Not to beat a dead horse but here we go: In Nebraska's 2009 accidents, six of the shooters were 10 to 19 years old, four were 20 to 29 and two were 40 to 49. In seven incidents, the shooter shot himself or herself. Someone else was shot in five incidents. In two instances, a non-hunter was injured or killed. Three involved illegal activity. Six involved the discharge of a rifle, three a shotgun and three a handgun. Here is the link http://www.omaha.com/article/20100113/NEWS01/100119836/0/NEWS08 Not all hunting incidents involve illegal activity.................

Bubba, So you are telling me every hunting incident is related to illegal activity?? I find that hard to believe, very hard. Second if my brother went off into the woods with a hunting companion and there was an incident it would be investigated. At that point the law would make the decision who was "if" there was any fault. No I would not yell for a stiffer sentence if everything checked out. Last I do not take the opposite side of things just to keep it going, this topic is very important to all of us. We all have opinions that's all.
-
It was all illegal we know that. Was there intent to kill, no. I would not push for a harsher sentence. The individual should be banned from the use of any type of weapon for life. 3-5 years in jail. Imposing a harsher sentence on a Father that mistakingly kills his son, wether legal or not, will destroy the family even more. JMO then IMO they should not be out breaking the law, they would not have to worry about destroying the family. what about the family of the guy he killed? I bet he was someones dad and son. Do they not count? 1 to 3 years indeterminate. that means he could be out in a year. If he drove drunk and killed somene, should he deserve more then? Bubba, You know as well as I that this could of happened in a legal hunting situation. Wether or not they were breaking the law is not the point here. We are just stating our opinions and mine differs from yours. No big deal. This happens in legal and illegal situations and both families suffer in the long run. Hunt smart-Hunt safe.

Yea that was good, hits many topics we talk about here. All should watch.

I guess your talking about me. If you read the article it makes no mention of hunting illegally after dark or with a shotgun at muzzleloader season. Yes if you click on the link with the story you get the whole picture. I get it after hearing all the facts, 1 year is a bit to lean. Fact is even with the muzzleloader he still would of been shot. The fact is the both were hunting after dark. Would you have a bit more remorse if it was a dad and his 16 year old kid? I think so... BTW I think when you carry a gun in the woods you better have all your facilities in order and know the law. Too often we humans take too much for granted, it could never happen to me, but it does. If it was his 16 year old kid that he shot.. he would have imposed his own lifetime sentence.. a lifetime without his child! I didn't get anywhere in the story that the guy killed was a friend of his.. or just a guy joining in their "poaching" group that evening... I might have missed it though. Doesn't seem to me he had any concern about anyones safety anyway Yes that would be a life long sentence indeed. I think it just says hunting companion.

I took the picture and did all sorts of manipulation to it-can't figure it out.

Yea, what I don't get is the other family was pushing for a harsher sentence. They were hunting partners?????? Must be some other bad blood for another family to push for more jail time?

Want to adopt me?

First-light replied to Sab's topic in Guides and Outfitters
I know of a guy that tries to befriend you, talks up a storm about hunting. Invites you to drive deer on his property on last weekend. Calls himself a guide and charges guys to stay at one of his rentals. He owns hardly any acreage but get permission to hunt on other people, mostly from out-of-town. When your not there he brings over his customers to hunt your property, what a hoot! I met this guy a few years back when we had shot a real big buck and it was hanging from the pole at my camp. I knew right after he left that something wasn't right. My neighbor came by and told me all about him and said stay away. Sab-you live and learn. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I have heard worse stories than yours be thankful you actually got to hunt. Some people show up to hunt to find the guide has left with all your money. -

Bear picts are great! -
I'm quoting myself but have to add that groceries are through the roof also. On top of paying high gas prices the trip to the market is also very expensive. Everybody will need to chip in at camp to lessen the hit to the wallet.
-
Longer trips at camp less frequently though.

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)

cuttin yer own meat?
First-light replied to Pat Rockets's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I used to cut my own but it's so cheap to get it done. Good tips there Pat, I also used a torch to rid the meat of excess hair. Water and bleach no big deal, not going to hurt you one bit. -
That looks like a scene from the Long Island Railroad. The most mismanaged company out there. I watched during the winter two guys off-load a skid of rock salt at the platform. There had to be 7 other guys just watching the whole time. Trains are getting filthy now that they only clean them 1 or twice a week. Cost me 300 bucks to ride that baby every month I'm sure they ticket price will go up again this year. I do feel bad for the folks that work the trains, for the most part they are very nice and have to put up with a lot of crap from the public.
