the mail yet. Great idea on joining up with someone. Right now we have pairs going out but will keep everyone posted. BTW last year we went down on standby after the first week and always got in.
  7. I would shoot it no problem. I was almost bitten by a doe one year while slitting the throat. Could you imagine doing that to a buck and he blasts out with one last bit of energy and spikes you with one of his tines.
  8. Hey Grow, Just be careful on the slippery stuff around outside. You don't need to fall to screw up your knee. Best of luck!
  9. The doe I shot was the biggest out of 7 under my stand opening day. Two of the critters were button bucks sparring with each other. I'm sure some off those deer were her offspring. They were old enough to take care of themselves. no problem with taking her. I do understand the other side of the coin with this, we are all different.
  10. You'll be dancing in no time!!! Good luck.
  11. Bear looked out of shape and you can see when he was in the snow, laying there, he was smoking a cigar………probably eats at a dump every night.
  12. Man is he tall. Must be hard to hide those horns, been doing a good job! Could you imagine those things sticking up in the middle of a golden rod field, wow! Good luck!
  13. Good luck Geno! (one less crazy LI driver on the road)
  14. This cracks me up.....We read into the deer too much. Actually I was thinking the same thing coming home. If its above 45 the deer stop moving down below 20 the deer stop moving. Someone should take the posts on this site and do a correlation with the weather. Honestly as I get older I truly believe if you get the opportunity to harvest a deer and waste it, it will bite you in the arse more times than not in the end. extremely true for us weekend warriors.
  15. As I get older the lust to kill a deer fades and is replaced with what I really need in the freezer and what is good for the deer. I have no problems killing a doe, I rather a big doe than a 1.5 year old buck. The little ones are off limits for me, yes they taste good, I just can't see it unless your a first timer. We are all different in the way we feel and the way we hunt.
  16. Was talking to my brother on our way home from camp yesterday. He regretted not shooting a real big spike horn opening day. We are basically weekend warriors headed to camp to deer hunt. I told him unless you are holding out for one of the big boys you better not waste an opportunity. I shot a doe opening morning at 7:00. It didn't scare any of the deer around and I had a nice 8 pt come into a scrape two hours later. She was big and the thought of letting her walk was not an option. As it goes I did not get another chance at a big doe all Thanksgiving weekend. I can't make the last weekend so I'm basically done. Right time right place take the shot and don't regret it.
